The way Lilith laughs at Nick when he’s all ‘we have defeated your evil plan’ always gets me, because Lilith is at an extreme disadvantage here; she’s bound with her own freaking rib, which makes it impossible to break, she is completely trapped, and Sabrina’s off doing shit before planning to kill her (or at least try to. I really don’t think Lilith had any fear there that any kill attempts would actually work, especially since Sabrina didn’t know who she truly was yet), and she still manages to be genuinely amused by Nick’s arrogance. Like oh foolish little warlock, Sabrina is off doing exactly what she doesn’t want to be doing, and I could have told you if you hadn’t bound me here. Because, she really could; neither Sabrina or Lilith want Sabrina to open the gates of Hell and be Lucifer’s herald, the teamwork that happens in the finale could have happened here instead. But the moment she’s bound and they treat her as their Number One Enemy, Lilith just sat back and let it all happen. They think she was just calmly accepting her fate when really she was calmly accepting theirs.

And yet when she says to Nick that the ultimate sacrifice is suicide meaning Sabrina has to kill herself, there’s a new emotion in her eyes. There’s some kind of worry or fear, which I personally see as the realisation of what Sabrina has to do; she doesn’t know Sabrina’s plan to trick the mandrake in a duel. As far as Lilith knows, she’s just going to try and kill her doubte face-on, which leaves the very real possibility for the Mandrake winning out. We already canonically establish throughout the series, and through interviews with MG and KS, that Lilith has grown very attached to Sabrina without meaning to, so the idea that Sabrina could be killed and replaced by a mandrake version, which would then take Sabrina’s place does, I think, worry her, in many different ways. 

Because I don’t think the worry in her eyes is about the prophecy being fulfilled because when she says straight after ‘You can’t be the Dark Lord at this game’, she just looks resigned and tired, not worried. Which makes me feel the worry is for Sabrina, but she’s only just realising now that she feels that way. But the way she is so tired and resigned when she talks about the Dark Lord winning is heart-breaking because it shows us this has happened time and time again. How many games has Lilith played with him, how many prophecies has she been pushed aside, how often has she tried to stop him doing something only for him to do it anyway?

On a lighter note, Lilith’s face when she says ‘More?’ after Nick finds more details of the prophecy is absolutely hysterical. She’s just like ‘are you fucking kidding me? It’s not bad enough already?’. And nope, it isn’t. And fucking hell, the emotional journey we see Lilith go through in such a short space of time as she hears the prophecy doesn’t talk about Sabrina being his herald or general but his Queen hits me right in the heart. Lilith clearly had already had her suspicions about him trying to nudge her aside, which is why she’s been doing all these bets and machinations all season (with the exception of her time with Adam when she was fully willing to leave it all behind and fuck off for an actual chance at a happy life), but here is the full-on confirmation; she can’t deny it anymore. Lucifer has lied to her the whole time and never intended her to be his Queen. They fell in love with one another thousands of years ago, she has been beside him through all his changes, all his sufferings, she still remembers who he was before he was cursed/bound in his current form, she stayed loyal through all of his abuse (due to being a victim of said abuse and constant gaslighting, admittedly) ...and he was planning to toss her aside the whole time. And at this point she doesn’t know Sabrina is his daughter, so she presumes she’s being tossed aside for a freaking child bride. And she looks absolutely, and understandably, broken by it. 

“Once Sabrina ascends, I’ll....”

She doesn’t even know how to finish this sentence. She literally does not what is going to happen to her, which is a terrifying realisation.  Lucifer is her abuser, and tragic as it is, as an abuse victim, Lilith has come to accept that as her normal day-to-day life. Yes, he takes out his boredom and frustration on her, yes he uses her, yes he punishes her when she does things he doesn’t want to, yes he kills her freaking lovers and turns even her familiar against her, but she has held onto that abuse-victim-narrative where they convince themselves ‘but he still needs me. I’m still important. I have a place. He wouldn’t get so angry about everything if he didn’t love me’ etc. But the pin holding this logic together is the fact that one day she would rule by his side as Queen, the abuse would stop because she’d be worthy and they’d be back to where they were in the beginning. But if Sabrina is becoming Queen, where does that leave Lilith? She genuinely has no idea what will happen to her; tossed aside, cast out,, killed, imprisoned, made a servant of Sabrina, Lucifer’s metaphorical and physical punching bag....she has no idea, and her past experiences make her fear and dread the worst. And you see her trying to hold back the tears of both heart-break and fear. 

Which is why she says ‘we must stop Sabrina before she dooms us all’ because yes, the doom on the mortal realm and everyone in it is different to the doom she’s imagining for herself, but it is still a doom and one she intends to avoid. They’re all on the same page. But the way she screams ‘now’ really reveals just how terrified she is of that outcome, how desperate she is to stop it, even more so than a few witches wanting to stop the apocalypse. She fears something worse than the world ending; she fears Lucifer’s decisions and actions.

And then next time we see Lilith she’s having her little panic jog through the woods with Nick, which makes me laugh because they can both teleport. So it’s the thought of the fact they must have used a tracking spell to find Sabrina and teleported there. But then were in the middle of the woods thinking ‘but where is she?’ and then heard a gun shot and started running together like ‘yep, that’ll be Sabrina’ and just...ran like mortals? I don’t know why but I find it amusing. 

It’s also really astounding that considering all the things we know Lilith is feeling and how much we know she can really violently lash out, that she doesn’t lash out at Sabrina here. There’s bitter resignation to her voice when she says ‘you will sit by his side and rule. As his Queen’,  but that’s it. She doesn’t get angry, she doesn’t walk off and deal with her own shit (which she does need to do ASAP in prep for his arrival), she still stays and explains things to Sabrina even though Nick could easily have done that. I don’t know; I just think it’s yet again an example of how Lilith is much attached to Sabrina than she likes to admit. No one would blame Lilith in that moment for pissing off to get herself together and sort out her own survival plans and prep for Lucifer the moment she realised Sabrina had done the final perversion, but instead she says and explains. 

God, I fucking hate this scene on so many levels, and you’re going to get my rant about why below. This is probably going to be more rant than analysis. Hardcore Sabrina and/or Nick stans probably should skip this one. 

