Book Review : Erebus - The Story of a Ship
This is a brilliant book about a small ship that along with her sister ship, Terror, survived the Antarctic only to sink in the Arctic on an expedition to find the North-West Passage between the Atlantic and the Pacific. The book is incredibly well researched and engagingly written and is a maritime mystery that will almost certainly never be solved. For anyone interested in exploration and…
Hmmmm...
In redesigning Erebus (or rather just finalizing his design in the first place, lol) I've got an important choice to make. He's a spidertaur, but...
Eight legs, two arms, treating the torso and lower body as two separate pieces?
Six legs on the spider body, two arms on the torso, for a total of eight total limbs?
Or four legs and four arms, kind of distributing the limbs over the length of the entire body?
He's an anthro spider on top rather than a human, so I think that's less cause to go with the first, but ultimately it's going to need to be whatever looks the least weird, I think. Eresus kind of only does have four legs up to the point that his upper body would be humanoid. Six legs might make sense both for stability, but four legs/four arms kinda positions them closer to where they'd be on the spider. Hmm...

Chibi Erecoda
Erebus gives malacoda an iron rose, and malacoda gives erebus a wither rose.
A sudden headcanon: when he gets flustered (yes, he’s capable of that), its not his face that turns red, but the scars under his eyes and the tips of his tentacles. Check out the art.
I actually planned to draw this scene for Valentines day, but I couldn't wait—so here it is. I really love my design for malacoda I adore it. Btw he has a humanoid form, just like Erebus
Maybe I’ll draw them in a non-chibi style later on-
I’d also like to comment a bit on the designs
Malacoda’s hair is mobile (he can control its movement) and very long; when relaxed, it coils around his tentacles, sometimes making it look like an extension of them.
He also has nine tentacles (like the ghasts in canon), though some got hidden behind his hair while I was drawing him.
Yes, he has legs and can fly—take a closer look. I actually made him shorter than Erebus, but he gains a height advantage precisely because of his ability to fly.
He has the same scars on his body as he does on his face.
And I accidentally drew a crown of thorns on him instead of a regular crown lol. Doesn't look too bad, right?
Erebus has the most fucking badass crown of all the monster kings, as well as magnificent hair (though Malacoda’s is cooler—at least in terms of its properties). ***For some reason, I imagine all the MKs have either long hair or hair that’s been hacked off really unevenly with a sword or something sharp.
Clothing that covers him up almost entirely, so that minimal water touches him when it rains.
I’ve never understood why his teleportation particles are depicted as purple in the books; to me they seem closer to scarlet.
About 10 layers in ibis paint went into his crown...............!!(゜ロ゜ノ)ノ
This is my favorite pairing in the gk999 series (one that I think is very well-supported by canon Lmao), so I plan to draw more art for it.
I’d appreciate a reblog and comments (-.-)・・・・

Thank you for joining Leviathan and the Envious Division. While the blog is under construction here is who we have so far:

Thank you once more for signing in blood 🩸
Hi Jordan! I have questions about Erebus, but please don’t feel obligated to answer any of them if they reveal too much about future plot points.
01. Vampires are often described (especially in more modern portrayals) as possessing an almost supernatural beauty. Is Erebus like that as well? Does he have that kind of otherworldly attractiveness that separates him from humans, witches and wizards?
02. I don’t think he is Regulus, because when Hadrian destroyed Riddle Manor, Erebus mentions in his POV that the “older predator in him appreciated it”, and in the snippet you posted on your blog, he tells Hadrian that, out of boredom, he has always sought ways to interfere in events. If it’s not too spoilery, could you tell us his exact age?
03. In The Vampire Diaries, witches lose their magic when they become vampires. But in Harry Potter canon, magical people who are turned into vampires still retain their magic, they simply lose the right to carry a wand. Was Erebus originally a wizard who still uses magic, or was he human before becoming a vampire? And what events did he participate in before Hadrian and Riddle were born?
04. Does Erebus have a lover? If not is there any possibility that he and Hadrian might have some sort of affair? Because I would love it LMAO
05. Erebus mentions his “children” to keep humans away from the Manor, and when Hadrian first sees him in Knockturn Alley, he is accompanied by other vampires. Does he have his own clan, or has he merely turned a few vampires who occasionally assist him? And are they aware of Hadrian?
And aside from these questions, which, again, you absolutely do not need to answer, would you consider giving us another Erebus snippet? He appears so rarely, yet he made such a impression on me, I’m completely obsessed with him! I adore characters like him, and you write him brilliantly
Hello darling! Sorry about the wait in replying - I've got a lot of things in my inbox and am not the best at staying on top of messages!
To answer your questions:
01. There is a bit of an allure to all vampires, kind of like a minor glamour that attracts, but they're not supernaturally beautiful. Erebus is definitely an attractive man, and the danger he gives off is definitely compelling to people.
02. Erebus is over 400 years old 😉
03. No, Erebus was not a wizard before he was turned. As for events, there's nothing specific I was intending to attribute to him, but he was something of a passing acquaintance of Grindelwald's movement for a time.
04. I don't have plans for him to have a stable lover - more there are a handful he might flit between. And I was flirting with the idea of some ✨tension✨ between him and Hadrian that will absolutely piss Riddle off in the sequel.
05. Erebus has a small coven, which he is the head of. His children are devoted to him, and he often lets them roam freely. They tend to follow him to which country / area he's in, just in case he needs them, but they're not bound to his shadow or anything. And yes, they are tangentially aware of Hadrian, but only in that Erebus is keeping an eye on him for someone else.
As for a snippet, I might not share the one I have, since it's pretty integral to the next chapter - but we will have a moment between him and Riddle!
Erebus finally gets a ref
