Hablando de la serie en sí, entiendo a las personas que dicen que el ritmo es lento o que sientes que no pasa nada por un rato a pesar de que si pasen cosas y termina todo de golpe, pero aquí es en donde nuestras experiencias difieren por que no creo que sea el caso en lo absoluto o más bien no es tan "grave" en el gran esquema de las cosas. Si quieren inicios LENTOS vean dramas coreanos, al menos que sean del 2020/2021 para atrás.

Tenías una trama que recién comenzaba en el episodio 3 de 16 que eran en promedio para tener un final que casi siempre apresuraban para el ep. 15 o 14 siendo que si tenían tiempo de cerrarlo como corresponde pero siempre SIEMPRE alargaban la trama por el capítulo 8 o 9 cuando tranquilamente podría haber sido una serie de 10 capítulos (por eso suelo preferir dramas japoneses).

Para bien o para mal estoy algo acostumbrada pero entiendo que pueda ser un problema para otras personas. Aunque no diría que ese es un problema de la serie en sí para nada. Podrían mejorar el montaje entre escenas pero fuera de eso, las decisiones de cámara la dirección y la colorimetría aunque oscura no deja de ser una buena paleta de colores (no llega a niveles de House of the Dragon s2 a nivel de oscuridad quiero decir).

Algo que me molestaba muchísimo de lo que estuve leyendo durante la emisión de la serie es que seguían repitiendo y repitiendo que tiene "mala escritura" y por eso le pregunté a mi hermana mayor, que estudió para hacer cine y televisión (entre otras cosas), si qué era la mala escritura y de que si esta serie la tenía. La conclusión entre charla y charla sería que no, no está mal escrito, tiene un guión bastante bien escrito y es a nivel de producción televisiva bastante competente como para retener a una no muy grande pero notable audiencia, lo que fallaría tras leerlos para mi es a nivel de adaptación del material de origen.

Por que si bien, tan sólo dice que está "basado en" toma muchos elementos no sólo de los libros de las brujas sino de otras cosas referentes al universo en general. Entonces uno se pregunta por qué tiene una caracterización tan rara de Talamasca como organización así como un par de agujeros grandes en el guión, por ejemplo con respecto al por qué Jasper no detectó a Doris/Emma en el auto ó el adn de las gemelas por ejemplo, siendo que es algo que se establece en el material de origen que el adn humano no es igual al de un vampiro.

Uno puede especular que lo que le importaba a Jasper es que Guy le dijera la verdad más que sacarla del baúl, era una especie de prueba de confianza podríamos decir, y con respecto a Helen podríamos decir que Olive plantó su ADN en el sistema para sacarla del camino. Pero de nuevo, estaríamos especulando, no es algo que se diga en la serie, ergo se consideraría un error.

El universo inmortal de Ann Rice tiene fanáticos muy arrecimos al material de origen por lo que he estado aprendiendo en el poco tiempo que entré, pero eso no significa que puedan crucificar un medio audiovisual por no cumplir expectativas personales que quizás ni siquiera estuvieron planteadas desde la concepción de la serie.

Algunos dicen que si se hubiera sacado el nombre de "Talamasca" no hubieran sido tan duros con ella y puedo verlo, más no creo que le hubiera salvado por que le hubieran tachado de mediocre, quizás ni siquiera se hubieran enterado de su estreno y se hubiera tirado al olvido, quedando como otra serie de culto de todas formas.

Aún así, concedo y coincido en que si insisten en ser respetuosos con el material de origen le hubieran metido un poquito más de ganas en ese aspecto. En ese sentido yo siento que si podrían mejorar, por que hay espacio para la corrección y el aprendizaje. No me parece correcto ir a tal extremo de llamarlo un caso perdido, muchos de los "errores" o "conveniencias" pueden tranquilamente corregirse en una subsecuente segunda temporada (por favor dios, tu que me escuchas).

Tampoco me parece llamarlo la peor cosa del mundo por que si quieren algo malo con ganas y sin arreglo vean las producciones más recientes de Ryan Murphy y luego me dicen si esto es tan malo como parece (y ni hablemos de producciones que tienen mundos o criaturas sobrenaturales que no las aprovechan para nada).

Como les mencioné en la publicación que hice sobre Guy, hay que preguntarse si algo es en realidad malo por que no me gusta a mi o por que de verdad está hecho con los pies. Irse a tales extremos de cosa que "no me gusta = anticristo" es dañino para la discusión online por que no permite un debate sano y hace que las personas que quieran hablar de la serie tengan miedo de que alguien venga e intente callarlo a insultos. Aplica para toda serie/película que se consuma.