Firstly, the way Sabrina storms in. Not only is this reckless because Sabrina has no idea whether, among other things, ‘Ms Wardwell’ has been hiding how powerful she is. She has no full grasp of any part of the situation, she can’t even be certain she’s right that her teacher was ‘whispering in her ear’ and it wasn’t just unfortunate coincidence, she also knows both from experience and from her family, that if the Dark Lord asks you to do something you don’t get to say no, and she doesn’t even wonder if maybe ‘Ms Wardwell’ had been asked to do this by the Dark Lord, and to give her the same benefit of the doubt she gave herself, Hilda and Ambrose. Nope, she just fucking storms in recklessly. The fact Lilith manages to keep it together and stay calm, and just give a sarcastic ‘come in’ is astounding. 

Now, let’s go into the list of things Sabrina blames Lilith for:

1. Jesse Putnam’s exorcism. Excuse you, Sabrina, but you needed no fucking whispering to get that one done. You were asking everyone about it, you were determined, you even declared if no one would help you from the Church of Night then you’d go to the Catholic Church, you denied Lilith’s help at every turn until she was forced to go directly to the Aunts. That is the one she least fucking whispered over. Sabrina has full culpability over that, because Sabrina was going to do it, no matter what. She stated that herself. So let’s not be shifting the blame now because it suits

2. Resurrecting Tommy Again, Sabrina needed no encouragement here. In fact, Lilith very clearly tells her NOT to do it-- yes, she knows perfectly well Sabrina will do it anyway, but the point is, she is told not to. ‘Ms Wardwell’ tells her it requires her to take a life, she begs her not to do it, Ambrose tells her not to do it, even the Weird Sisters have their qualms and so does Nick, but Sabrina is determined. She needs ‘right a wrong’ by killing Agatha to bring back Tommy, even though Zelda had told her that witches can’t meddle in mortal affairs. She actually ‘steals’ the book from her teacher’s office, she does this in defiance of everyone. So again, no shifting blame when you actively made that decision to do it, Sabrina. 

3. Going to Limbo Again, you made that decision on your own, Sabrina. In fact, she only goes to Lilith as a last resort when no one else would help her. But she’d already come to the conclusion herself. Zelda had told her not to, Hilda told her not to, Ambrose told her not to, they all told her how dangerous it was, how she couldn’t do it, how the right thing was to restore balance and return Tommy to the earth, but nope Sabrina decides she knows best and she’ll get someone to help her. Even if you argue that Lilith makes these situations happen, Sabrina is the one who decides to do it. She makes that choice. She could have chosen to listen to anyone else, but she always listened to Lilith because Lilith told her what she wanted to hear

4. Signing her name in the book of the beast This is the one thing she can accuse Lilith of because she worked her freaking butt off to make that happen. But at the same time,  everyone in your family has signed it, Sabrina, and this wasn’t actually part of the prophecy, that was just getting you on the right path. 

5. Conjuring hellfire Didn’t the Dark Lord tell her to do this one? With the visions he gave her? All Lilith does is tell her how. And again, Sabrina could have decided to find another way to defeat the Thirteen but she goes with the option that is offered because it’s what she wants to do. As Zelda said ‘you did it because you like power’

“I did all those things with you whispering in my ear”

Sabrina is just completely absolving herself of all culpability and responsibility just because it freaking suits her. As listing above, she has to take responsibility: Someone can tell you to shoot someone, but if you do it, that was your choice, just as it’s your choice not to. Sabrina did all these things, not because Lilith was whispering in her ear, but because she wanted to do them. We’ve established many times throughout the series that Sabrina doesn’t do anything if she doesn’t want to do it (The fact she agrees to take the the throne in Part 3 is not because Lucifer’s arguments make sense, because they just don’t, but because she wants the power and he gave the excuse to take it). 

I just hate this accusatory anger where she’s painting herself as the complete innocent with all blame on Lilith. Yes, Lilith is involved, yes Lilith has manipulated things and is working for the Dark Lord, but Sabrina did all those things of her own choice and will and she needs to fucking accept that. 

AND THEN, she doesn’t even let Lilith give her answers or explanations. Which is just stupid. Even if she lied, even if Sabrina concluded she was lying, you STILL HAVE TO HEAR HER OUT TO SEE IF THINGS MAKE SENSE. And Lilith does try to answer her, but Sabrina doesn’t give her a chance because she’s too empowered by her own sense of self-entitlement and self-righteousness. 

“Who’s bidding are you doing? My Father’s? The Dark Lord’s? Your own?” “Don’t be ridic-”

Lilith is cut off here, which is a stupid point to cut her off at. She looks so indignant at the thought of anyone thinking this ‘hail Sabrina’ shit was her idea. She stays silent until Sabrina suggests she’s doing it all at her own behest, so the fact that’s where she protests means she is following someone’s instructions, and if Sabrina had any sense in this moment, she would want to hear her out. 

But no, this is where Lilith gets bound. And considering Nick is also doing the Dark Lord’s bidding and he cuts Lilith off before she could answer is very interesting timing and does make you wonder. 

“is that?” “The rib you were using to control the scarecrow who tried to kill me? Why, yes, it is”

The one accusation that is solid in this whole conversation; yes, Lilith did send a monster to try and kill Sabrina. And that is why I would understand Sabrina and Nick using the rib to bind Lilith’s powers so she couldn’t use them against them, or binding her so she couldn’t harm them. However, I do not understand or accept binding a woman so she cannot move or do anything unless a man lets her. Nick takes away her entire autonomy, what he does to Lilith is no different to what Blackwood did to Zelda, it’s just of a different variety. And the fact Sabrina, Little-Miss-I-Know-What’s-Right, thinks this is okay is shocking and abhorrent. 

No woman, no matter who she is, should have her autonomy taken away by a man, her entire body controlled and under the control of a man, with no freedom to escape or defend herself. Like, no one should think that’s okay. And the fact the writers/director have Nick use the exact same body language with Lilith in the later scene as they have Lucifer use on Lilith in the finale shows that even they are showing the parallels and therefore that it’s not meant to be considered a good thing. We’re meant to feel uncomfortable...and yet I know there are people out there who support it. Which gives me the fucking wig to say the least.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about”

Lilith looks so tired here, like I don’t care I don’t know, all I was planning was to get rid of you so I could punish the Dark Lord and I wouldn’t have to deal with any of this shit anymore. I think it’s entirely possible Lilith is fed up of the accusations being thrown at her, but considering how she is often viewed by a lot of the world and the stories written about her, she’s probably very used to being accused of shit and having blame thrown on her. Doesn’t mean she’s not fucking tired of it though. 

“So you could control it and kill me”

No, no Sabrina you’re only half-right. Lilith had no interest in controlling the mandrake, just in killing you. And if you’d stop jumping the gun and interrupting her and asking questions without letting her fucking answer, maybe you’d find that out. 

