Prompt #15: Thunderous
Alliance soldiers were the last people Faye had expected to find herself fighting, especially at a time that seemed so opportune for striking down the crumbling Empire. And yet, here she found herself clashing with the rogue band of Alliance soldiers to defend Imperials of all things, even if in a roundabout way. Things always did seem to get bizarre and complicated wherever Khan was involved. But pulling punches on extremists just because they daylighted as Eorzean soldiers was not the Hyur’s style, especially not when she found herself surrounded.
Raising her rapier in the air, the runes upon the slender blade glowed to life, the force of the aether she was conjuring enough to tug at her hair and clothes in a tempestuous wind, the mage levitating off the ground below her. For a brief moment, the sky darkened, her skyward blade alight with lightning licking up the sword. The soldiers surely knew a spell being cast when they saw one and they rushed forward, but none could reach her in time. A blinding flash of light and a deafening crack of thunder were all that warned of what was to come, but it was far too late to stop the inevitable.
A bolt of lightning split the heavens, rushing down in an instant to strike the rapier before the electricity arced, branching out to touch each of their foes. They had but a moment to cry out before their convulsions stopped and each of the dozen soldiers lay motionless upon the ground, the air charged with static and heavy with scent of burnt flesh, the echoes of thunder still rumbling in the distance.
If Leo thought they were villains, she would gladly play the role.
