This is happening everywhere, the Leicester factories recently exposed for mistreating their workers are just one example. In the UK the Modern slavery act which became law in 2015 requires fashion brands and retailers operating in the UK to report annually on their efforts to eradicate modern slavery throughout their supply chains, but the government has failed to hold brands accountable by ceasing to monitor who is reporting. @ijm_uk are fighting against modern slavery by working with local law enforcement, it’s a group of advocates, donors, investigators, social workers and lawyers, they not only prosecute the oppressors, they also work to transform justice systems to enforce stronger laws so that slave owners are held accountable and distrusting this business model that makes slavery possible.