“I don’t know if it even exists. I haven’t seen it, I swear”

I love Lilith’s honesty here, because it’s such a frank and tired honesty. She has no fucking need to lie because she’s lost Sabrina’s trust and she really doesn’t care about the Dark Lord’s plan for her, but she looks so increasingly annoyed, because it doesn’t matter what Lilith fucking says, Sabrina has decided not to believe her, instead of calming down, looking at the evidence, and considering everything to come to the right conclusion. I mean if she hadn’t dimissed Lilith entirely here, maybe she wouldn’t have gone killing her mandrake self and brought about the bloody prophecy, just saying. 

“Keep her bound until I come back”

Oh lovely Sabrina. Just leave a woman at the entire mercy of a man. Nick could do whatever the fuck he liked while you were gone and Lilith wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, and anyone can see how much Nick is already really enjoying doing this binding spell. I’m sorry, it’s just...why would someone who believes in being ‘right’ and ‘not evil’ and is all about women’s rights and defending those who get hurt, be happy to have a woman in this situation. Especially when she hasn’t even let her explain the whole story. But then, we see how much Sabrina doesn’t note what Zelda goes through with Blackwood and in the tie-in novels she actually throws Zelda’s suffering in her face, so there we go. 

Lilith, up until this moment, has looked mostly tense, aggravated, annoyed, but the moment Sabrina says she’s leaving and Nick is to stay here and ‘keep her bound’, we see actual fear flash in Lilith eye’s and then she asks, worriedly, ‘where are you going?’

 I have gone in depth on this moment before with images and GIFs for references, so this will only be brief, but Lilith is genuinely afraid to be left alone with her autonomy entirely taken into the hands of a man. And that’s not surprising considering her experiences with the False God, with First Adam, with the Dark Lord...Lilith has been abused by men before, been powerless before, and the idea of being left bound, trapped and powerless at the hands of a man here, is making her afraid. And we could even consider that as Eve had the rib inside her from Adam so Adam probably had the same power over Eve that Nick now has over Lilith....that makes things even worse, because Lilith no doubt saw what Eve suffered. Like this is triggering so much fear and past experiences in Lilith and Sabrina, not only isn’t noticing this, she’s totally happy to leave her. 

“I’m going to find and kill my double. And then I’ll be back to kill you”

Oh ffs, fuck off. This moment drives me so mad. Because, for one, as far as she knows ‘Ms Wardwell’ is just a witch which means she’s a person/human of sorts, and therefore killing her is murder. Outright fucking murder. The thing her family are always telling her to be careful about, because once you do it you can’t take it back. And even if we reason murder has been normalised when it’s for the ‘right reasons’, Sabrina has always acted as if she’s better than that. Like no, that’s wrong. ‘All life is precious’ she told Prudence, adding that even the life of someone who tried to kill her is precious and worth saving and what not. Yet, here, oh no, totally okay to kill someone. The life of Sabrina’s teacher is apparently not precious at all now it suits her to think otherwise. Such hypocrisy and double-standards drives me mad, especially when it’s delivered with such fucking arrogance. Admittedly, Kiernan does it brilliantly. 

“Sabrina, wait-”

Lilith tries to get her not to leave, and by the way she says it, it looks like she was trying to tell her something, quite possibly that killing the mandrake will fulfils the prophecy (after all, Lilith no more wanted it to happen than Sabrina did. She just resigns herself to it after Sabrina leaves...until she finds out she won’t be Queen haha), but nope she’s cut off again by Nick. What is the point of confronting someone if you don’t hear what they have to say??

“What does it mean, Ms Wardwell?” The fact that Sabrina just always presumes her teacher will have all the answers makes me laugh, because it shows what an impression Lilith has successfully made on her. Like, when in doubt, go to ‘Ms Wardwell’. Like this is a really obscure fucking thing they found in the mines, but Sabrina has no doubt that her apparent teacher will have all the answers. And she does.

“This implies that you’re some kind of Herald of Hell”

I love the fact that Lilith is huh, it seems to be this, when she knows perfectly well that it is, because the Dark Lord himself has told her that he intended Sabrina to be her Herald of Hell, and Lilith lost a bet in trying to take the position for herself. And you actually see Lilith’s eyes flash at the image, because it’s visual confirmation that yep, he really does fucking intend it to happen, and always had done. I mean the mosaic confirms he’s had plans for Sabrina long before he let Lilith in on them, which would, rightfully, piss her off.

Also the way Lilith describes the apocalypse in a ‘well duh’ way when Sabrina asks. Like ‘the earth in flames, the tribes of human and witchkind, enslaved by the hordes of Hell, with the Dark Lord presiding over it all’. She’s just like ‘what other definition of an apocalypse would there be?’. But it’s so revealing that Lilith has known all along what the Dark Lord’s attitude was, not only to humanity, but to his witches too; he intends to enslave the very people who worship and serve him, rather than rewarding them, which is usually how this sort of thing is supposed to work. But I think it’s interesting that when Lilith is Queen she doesn’t have any apocalypse plans and no more let’s Hell go beyond it’s boundaries than Sabrina does. Lucifer goes on about the balance in Part 3 in order to convince Sabrina to take the crown, but Lilith is someone is shown to actively care more about the balance than him or anyone else in Hell. Lilith wants to rule, not destroy, and that’s a very important difference. 

Nick, however isn’t so convinced, and is all ‘what makes you such an expert?’, and I love that we cut to the Adam Creature while Lilith replies, because he serves as a visual reminder that Lilith is an expert because she comes from Hell herself, but it also sort of implies Lilith really wants to fucking smack Nick at that point for his attitude. The temptation to kill them both in that flicker of a moment. 

Also she says she studied with Nostradamus, and I do wonder if that’s that ‘truth hidden in a lie’ and if Lilith did indeed hang out with Nostradamus, as we’ve seen she’s someone who can blur the lines between the mortal and infernal realms when she wants to, and considering her own origins it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for her to have been hanging out with someone who was skilled in prophecies. Lilith has been shown to be someone well-read and intelligent, and also has foresight; how better to get ahead of everyone than to learn how to read prophecies? But also, saying this means she’s telling them how old ‘Mary Wardwell’ is. He lived in the 1500s which means she’s meant to be a couple of centuries older than the Aunts (Her age is also another confirmation that the reason Dezmelda, who is only a 100 years old than the aunts and a 100 years younger at least than Lilith!Mary’s fake age, has aged so much because she left the coven and the Dark Lord, and became a hedge witch). 