Volviendo a la serie, y hablando ya de los personajes, Guy is my Guy💗​. Lo adoro, denme 100 de esos. Es impresionante cómo tiene capa tras capa de cosas por explorar de él incluso si no se lo habría planeado necesariamente. La critica más común que leí es que para ser el protagonista es demasiado "pasivo" y que sólo las cosas le pasan, parafraseando podría o no estar en la escena e igual sucedería y yo no opino lo mismo.

En mi publicación sobre Guy también mencioné esto, de que su recorrido en la serie es darse cuenta que él no tiene poder sobre nada y que es sólo un peón en el tablero de este mundo sobrenatural, todos tienen su propia agenda y no van a dudar en tenerlo o descartarlo de ser necesario. Para mi, el chiste vendría siendo el ver cómo se maneja ante estas situaciones y cómo se mueve a través de ellas y así resultando en una mejor versión de si mismo, y también una más auténtica.

Algo que me quedó a deber la temporada pero que siento que se lo quisieron guardar para más adelante es el desarrollo de los poderes de Guy y de hasta dónde puede llegar. Vimos algo muy interesante en el capítulo 4 que es que lejos de leer sus mentes también puede sentir lo que el otro siente y a su vez crear un trance al entrar profundo en el recuerdo o la memoria de alguien, permitiendo que reviva los sentimientos de ese punto específico de la memoria (¿súper empatía? Will Graham, ¿eres tu?)

Como no soy conocedora de los libros ignoro si el Regalo de la mente funciona así o si tiene más capas, pero de no ser así estaríamos ante un psíquico bastante raro y peculiar, no hay dudas de por qué es como catnip para vampiros (?)

Y hablando de vampiros, hablemos de Jasper. Coincido con que debe ser la adición más interesante en lo que vampiros se refiere en este universo (aparte de Burton, claro). Y si, sería un desperdicio enorme si no lo aprovechan en una segunda temporada o en alguna otra serie (nada en este mundo me haría retomar las Brujas de Mayfair… excepto que de alguna forma lo cuelen en esa serie -por favor no-) Me encanta que sea tan intenso, es decir, conoció a Guy por un día y medio y por poco no le ofrece el mundo.

Adoro lo intenso que es, y tener en contraste el cómo trataba a Owen a diferencia de Guy no ayuda, onda, había un claro favoritismo entre los dos si usted me entiende (e inclusive se puede desmenuzar tanto de esas dos dinámicas, a gift that keeps on giving).

Continuando con los vampiros (spoiler) Doris/Emma, Doris my beloved, my shayla & Helen/Fiona. Doris siendo un vampiro y el 752 fue una sorpresa muy grata, lo que hace todo más trágico si nos ponemos a pensar. Por que la conexión entre gemelas es algo único, ahora que una es un vampiro eso podría haber cambiado o haberse roto por completo, es decir, es como perder una parte de ti. Aunque su breve encuentro me da a entender que no se fue del todo, sólo les falta estar juntas un poco más.

Lo que si coincido es en que es un poco raro que, teniendo todos los conocimientos de la Orden en algún lado tendría que haber uno hablando de los Regalos, ¿cómo es que Doris no pensó en aprender uno? ¿O es sencillamente incapaz de aprender? ¿Que no importa lo que haga no puede aprender ninguna habilidad excepto a cerrar su mente? (lo cual no es muy sorprendente sabiendo que a todos en Talamasca les enseñan eso, humanos o no)

¿O quizás la Orden le hizo creer que era inútil para eso y por eso se asumió inútil? (es decir, la sugestionaron en pensar que era muy débil para eso) Tampoco queda demasiado claro cómo es que se escapó siendo tan vigilada, o hay cosas que Doris no está diciendo o genuinamente es un hoyito más en la trama. Muchas dudas pocas respuestas.

Y en el caso de Helen, asumo que la dejaron entrar por que creían que así la iban a tener controlada a largo plazo. De pronto les funcionó por que se puso a buscar a su hermana activamente cuando supo de la posibilidad de que el 752 existiera, dándole esperanza de que ahí estuviera la respuesta. Asumo que a Jasper le dieron una pista a propósito sobre la existencia de este "libro" así lo buscara y por ende Helen lo sabría al ser asignada ese caso lo que haría que la trama comience en sí.

Creo que el problema que tienen algunos es que no lo dejan explícito en la serie, entonces queda un poco vago y que si no lo cazas lo pierdes.

Algo que si es un problema para mi, o más bien una queja, es que me dejaron muy de lado a Olive, no supimos bien cuál eran sus motivos, si desde cuando trabaja con Helen, si hace poco le asignaron esa misión, si le importó en algún momento Guy o sólo le tuvo lástima en algún momento (por que podría haber provocado que muriera al principio de la historia no más al haber sugestionado -asumo- para que estuviera con Keves por ejemplo), me faltó más de ella (¡y de los demás personajes también!).

