Empathy everywhere: I love learning, so was thrilled to say yes to an invitation from a friend to attend a conference on design and innovation, held by #LivingTheBrandAcademy at #uilabs (nice view walking back afterward, right!), where a recurring theme was empathy! 💝 I asked my friend's panel a question as to whether the panelists thought empathy in design thinking should extend beyond the user, to empathy for the planet (sustainability) and empathy for everyone on the planet whether or not they're seen by a corporation as traditional stakeholders (human rights), giving the example of big chocolate company leaders and emoloyees who might think about what eaters like in terms of flavor and texture, but who don't ask what eaters want in terms of sustainability and human rights, and instead use child slave labor in their supply chains and are currently being sued for it, and also use large amounts of pesticides, additives, and solvents. A good discussion ensued! 🌎 #empathywins (at UI LABS)

Hello there! What fun to catch up with a dear friend and fellow Harvard College and Harvard Law alum, who graduated 35 years before I did! 🌟 Paul and I were both student volunteers during college who tutored underprivileged kids in Boston - we met a couple of years ago at a reunion for Harvard volunteers - and then we were both law students, just separated by three and a half decades! When he was at Harvard in the 1950s, there were no female students! Paul is an honorable and moral human - with a great sense of humor! - whom I admire enormously. 🌟 Today though we talked not about student days, but about - as so many are discussing - our current immoral and illegitimate government in the US and what to do about it. 🌟 Some takeaways: choose the ethical option. Choose to speak up and take positive action. Choose to reach in and reach out and find reflection, connection, and inspiration. Choose a South American country in case you need to go into exile - teasing? Maybe? Maybe not? Choose the cookie plate. Choose empathy! 🌟 #empathywins (at The Standard Club)