“The end times is usually preceded by the gates of Hell opening”

Usually preceded. Usually. How many end times have you seen Lilith? How many have there been that we don’t know about? I think this is why later on she’s like ‘I don’t care if the world ends; I’ll survive either way’, because she’s been through them enough times, and she also knows they either fail to happen or they don’t last long. Maybe it’s like ‘oh Lucifer wants an apocalypse. Must be Tuesday’ kind of vibe. 

“Why me?” “You’re special, aren’t you?”

Oh the implied bitterness in this line. Like, it has been implied constantly to Lilith by both circumstance and the Dark Lord himself that Sabrina is unique, important, special, and she is clearly so fucking tired of it. Like yes you’re special, I had to come here and pretend to be a high school teacher and raise a bunch of dead witches because it was so important you sign a book. I had to stay at a high school to keep you doing what you’re meant to be doing because you’re so special. Adam had to be killed and I forced to eat him to teach me a lesson about how special you are and how my focus should be all on you. I am being pushed aside entirely because you’re just so fucking special. 

“Half-witch, half-mortal, representing the two tribes to be tyrannised”

Lilith was so close here to blowing the whole thing wide open about the real reason Sabrina is so important and why she exists in the first place. Like yes, she is half-mortal, which means she represents one ‘tribe’, and since she signed the book she is ‘half-witch’ representing that side too, but what she actually is, blood-wise, is half-Lucifer. Like she’s half hell-celestial, and I think that’s what the real key part of bringing about the apocalypse was. I mean, she’s probably not the first half-mortal witch to be born, just the first where they actually got married. And it would be easier enough to make such a thing happen, so why would that be so powerful to bring about the apocalypse...no it has to be something more. She’s half mortal and half hell. Lilith was so close. But she had no reason to think ‘hang on I think you’re Lucifer’s kid’. 

But oh god when Sabrina says ‘this would explain my new powers’, the way Lilith is just like ‘I’m sorry what?’ and blinks innocently but with such fucking tension when she asks ‘new powers?’, and you can tell she’s already imagining a dozen things, like what the fuck has the Dark Lord decided to gift you with now, and will it effect me?

‘Resurrection, healing, control over the weather, I’m not sure I can be killed’

Lilith nods at all of these like fan-fucking-tastic, just giving you huge ass powers the rest of us have to work at gradually, fine, absolutely fine, and then it’s the last one she’s like ‘oh marvellous. Can’t even fucking go ahead with my plan now, can I?’ and she tries to hide it so much  but her tension and irritation is so palpable...except to Sabrina who is apparently too focused on her own problems to notice how annoyed Lilith is, and how much she is currently recalibrating her original plan at hyper speed, 

What Lilith says; How fascinating What she means: Well isn’t that spit on your neck kick in the crotch fantastic?

She does manage to recover pretty quickly though. 

" it would seem that the Herald of Hell would have to wield a certain amount of power”

But oh god the way she says this, it’s like ‘yes, I accept you would need some powers to be the Herald (powers I already have, but never mind) but he did not need to go so fucking overboard with it’. Like, Lilith is just getting knock after Sabrina-related knock from the Dark Lord and she just looks like she’s on her last nerve over it. She’s kept calm and accepting for four months but now she is just so fucking done. 

“No way am I doing it”

I wish Lilith had realised her answer was right there. She could have teamed up with Sabrina there and then, been honest and done a pair-up against the Dark Lord and stopped so much from  happening, but as I said on another post, Lilith is as much a victim of society as any other woman in being subconsciously taught to treat other women as a threat rather than an ally, and her desire to punish the Dark Lord seems to outweigh, at the moment, her desire to team up with Sabrina and stop the prophecy. And at this point she does still think she’s in with a chance of getting her crown, so she’s not yet so willing to go completely against him. 

Also, you can tell she loves how much that a legitimate answer to Sabrina’s query is one that also helps her; you need the powers to be the herald, if you don’t want to be the herald, rid yourself of the powers. Which conveniently means Lilith can have her killed as planned. But she barely holds back at a smile at how everything just came together so neatly and so quickly. Like, ah problem raised, problem tackled, back on schedule. I mean she literally smiles through her words as she says ‘rendering you essentially mortal’, because someone essentially mortal is going to be so much easier for the Adam Creature to deal with. Lilith is back in Confidence Town at that point....and then Nick irritates her with his questions again. She really does look at him like ‘why are you even here?’.

But I do love her come back like ‘erm, excuse me’ when she says “don’t you mean half of who she is?” which I think she takes extra joy in saying because Sabrina is always saying how important her mortal side his, how important her mortal friends are and Lilith knows first hand how difficult it was to get her to leave that behind in any capacity, so she’s like ‘well can’t say a witch is all she is when she goes on about the mortal stuff’. Also, I think it’s interesting that she says this and then in the next episode she says of herself ‘not only a witch’, as it’s another parallel between her and Sabrina, that neither of them are ‘just’ a witch, they’re both something more complicated. 

I also love that Lilith doesn’t say anything else until not only has Nick left the room, but closed the door behind him too. She had literally no interest in dealing with him; things go much more smoothly with her manipulations when it’s just her and Sabrina. As it does the moment he leaves, when she’s able to go back into full-on concerned teacher vibe and be all ‘you must keep me abreast won’t you?’ and then adds, ‘and do look into the mandrake spell, it could be just the ticket’ in such a bright way, like don’t like Nick’s negative vibes effect your decision. After all, I have all the answers don’t I, I’m older, more experienced and I’m saying the mandrake spell could be a good thing. Ignore mr-storms-out. 

And then her whole smiling expression immediately falls the moment Sabrina leaves the room. We get back to genuine Lilith. And what’s the first thing she does? Calls Adam to get things back on track. And as she calls for him, she is rubbing her fingers over the enchanted engagement ring she gave to Adam 2.0, she rubs her fingertips over it the way you do when you’re thinking about someone the jewellery is connected to. Like a widow remembering her lost husband, and it just reminds her that the entire reason she’s doing this, the reasons she created the Creature, the reason she’s attacking Sabrina, is all an attempt to avenge Adam 2.0′s murder. 

Her whole instructions of ‘follow her. discreetly. and once she’s vulnerable and alone; kill her’ is given so psychotically though, with this soft, almost gentle voice, and this equally gentle smile, as if she’s telling someone to prepare a birthday surprise, but instead it’s a murder. Also, the fact she says ‘once she’s vulnerable’, shows how well Lilith knows Sabrina. She knows that no matter what Nick says, the girl’s desire to not be a pawn and to stop the apocalypse and not be ‘evil’ means she will do the mandrake spell and will make herself vulnerable. Lilith knows exactly what Sabrina is planning to do. 

