“ Funny, that. He actually was blind. ”

                   “ Unless you plan to buy, Crichton, I suggest you leave. Quietly. ”

“ What the hell happened between you and Uhura, mate? ”

       She wanted to tell him. So many times, the words had been on the tip of her tongue, ready to lay the truth of what she’d done bare. But every time, she stopped. Some of that was duty -- she’d made a promise to the people she’d called comrades for those long moyens. But some of it... She hated to admit it, but some of it was weakness. She couldn’t bear to see the way he’d look at her when he heard what she’d done. She still believed her actions had been right. But John... his sensibilities were not those of a warrior. Perhaps for the better.

      “ You know there are things I can’t tell you, ”  she said quietly.  “ Please don’t make me lie to you, John. ”  After a long moment of silence, she looked up at him. The ghost of a cold, humorless smile flickered across her lips.  “ I was an assassin. Surely you don’t need much imagination to know what that meant... ”
