The last thing you needed was to turn into some clingy creep full force. Yeah, you were already like that, but now it was overwhelming. All you could think about was being close to him, crawling into his lap, earning his attention and his affection - and he said he was gonna leave. He was gonna leave in just a couple of hours to go back home after you finished hanging out and you didn’t want to be alone, you didn’t want—

Dave was in the other room, and you wouldn’t be alone, but somehow that doesn’t soothe the anxiety.

What if you cuddled up to him and asked him not to leave? What if he said no and he left anyway? What if he never talked to you again because of how creepy and suffocating you are?

Let’s start this off on a good note: Karkat lowkey wants Envy’s dick because Envy is The Biggest Dick In His Life. And I’m only half kidding about that, like, you know. Big dick that Karkat’s seen before. Karkat can take a lot up his nook. CONNECT THE DOTS THIS IS AN OBVIOUS REVELATION.

Of course he’s not going to do anything about that though because Big Dick does not trump Starry Eyes for Edge. (Which is very different from the situation with Dave where Dwindling, Confused Romantic Feelings were easily trumped by Starry Eyes for Edge.) 

Alright, so back to the Good Stuff: Karkat is pretty good friends with Envy! Karkat would probably consider Envy his best friend. They gossip and talk shit together, Karkat talks to Envy the most out of pretty much everyone, and Karkat is probably the most comfortable talking to Envy out of everyone that he has to talk to. (Right now this includes Edge, because Edge has his own problems that Karkat feels like he needs to support rather than weigh down on.) There was a time where Karkat legitimately considered VERY LITERALLY going to Envy to cry on him and gush his feelings, but Envy was busy so it worked out okay, lmao.

And at first Karkat REALLY DIDN’T MIND the idea of being Envy’s pet in pretty much any sense (as long as he could still be with Edge comfortably.) He didn’t have really any limits, he was A-Okay with it because he trusted Envy not to do anything to him or anything.

BUT RECENTLY, THAT’S CHANGED.

First of all: Trick. He knows that Envy (who owns his soul and by proxy owns him, has talked about collaring Karkat, etc) is involved with Trick and getting friendlier by the minute and he really doesn’t trust that and he’s terrified of Trick owning him by extension if he ends up owning Envy. He doesn’t want Envy and Trick to bond closely, because he doesn’t want to be closely tied to Trick like that. He doesn’t want Trick to have irrefutable influence over Envy because ENVY has irrefutable influence over him. (Granted, influence that Envy has said he wouldn’t exploit, but Karkat is pretty sure that Trick could override that if it were the case.)

And the more and more that Trick and Envy interact, the less that Karkat trusts that Envy WON’T fall into it with Trick and that Envy WON’T let Trick exploit that.

Yeah, Envy says that he won’t do that. Yeah, Envy says that he won’t exploit Karkat or let anything bad really happen to him like that. But Karkat has also been getting more and more acutely aware of how much Envy manipulates and exploits people. When Karkat first made the deal with him, he didn’t really think that Envy did that at all because it hadn’t been mentioned and Karkat hadn’t seen evidence of it. But now, it’s being mentioned more and more frequently and Karkat has seen actual evidence of it.

Karkat is definitely a little hypocritical when he scolds people for excusing and enabling manipulative and bad people (like Trick, during that whole rant, which was mostly fueled by anger to begin with and subject to hypocrisy BY NATURE due to that) but not so much that he’s completely blind and dumb to it. He’s realizing more and more that Envy is A Bad Person and he’s getting more and more uncomfortable with it. Even if he’s still MORE THAN WILLING to be good friends with Envy and eager to do just that: brush off the shit he does as long as it doesn’t effect him/anyone he cares about.

The thing is that he’s increasingly paranoid that it will begin to effect him and the people that he cares about. He sees how much Envy is manipulating people and leading people on and being fake sweet to people “for fun” and he can’t help but consider that all of Envy’s reassurances that he wouldn’t exploit him or fuck him over are bullshit: just leading Karkat on to further his own interests.