But the way Lilith’s eyes flicker away after she gives the instruction, the flicker of thought of something else. Perhaps briefly wondering whether this will succeed before the Dark Lord notices, perhaps acknowledging that this won’t bring Adam 2.0 back, perhaps wondering if it’s going to be a satisfying as she hopes. 

But oh my god the way she stretches out her hand over the candle, feeling the pain of the heat on her fingertips, perhaps in an attempt to feel something, to distract herself from the emotional pain she feels over Adam 2.0 (physical pain would be much easier for her to deal with, after all) and then argh her face is so sad. Lilith is so fucking sad. She even looks like there might be a few tears. She is still in the major throes of grief, she is still so upset about Adam 2.0 and we’re being told, by this shot and her expression, that everything she is doing right now, for good or for bad, is a product of that grief. 

After Lilith ‘births’ the creature in the bath tub, we see her waiting patiently in her chair, whiskey in hand, looking, oddly, like the ‘traditional’ image of the Father outside the birthing room waiting for the child to be born. So after the ‘labour’ scene we just had Lilith in, we now have her in this more paternal position, as Lilith has created this creature herself, she is, essentially, both Father and Mother even though Mr Dumbass Mortal technically Fathered it with his ‘volunteering’ of his entire supply of blood. 

And as the creature comes into view, the movements, the sounds of his steps, are all very reminiscent of the whole Frankenstein’s Monster deal, letting us know immediately that this creature is not exactly fully formed or eloquent. Lilith herself calls him ‘my rough beast’, which while that can also mean something sexual and can also refer to him being rough in his behaviour-- violent and all about physicality- it could also be rough, as in a rough draft. Lilith has not gone into detailed work with this birth. When you consider Batibat who, while horrendous, is clearly fully formed and eloquent, this thing is definitely ‘in the rough’ as it were. 

But then Lilith proceeds to call him her Beautiful Monster, which while, yes, is also a song title, shows us how Lilith views him, much as Frankenstein viewed his Monster. The creature there should never have been created, he can’t communicate, there are struggles, he is seen as an abomination and horror in most eyes, but for Frankenstein he is his ‘beautiful creation’. It’s a possessive statement, but it’s also showing the monster in question being seen through the eyes of a Mother and/or the eyes of someone who sees the beauty of what he represents, what he’ll do for her. 

The creature immediately goes to his knees before Lilith and we see her instant flicker of a smile at that. This is undoubtedly how she imagines Hell eventually being with her, with all subjects bowing to her as Queen, and this is a flicker of that to come, her promised future with Lucifer, as she then believes. 

She tells the Creature she’s his Mother and then asks if he loves her, to which he immediately nods. There’s no question here or hesitation; he does love her. Instantly. Now, I don’t know whether this is how all her ‘children’ are when she has them (and that’s why Batibat was so angry at being abandoned by her and left to rot inside the configuration), or she has created this particular monster to love her, because she is fixating on that emotion of late (her tarnished, broken love of Lucifer, her pure love of Adam followed by a broken heart, what she perceives to be Lucifer’s love for Sabrina, etc) but either way she uses the creature’s love for her in a very negative. But also, it’s a way that is revealing of her own experiences.

When he nods yes to her question, she tells him ‘Then you’ll do what I tell you to do’ because, with the exception of her her brief time with Adam 2.0, that’s what love has always been to Lilith. In the Garden she and Adam 1.0 were supposed to love each other, were created to be man and wife in paradise, and she was told that she must do as Adam tells her to do, she was also expected to love the False God but also expected to do as the False God told her, then she has her love affair with Lucifer and then eventually he orders her to do what he tells her, and uses the argument of ‘if you love me, then you’ll do this for me’. Lilith has very negative experiences with love, we know this, but one of the specific negative experiences, is that she has learned love is used to control you. So that’s what she does here; she immediately emotionally manipulates her child-monster. She even grabs the monster’s chin and lifts it in the same way we see Lucifer do with her in the Part 2 finale, confirming that she is mimicking the behaviour she herself has consistently experienced. Which is how abuse cycles typically work. 

“And since I made you from my rib, I believe I’ll call you Adam”

This is the reasoning she gives for naming him, but it’s odd that she chose to use her rib at all when she could probably have used anything. Was it the rib with the pure purpose of being able to have a genuine reason to call him Adam? And is it more to remind her of Adam 2.0 or Adam 1.0. The Creature can remind her of Adam 2.0 with this name, remind her of why she created him in the first place, remind her of his purpose, of her anger and grief and the vengeance she’s seeking, it also means she still gets to call out his name, allowing for a little subconscious and subtle denial of the absence of Adam 2.0 in the cottage. 

Okay, the ‘birthing’ scene. First off, the runes scrawled in blood on the wall are all runes related to life and power etc, so I just really enjoy when this show, even though it’s fantasy, use real life magic and ritual information and weave it into their own mythology. I’ve said before about how Pagans and practitioners do work on the show, and I think it’s moments like these when you can most see their influence. 

Also can we appreciate not only all the tealight candles that Lilith has lit for this spell/ritual, but also the fact Mary’s bathroom has lots of little drawers and even a wee ornate table with a lamp on. I think we, as a show, don’t focus very much on the fact that Mary clearly has a sense of style, both in her house (as we clearly see from our time in the cottage) and a real sense of fashion (as we see from the clothes Lilith takes out of her wardrobe), and the tragedy is, despite the clothes she has, she herself only ever seems to have the confidence to wear the things that cover her up the most and hide her shape. My dark thoughts take this, and the fact she was a virgin, and wonder if her lack of sexual intimacy and covering her shape up and not letting her hair down literally and metaphorically, is more to do with past experiences, but I digress. Back to the scene

This is very obviously meant to be a very blatant parallel to a real, ordinary, mortal birth. The noises we hear, which are the sounds of Lilith rummaging around in her own body in order to pull out a rib, are very similar to the sounds of a baby being birthed. Apologies, if you’re now all hearing the slimy sound in your head. Also the blood everywhere, admittedly purposefully put there by Lilith, is a parallel to the blood and erm, fluids, everywhere in a birthing room. We’re being told very clearly that Lilith isn’t just creating this monster, she’s birthing it. The fact she’s also on her knees, legs apart, bent over the bathtub, is as close as they can get her to a literal birthing position that makes sense, giving that she’s not physically giving birth. You don’t have to work very hard to spot all the parallels in this scene. Her cries of pain as she pulls at the rib are also alike to a woman crying out during labour the final yell as it comes out, the bloodied hands holding the rib are like the hands holding the bloodied baby. And again, we have the bath tub which is a common place for giving birth (sometimes accidentally in a literal bath and not a birthing one), and then when she places the rib into the chest of the monster, we hear the heartbeat, the first thuds of a heartbeat, just as you’d hear the heartbeat and cries of a newborn baby.

