Nicole Winters x Jess Mariano 

Nicole wasn’t even fully sure herself how she had found him. She had followed her gut instinct and it had led her to him. She had been trying to convince herself that she didn’t know him, understand him, but she did. The way that Jess talked to her and treated her proved that he knew her too. It was off putting at first, how well he had seemed to know the right thing to say or do when her past came creeping up behind her. He made her feel seen, heard, maybe even safe. Nicole wasn’t one to feel that way very often, she built up walls so high that they towered over her. No one had ever gotten past them, and like water he had began to slip through the cracks. He trickled into her life and she hadn’t fully realized yet how desperately she had needed that. She had proven to herself today that she CARED about him. She took a few slow steps toward him, her gaze subconsciously softening as her eyes met his. She didn’t know the full details of what had led him here, but she did know enough to know that she had needed to find him. Nicole felt it like a burn all over her skin, an itch, she needed to see for herself that he was okay. “I don’t know.” She admitted, “It was the only place that I could think of. The only place where I thought-hoped that you would be. It just didn’t make sene to me for you would be anywhere else but here.” Nicole closed more distance between them, but was careful not to fully invade his personal space right away. 

Woe is me wasn’t really Maddy’s style. She hated thinking that she had to be sad about not being with someone when she could easily get under someone else, she could make her last person jealous, she could focus on herself and become better. There were so many options other than being depressed like she had been in relationships past. Jess wasn’t going to be someone she was going to obsess over, wasn’t going to be someone she was going to get attached to. “I know you'll go and change your mind” She showed nonchalance as she fixed her eyeliner. Head held high she hoped he realized that this just meant that things couldn’t get deeper between the two of them and that things just needed to be casual.

           A NEW FRESH START, that was what Philadelphia offered, a new city and a new life to pave out for herself, but of course in true Fiona fashion she’d had to sample the locals, swiping left until a certain tall, dark and very fucking handsome face popped up on her screen, it was only  a hook-up, and sure she had fun, but it wasn’t like she’d ever have to see him again, right? Wrong!

          Showing up to the Truncheon Books office, she hadn’t expected to come face-to-face with her hook up from the night before, shit shit shit. And to make things worse, she couldn’t even remember his name, was it Jess? Josh? That was the least of her concerns, right now. Typical fuckin’ gallagher luck, she thinks, no poker face as she’s staring at him.

     Stars Hollow was a little ways into town for October, given her family’s farm was a few hours outside on the blooming outskirts of Connecticut. But, for schooling sake, and so she could keep an active, somewhat ‘wholesome’ and...’normal’ life ( whatever that means ) she’s been staying with her Aunt Rachel. It’s nice that everything is practically within walking distance here, she’s always enjoyed that sentiment. Finding herself at Luke’s was ever a familiar affair, the necessity for her regular cup of coffee and waffle to go before class an every day occurrence.  When she gallivants in this morning, however, there stands someone other than Luke mid-register causing October to slow her stride. She tilts her head and smoothly finishes her walk, placing her palms atop the counter. “You’re new.” she begins, knowing it’s an obvious statement. “I will take a large cup of coffee,” her eyes land behind him, into the confines of the kitchen where she sees Luke warily gawking on, causing a light giggle to lift from her lips. “Let me guess, you two are related. And you’re trouble.” 

A wave of emotion had washed over her, arms wrapping around him almost instantly as she felt her own heartbreak seeing the tears in his eyes. There had been so much running through her head since he had left, the idea that she should have stopped him or should have gone with him from the jump. She was one to know just how unreliable parents could be, a part of her almost HOPING she had ben wrong.

That didn’t help subside the guilt now she felt growing, BB knowing well enough that he didn’t belong here, he didn’t deserve to feel as though he wasn’t wanted or important. “I want you,” the words replied lowly, pulling away from the hug to put her hands on each side of his face. Her eyes met his, teeth digging into her bottom lip.

“A good person wouldn’t say that-” she added almost too quickly, her head tilting to the side. It was an adjustment still to be at a new school, surrounded by new faces. Sure, over time she was getting BETTER at change each time she had to take it on, but it still made space in her life to attempt to make friends. Jess didn’t exactly seem like the type she’d become friends with either, off to the side, almost blending in too perfectly. But, the more she got to know him, the more she appreciated his company.
