Went to a social enterprise conference yesterday and it was lovely! this is the first conference I've ever been to in my life so I was a bit nervous but it turned out way better than I thought.

The vibes were immaculate, everyone was super kind and wonderful. The main workshop was actually exactly about all the stuff I'm obsessed with and blog about here; like the library of things, gift economies, degrowth, importance of community etc.

So, the real harm of microplastics is in the creation of that item, not in the washing since in terms of washing, of fibre shedding is almost imperceptible. So when you buy a recycled plastic item you are reusing an item which has already been created (so where most microplastic harm has already taken place) and which would otherwise go to landfill (which is super harmful) instead of creating demand for new items to be made, for new plastics to be made. And as mentioned above, since fibre shedding via washing is almost imperceptible, most of the harm of plastics comes from the creation and from the waste after use. Which is why the recycling aspect makes recycled plastic items so much more eco-friendly than non-recycled plastic items. Because you're taking plastic which would go to landfill and your creating items without creating new textiles.