This is very clearly a birth. And, as we know she’s the Mother of Demons, and therefore has birthed other demonic children (Batibat included within the show mythology), we’re being shown here that that hasn’t been easy. She hasn’t ever carried a child in her womb, no, but that doesn’t mean she’s been able to create her children easily, that it hasn’t been less painful. We’re also seeing that she has to give something to birth these demons, int this case it’s a physical piece of herself; her rib, but I imagine what she can give can vary in nature and in size. It takes from her, regardless, so I imagine, it’s not something she does lightly or frequently (in her real life mythology, she’s considered a Queen and Mother of Demons, because yes she mothered many, but then they had their own demonic children, so by generational ancestry she’s the ‘mother’ of thousands and thousands, rather than literally having them herself, so I imagine it’s the same in CAOS considering we haven’t had her children popping up left right and centre). It also requires a ‘Father’, or at least a second parent (whether it has to be a man is left open to interpretation, considering actual sex isn’t required) and they in turn have to give something. With mortals, obviously the only thing they can give of any power is their life force-- in this case, given via blood. But I imagine if other demons and magical creatures are the Fathers, they could ‘contribute’ with the same variety Lilith can. 

The scene literally starts with her vomiting, and we get the vibe that she has been vomiting for a while and this is coming to the end of it. There’s no score initially, meaning all we hear is her retching, and the lack of score just makes the scene feel as raw as Lilith’s emotions, and it’s only when she starts expressing her feelings aloud for us that the music properly cuts in.

But the fact is we have seen Lilith ‘feast on male flesh’ twice in the series already and we’ve also see her proclaim it proudly and use it as a threat (towards Blackwood). This is not something Lilith dislikes doing, and the fact she does it infrequently and refers to it as ‘feasting’ suggests she views a male flesh buffet as being a treat, it’s something she indulges in, it’s not her regular run-of-the-mill meal. And, though I hate to say it, before she knew the steak was made of Adam, she stated how delicious it was, enough for her to think Adam was an very talented chef for serving that meal. She liked the taste, Lilith truly enjoys this particular feast. The fact that she is now vomiting it all back up, that the thing she openly admitted tasted delicious is now so vile to her she is bringing it all back up, really tells you all you need to know not just about how intensely she felt about Adam, but also about how horrific this punishment was for her. The Dark Lord hasn’t just made her suffer, he hasn’t just upset, he hasn’t just broken her heart, he has made her physically sick. And that is something visceral, guttural and primal in it’s emotion.  

It’s just so heartbreaking to watch that moment, the way she throws up, and when she’s done, collapsing into her own hand. She looks absolutely brokenhearted and in that moment where she’s leaning on the toilet, crying while she covers her eyes with her hand, she looks so small, so hurt, so fragile and so utterly human. She looks so human in that moment. She could easily be the real Mary Wardwell right there if you’d just tuned in. She felt a positive human emotion in her relationship with Adam and now she is feeling a negative human emotion in her loss of him; she is feeling pure, unadulterated grief, and you can just see it’s that kind of grief where you keep going over in your head what you could have done differently to avoid it. This was not a natural death, obviously, and we also know Lilith haa the power to bring back the dead (as she did Mary), the fact she can’t with Adam suggests the Dark Lord’s killing of him, taking of his soul, perhaps, has put him far beyond her reach, meaning it’s a complete death for her. This is not a death that can be undone or fixed, it’s not even a death where she can see the soul herself, it is a permanent, complete death, done with, and it’s that that she’s grieving for as well, I think; the absoluteness of it.

She is genuinely crying here. It’s like a human cry. And I say that specifically, because up till now, we’ve mostly only ever seen Lilith behave outside of the normal human realm of emotion. She reacts differently to things (like how she’s bewildered by Adam’s kindness or how she showed no sympathy for Daniel Webster’s grief; it’s all typically different to how humans react to certain things) but here she is reacting just as any human would. She is crying, she is grieving, she is in physical pain from that grief at a loss of someone she loved; there is nothing more human than that. I mean, you would never see Lucifer have this emotion, or the Plague Kings, or even Caliban etc. But you could see Zelda reacting this way, Hilda, Sabrina etc, because they’re human (well witch-human, which is slightly different if the 13 month of pregnancy is any indication. But the point still stands). 

“I don’t understand...I don’t understand...” When she’s muttering this and trying to find a reason why Adam died, that desperation to find logic and reason in a tragedy is also so tremendously human. I think, honestly, this i why this scene hurts so much; it’s not just the loss and suffering and grief, it’s the fact we’re seeing Lilith be entirely without defence, we’re seeing the human part of her entirely, without cover. 

“How did the Dark Lord discover us?”

Discover us. She is referred to her and Adam as an us. There’s something so tragically romantic and affectionate in that. It’s not ‘how did he discover my mortal play thing?’ it’s not ‘how did he discover adam?’ it’s not even ‘how did he discover i didn’t kill him?’, it’s ‘how did he discover us?’. She is identifying her and Adam as unit, an official couple. It wasn’t Adam that was discovered, it was the both of them. They were happy, they were leaving for Tibet and they were discovered. Even though he’s dead, she’s still speaking about him through couple-language and that’s just heartbreaking. Added to the way she holds the ring and repeats that it should have hidden him....she calls herself a grieving widow in the next episode, and you can’t deny this is exactly how she sounds in this moment. The fact she’s wearing black like a funeral outfit only adds to the effect.

The only moment her sadness disappears from her expression is when she realises what happened and she looks at Stolas. And you can see how it doesn’t take her long to get to that conclusion and you know how certain she is that she’s right, and it’s the kind of certainty that comes from knowing betrayal. Lilith has known disloyalty and betrayal so much that she knows she’s right when she looks to her familiar as the culprit. 

And it’s while she’s confronting Stolas that we cut to a bird’s eye view shot (interesting pun of a choice, perhaps) and we see how Lilith is sat. She is just on the floor, in the corner, with her legs just out. There’s none of her usual grace, elegance, sensuality, sexuality, none of it. We’ve only ever seen Lilith sit the same way she stands and walks; with purpose, everything in place, utter sensual perfection, always on, never wavering....but here there’s none of that, all of that glamorous air she maintains is gone. She is utterly vulnerable and broken on the floor, with no care for how she looks. Again, it emphasises that look of humanity in her. 

