Equijubus is the most basal hadrosauroid, suggesting that this group of dinosaurs originated in Asia. It was fairly large at 7 m in length, and weighing around 2.5 t. Fossil remains are associated with grass microfossils, implying that it was likely a grazer. These specimens are some of the oldest known grass fossils, and make Equijubus the oldest dinosaur known to eat grass.

Equijubus is a Hadrosauroid known from Mǎzōng Mountain in Gansu Province, China, specifically the Middle Grey Unit of the Xinminpu Group. It dates back to the Aptian age of the Early Cretaceous, approximately 125 million years ago. It is known from a complete skull with articulated jaws and some skeletal elements. It would have been 7 meters long, 2.5 tonnes in weight, and fairly large for its group. Given its early derived position in Hadrosauroids, it’s likely that this group originated in Asia and migrated out to North America.
