Does anyone know where I could find the six episodes of the German Sherlock Holmes tv series aired between 1967-1968?
German Johnlock, or The 1968 Copper Beeches
This is about the six-part German TV series of 1967-1968 which is a little treasure trove. For me the last episode is the best, Johnlock-wise.Â
Violet Hunter: “The two of you are regarded as inseparable.” Watson: “True.” Violet Hunter: “I’m really pleased.” Watson: “So am I, for both of us.”
Holmes calls Watson his “Vertrauter” (someone who is very close and familiar and with whom you share almost everything).
But it gets even better. Holmes once promised Watson that he may help himself to the contents of Holmes’s tobacco tin “for life”. To put it another way: they intend to stay together. For life. Until death do part them. How could they be more married than that?Â
To me this may not be the most dramatic or beautiful, not the most adventurous or colourful, but surely the funniest and most warm-hearted Holmes/Watson pairing I know. (And, what is more, they use the informal German “du” throughout, making it very intimate. Which the German dubbing of BBC Sherlock only introduced in the best man scene in TSoT)
