“ not you . ” wednesday spends a moment keeping focus on her task ― she's preparing some sort of trap , one that's meant to merely hold its captive in a confined space rather than harm them . “ it's your family i have issue with . all from hearsay , of course , but i'd rather not fail due to their involvement . ”

once she confirms everything properly set into place , she stands upright and turns to five . “ . . . take no offense . i try not to include my own family or friends as well . if yours is anything like mine , then i can't risk more people coming to look for either of us . ”

"happy un-birthday, five, i'm celebrating your un-birthday with a drink! cheers to you!" he just wanted a reason to drink, and that's probably obvious. the bottle is lifted, and klaus takes a swig. there's no label, and the bottle looks suspicious and old so there's a good chance that whatever he's drinking is a mix of shit he poured into the bottle that will probably kill him before the night is over.

half the bottle is downed at once, and klaus somehow stumbles into a seat with a flourish. "five, were you tall when you were old, or did you stay that size forever?" outside the world may or may not be ending again, and honestly, they've just been through so many apocalypses that at this point, it's a bit boring. "i keep imagining your old self as just you as a bald 13 year old."

Two perpetually quizzical eyebrows climb higher on Klaus's forehead. Stray Commisison bullets and dangerous projectiles of varioius forms (most of them involving fire) sail over the siblings.

"Sure, or maybe youuu reconfigure your master plan here," he rebuts, startled and dismayed by his own surge of courage, "and we get out of this together?"

His fingers curl into ghoulish glowing fists.

blood is not something that Ren is unfamiliar with. neither is injury, really. she sort of thought she'd seen it all, at this point. between constant bruising, twisted ankles, bones sticking out of someone's arm or leg, little Hell bats chewing on her collarbone, teeth sharper than a tungsten needle slicing through her forearm ... yeah, she's dealt with some wild shit.

apparently, though, today is just not her fucking day. then again, who the fuck would say anything different when your weird, timeline-jumping friend (?) showed up on your doorstep covered in blood, not all of which belonged to other people?

christ, Ren needs a drink ...

she's doing her best, okay. the collection of bloody rags and discarded bandages littering her bathroom floor around her and Five is more than enough proof as much. it's just ... she's never dealt with wounds like this, give her a fucking break, please.

there's a moment - only felt in seconds - where klaus' usually dramatic and excited demeanor fades. as if the news is heartbreaking and unbelievable, all at once - and maybe it is. five had a way of seeming larger than life, all of his siblings did. but the last one he would ever imagine dying was five.
