episode 108: The Terrifying Banana Gators and Mr. Prince!
they did the classic iconic "sparkle" sound effect (like the one they always do in a normal cartoon when a character with teeth smiles) and it took me out of the scene so hard and fast i started laughing. took psychic damage.
i wonder if the old man is like, an urban legend, or if crocodile just watched him randomly by spying on him.
this is a chilling, if expected reveal. that crocodile would dedicate that much time and energy to fucking with one guy and one town in particular is a testament to his pettiness.
this is a pivotal luffy moment for me. it's dumb and in character but i do like, in this moment, at least, how singularly focused luffy is on beating crocodile. his resolute determination, single-mindedly focused on his opponent, is i think his greatest strength.
both love and hate this moment. on one hand, poor vivi. on the other, its a gut punch. rarely do we not get to see, especially in shounen, characters not do their flashy attacks. oda did a great job of showing how powerless they are right now.
mid-episode eyecatch character tracker 1: sanji
mid-episode eyecatch character tracker 2: luffy
running total:
luffy: 89
zoro: 34
nami: 28
sanji: 23
usopp: 22
vivi: 15
chopper: 5
this is a great moment for sanji, especially since we know how absolutely fucking pissed crocodile was before. makes this moment and this face all the better.
audibly gasped here. never thought crocodile would come back. this is a good moment that to me shows he is starting to crack. less self-confident, more cautious now.
i like how loose and chaotic bon clay is drawn here. very flimsy, very whimsy.
again, the mask is starting to slip. we're seeing more and more real anger and emotion from crocodile. no more calm and cool and collected.
YES!!! he looks so good with the glasses! and the lottery win and cashout sound as the fade to black music? good shit!