“You’ve been reporting back to the Dark Lord ever since he brought you back to life, haven’t you?”

This is a really horrible thing for Lilith to realise. Her familiar, the one she has called her trusted companion, who has been with her since the very beginning and (according to the passion play) even before she met the Dark Lord himself, has chosen the Dark Lord over her. He decided loyalty to him was more important than Lilith’s happiness. It’s the ultimate betrayal; she knows Lucifer pulls some serious shit, but Stolas is meant to be someone she can rely on, someone who is loyal to her no matter what (familiars are bound to their witches, after all) and yet he is the one who brought about this utter heartbreak. And, by the way he stands on the ledge and replies to her, we presume he feels justified in his actions, that he wasn’t forthcoming with any apology. She has discovered that not only does the Dark Lord not care what she wants and decides things for her, but so does her familiar. Even her own familiar doesn’t honour her or her wishes. This is her oldest friend, they’ve been through highs and lows together, they’ve presumably fallen out and made up (I sometimes wonder if killing him has been as much a pattern as Zelda killing Hilda was) and yet when the cards were down, he chose her abuser over her, and prompted the killing of the person she loved....and then doesn’t even have remorse over it. 

It’s another loss and I think that shows when she screams and causes him to burn to ash (which, side not, is an extreme display of power. So much so that in the Part 2 trailer, they edited that moment to mislead us into thinking Sabrina made it happen as they say ‘she keeps getting stronger’ so even the writers and editors know that that is as bad ass as it’s gotten so far in the show. That moment does remind us just how freaking awesomely powerful Lilith is) and she cries again. No, actually, it’s more a wail. Because in that moment of destroying Stolas permanently, with no chance of resurrection, it’s confirmation that she has lost both Adam and Stolas in one foul swoop. It’s two deaths (though Stolas’ is more death by betrayal than by his literal death). She thought she was surrounded by people who cared about her, she probably felt her life was very full and supportive, and now suddenly there’s nothing; she’s lost the person she loved and she’s lost her oldest friend, all in the space of an hour basically. 

And then after that expulsion of loud, raw grief, Lilith turns to her natural instinct; plotting. She rallies herself, she takes strength in a plan, and I think it’s so interesting that her plan isn’t ‘kill the Dark Lord’ it isn’t even ‘Lead a coup’, it’s a plan to make him feel the pain she feels, because to Lilith, right now, that’s the worst thing you can have happen to you. She is feeling such grief and agony she can’t imagine anything worse to suffer, to feel what she’s feeling would be worse for the Dark Lord than death (though as I said above, I doubt Lucifer can feel this sort of raw emotion, as he was never human). 

“But the Dark Lord doesn’t know all. He’s not omniscient. He’s not omnipotent. Which means...he won’t see what’s coming next”

Our first hint/foreshadowy reminder that Lilith knows the Dark Lord’s weaknesses. Everyone else in the show refers to him as their God, they speak of him as knowing everything, that he’s everywhere, that he answers everyone, that you can’t hide from him etc. But we see hear that Lilith knows better, that Lilith knows he can’t see everything and that he can only be in one place at a time. She has been with him since his fall and she knows both his weaknesses and limitations. She’s able to plan around that. 

When she decides to wear Adam’s ring, not only is this her making a conscious decision not to forget him but to keep him in her mind (and her heart?), but you also see her consciously decide which finger to put it on. She could have put it on her right hand, or on her middle finger of her left hand, but she actively picks the ring finger of her left hand. The wedding finger. Lilith knows what this means, and as I said, she calls herself a widow in the next episode, and here Lilith is consciously, purposefully and willingly choosing that designation for herself. This ties into what I need to write about on a bigger post, about how she was created in the Garden and her core being in those early days, has an effect on her choices and reactions even today, because she was a wife in the very beginning, that’s how she started out, so there’s a sense of coming full circle on her own terms here, that in the Garden she was forced to be a wife, but here she’s choosing to be one, because this Adam earned it, he earned her love and mutual respect, while the first Adam didn’t. 

“He took away the one thing I loved. Now I’ll do the same to him”

So when Adam 2.0 and Lilith are walking through the woods, it’s no freaking coincidence that the settling looks so idyllic, so lush and green, one could say it looks like Eden. She is essentially in a garden, a wild place (something that is considered home/sacred to Lilith in her mythology. If you want her to feel welcome where you live, make sure to keep at least a part of your garden wild), the sort of place not only was she created in, but first lived in, her first official home, and she’s walking with a man called Adam. We’re seeing here how Eden should have been, with Adam considering her equal, treating her with respect, walking side-by-side, happy, content and peaceful. It’s the biggest What-Could-Have-Been. 

Now, two interesting extra points about our first shot of this scene; the first is that Lilith has her arm linked through Adam’s. Not only does this mean they are strolling side by side as equals and also proves it’s a nice romantic stroll, but it also shows Lilith’s trust in him. Her arm is linked through his not the other way around, Adam is leading her, she is letting him lead her. She feels enough faith and trust and love for him to feel comfortable for what would be a small allowance for most people, but is a big thing for Lilith.

The second thing I want to point out is that she is wearing trousers. This is the first and only time we ever see Lilith wearing trousers. I have made a longer, more detailed post about this in the past, so I won’t go too deeply into it again, but I just want to point out how significant this is. Lilith, who always uses her attractiveness and her sexuality to manipulate situations to her best advantage, is wearing trousers. And though she is very stylish, she’s actually entirely covered, she’s dressed for fashion not for manipulation. Even her hands are covered, which they never are, her red nails are always visible, but she has gloves on, she’s wearing a belt, a jacket that, while a great cut, is not about showing off ‘assets’. And women’s trousers were, originally, seen as a symbol of freedom and independence. Desexualising women’s style and allowing them to do things men do, to no longer be held back by cumbersome dresses. Lilith, here is not only feeling free and independent, but also feeling no need to manipulate anything, she’s not working an angle, she’s not on edge or on guard, she is totally relaxed and natural and being herself. And herself likes the freedom of a pair of trousers. 

It does, on closer inspection, appear to be a bodysuit, but the details of the upper are covered by the jacket, as, like I said, she’s dressed for fashionable comfort, rather than sexual-men-are-idiots manipulation. That’s such a huge deal. 

