There are so many people that think ROTS takes place over the course of a few days that it baffles me. I mean, sure, the passage of time is never explicitly stated nor is it done very well in this film but that means Padme, in order to deliver two healthy, not-premature babies - as the film would have us believe, would have had to be around nine months pregnant at the beginning of the film. It’s possible, I guess...
However...
It’s canon that Anakin has been in the Outer Rim for 5 months at the start of ROTS. He’s been gone for 5 months. In other words, Padme is at least 5 months pregnant at the start of the film, maybe 6, possibly and I mean possibly going into 7 depending on the time between conception, her own discovery of said pregnancy, and when Anakin left to do whatever it is that Jedi do.
The only way I can see her being nine months pregnant or close to delivery is if she knew long before he left and kept it from him, fearing that it would deter his mind, causing him to double think his way of life, not want to almost die on a daily basis, and abandon his job for her which...I honestly don’t think she would do. I don’t care how much she wants him to remain a Jedi, doing what he does best, and saving the galaxy one battle at a time. Padme, in my opinion, would still be the type of woman who realizes that her husband deserves to know that they’re going to have a baby cause that’s not a life-changing event in the slightest. Maybe she had suspicions before he left, sure, but I’ve always believed (or headcanoned, I guess) that she found out while he was gone.
So, yeah...All this to say, I think Revenge of the Sith takes place over at least 2-4 months.
PS: The fact that he’s been gone for 5 months is mentioned in the ROTS novelization, which is still canon, and I still say that everybody should read it.
(It’s also canon in the novel that, upon arriving on Coruscant after rescuing Palpatine, that Anakin sensed something was definitely going on with her but he couldn’t pinpoint what it was. Which makes me lean more towards a 3-4 month timeframe, making her barely, not even 6 months at the start of ROTS in my mind).
This probably made no sense...don’t mind me, it’s 2am.