“Mm, Adam. It’s so good to be away from that dreary little town”

Okay, first off, the way she says ‘mm Adam’ is so freaking content. The woman is STROLLING, this woman who is tense all the time, has to work all the time, manipulate all the time, be on the defence all the time, is strolling and smiling and going ‘Mm, Adam’. That says a lot which my little ole emotions can’t handle. And then there’s her saying how good it is to be away from Greendale. Because everything in Greendale reminds her of what she has to do, what she’s there fore. Everything in Greendale is to do with Lucifer and Sabrina, but out here, in the woods, out of the two, with Adam, it’s all about her, no one else. And the fact Adam has not just taken her for a day out, but out of the town, is all foreshadowing of his offer to take her much further, to take her far away from everything that is making her unhappy, even if she won’t openly admit it yet. 

Also when she told Sabrina she was having a personal day, she was wearing a purple dress. Did Lilith go to work, come home and change, then go out. Or did that one personal day lead to several personal days, and this is just like the third day in a row or something? And that’s why Stolas is stalking her and reporting back?

“You’ve always been devoted to Greendale, Mary” “Have I? Well, perhaps I’ve grown beyond it”

Okay, from Adam we get a hint at the type of person Mary was, the sort of interests she had, and the fact she’s obviously made it clear to Adam, she won’t leave the town. He then takes Lilith’s answer to mean she’s ready to adventure further, but we know this isn’t Mary and so her answer means so much more. Saying ‘Perhaps I’ve grown beyond it’, we know she’s talking about more than just the town, she’s talking about everything it represents and is linked to. Her dynamic/relationship/romance with Adam is waking Lilith up to some things, things she wasn’t happy with but was in survival-denial over, and now, with these escapes and personal days, she’s beginning to realise that. She’s grown beyond Greendale, Sabrina, Lucifer’s orders, the manipulations, the machinations for the throne. Lilith is ready for something different. She’s ready to explore things beyond Hell and beyond the Dark Lord, she’s finding herself growing tired of it all. 

The fact they come to stop at a bridge as she says this is a big deal. A bridge between two points, Do we cross the bridge? Once we cross the bridge we can’t turn back. The point of no return, the boundary between two realms. Lilith is metaphorically and literally on the cusp between two worlds. Much like Sabrina, at the beginning of Part 1, where she’s asked to choose between two worlds, Lilith is going to be asked to make a very similar choice too (the only difference, and significant one, is Lilith does choose to leave. She doesn’t choose both as Sabrina demanded. When given a choice of power or freedom, Lilith chooses freedom and that is so freaking significant to understanding her character).

Adam is so apprehensive when making his offer/suggestion to go to Tibet. He’s so expecting to be turned down. Lilith, on the other hand, thinks he’s joking. So much so, she bursts out laughing. Lilith finds the idea of being asked to join someone on a trip, as equals, asked to join them because they love her and her company rather than for any ulterior motive, that she actually laughs. And then when she sees his sincere, her expression goes from ‘oh. oops. Sorry. Wait, what?’

Even when she realises he’s genuine, her primary emotion is confusion. She just cannot compute this idea of him asking her. She’s not a doctor, she’s not a physician, she’s not anything that would be of any actual use in this medical charity, which means the only reason Adam is asking her is because he wants to be with her. And Lilith hasn’t had that in thousands of years. It’s strange to her. 

And then when he starts talking about the post she looks away like ‘yeah, yeah, here we go’. She seems to utterly expect him to say he’s going regardless, that he’s leaving for Tibet even if she doesn’t agree to go. She expects abandonment and being put in second place, because that’s what she always experiences, that’s how she’s always treated. And she doesn’t even look resentful at the idea, she just looks resigned and unsurprised. And then he makes that declaration:

“But I wouldn’t consider taking it, if you don’t come with me”

And that stops her. This person, this man, this mortal man, is openly declaring that she’s a deciding factor. That he won’t leave Greendale unless she leaves with him. She’s being told she’s more important than something, that she’s the most important, and I don’t think she’s ever had that. So she tries to dismiss it, like ‘Tibet? Adam, don’t be so absurd’. She’s dismissing it because it’s emotions she hasn’t experience before, but also part of her still can’t envision a world where she leaves, a life where she isn’t working to be Queen of Hell, an ordinary mortal life, even if only for the short time that Adam would live (consider she essentially lives forever). 

“Mary. I wanna show you the world”

And that’s the phrase that gets her. That’s the moment she’s utterly caught by his offer, speechless at his sincerity. She is around 6000 years old, there’s nothing of the world she hasn’t seen really, and yet here’s a 50-odd-year-old man offering to show the world himself. And perhaps, through his eyes, through this relationship of respect and affection and love, she would be shown the world for the first, a different world. This is, I feel, the declaration she wanted from the original Adam when she was in the Garden. To want to share the world with her, to experience everything side by side...and no matter how many millennia it’s been, that desire is still in Lilith’s core, and here it is, offered to her, by the one person who has shown her respect and love and affection in thousands of years. 

And no matter the consequences, no matter how ridiculous an idea she might feel it is, no matter how much she knows it would mean giving up the throne, how much she knows Adam will age and she won’t.....she can’t resist it. She agrees to consider it. And she says it so sincerely, looking at him so intently. And you know what? He doesn’t push, he doesn’t say ‘what’s to consider?’ he doesn’t ask when she will have an answer, the fact she says she’ll consider it is more than enough, and he smiles, that’s the end of the conversation. Adam never pushes her and that’s very important for Lilith, I feel, considering her other dynamics and the way people tend to treat her. 

When she goes to throw the pebble and Adam tells her to make a wish, she freaking does it. Lilith, the First Woman, the First Witch, Mother of Demons, Dawn of Doom....makes a wish on a pebble like a freaking love-sick teenager. And she actually thinks about the wish, you can see her concentrating as she genuinely picks what to wish for, and the way Adam watches her as she does, even though she doesn’t see him watching him is so affectionate and romantic. She throws it so unceremoniously though, which makes me laugh. And it makes Adam laugh too. Because it’s meant to be a gentle throw and Lilith just hurls it through the air. 

And then we see Bitch Snitch Stolas watching and flying off which makes us feel all kind of bad, even before we knew what was going to happen. 

Now as Adam was watching Lilith without her seeing, now Lilith looks at Adam without him seeing. This is a key thing of being in love. You do it a lot. Just watch the other person when they don’t know you’re watching them, you just study them, gently looking at them, quietly admiring and appreciating them. And the fact they both do it to each other, show how much in love they both are.