Ya como para cerrar todo este revoltijo de ideas y pensamientos algo inconexos les comento una pequeña anécdota. Cuando le dije a un amigo de ver la serie lo hizo (fui muy feliz) y me comentó que la terminó y si bien no le desagradó se sintió vacío por que le dejó más dudas que respuestas y siento que ese es el problema general de la serie.

No es mala, para nada, mejor que MW es, se sostiene (apenas) por su cuenta, pero le falta un poco bastante más para estar a la par de IWTV y mezclarse de forma homogénea en el universo que se ha planteado hasta ahora. Espero que corrijan estas cosas sobre el lore por ejemplo por que me daría mucha pena que desperdicien tanto potencial que tiene (y creo que por eso me emociona la idea de que lo continúen, lejos de desanimarme por no tener respuestas ¡estoy emocionada por saber más en adelante! Tengo mucha curiosidad por lo que pueden hacer en un futuro)

Aún con todo lo que puse no duden en que la serie está aprobada para mi, es decir, ¡estoy hiperfijada por amor al cielo! Pero eso no quita que pueda ver ciertas cosas saben, me gusta desmenuzar cada cosa que veo (ya sea que me guste o no) es inevitable, hasta podría hacer más reseñas de otras cosas que he visto, lo pensaré para un futuro.

Recuerden mirar Talamasca en Netflix si está disponible en su país a partir del 1 de diciembre ¡así haya más posibilidades de tener una segunda temporada! (nunca hay que perder la fe!).

Here's the short version if you don't want to read too much:

For me, it's a perfect 6/10, or 6.5/10 if I consider how obsessed I am with this series. Anyway, I had a great time watching it, I was entertained, it didn't feel slow or drawn out (but I understand those who do, we'll talk about that later), and I enjoyed it completely. The acting, camera work, sound, and visuals were excellent, and the special effects were very good, especially considering it's not a high-budget TV production.

It's one of those shows where if you stop to think about it, you'll find many flaws, but at the same time, it's not tedious to consider the possibilities or answers. In fact, I personally had fun speculating and theorizing these past few weeks, and I think that's what I get most out of this experience.

It has its flaws (like adaptation issues, contradictions, convenient plot points, and plot holes), but it's nowhere near being one of the worst series on TV/streaming. I think it can improve a lot, and I hope the people behind this show are reading or at least taking some of the feedback the series is getting into account. Speaking of which, WHERE'S MY CONFIRMATION OF A SECOND SEASON, AMC?! WHERE?! I mean /coughs

Anyway, now for my general thoughts on the series and what I mentioned above. I'll also talk a bit about the characters, what I liked and didn't like, as well as the opinions I've been reading lately and whether people are getting too caught up in it (spoiler alert, yes).

Speaking of the series itself, I understand the people who say the pacing is slow or that you feel like nothing is happening for a while, even though things are happening and it all ends abruptly. But this is where our experiences differ because I don't think that's the case at all, or rather, it's not that "serious" in the grand scheme of things. If you want SLOW starts, watch Korean dramas, at least those from 2020/2021 or earlier.

You'd have a plot that only really gets going in episode 3 of 16, which is about the average length, to have an ending that they almost always rushed to episode 14 or 15, even though they had time to wrap it up properly. But they ALWAYS dragged out the plot until episode 8 or 9 when it could easily have been a 10-episode series (that's why I usually prefer Japanese dramas).

For better or for worse, I'm somewhat used to it, but I understand that it might be a problem for other people. Although I wouldn't say that's a problem with the series itself at all. They could improve the editing between scenes, but other than that, the camera choices, the direction, and the color palette, while dark, are still quite good (I mean, it doesn't reach the levels of House of the Dragon season 2 in terms of darkness).

Something that really bothered me about what I was reading while the series was airing was the constant repetition of the "bad writing" label. So I asked my older sister, who studied film and television (among other things), what bad writing actually meant and whether this series had it. Our conclusion, after much discussion, was that no, it's not badly written. The script is quite well-written, and the television production is competent enough to retain a small but noticeable audience. What I found lacking, after reading the reviews, was the adaptation of the source material.

Because while it only says it's "based on," it borrows heavily not only from the Witches books but also from other sources within the universe. So one wonders why the Talamasca is portrayed so strangely as an organization, and why there are a couple of major plot holes, for example, regarding why Jasper didn't detect Doris/Emma in the car or the twins' DNA, given that it's established in the source material that human DNA is not the same as vampire DNA.

One could speculate that what mattered to Jasper was that Guy told him the truth, rather than getting her out of the trunk; it was a kind of trust test, we could say. And regarding Helen, we could say that Olive planted her DNA in the system to get her out of the way. But again, we'd be speculating; it's not something stated in the series, therefore it would be considered a mistake.

Anne Rice's immortal universe has very devoted fans of the source material, from what I've learned in the short time I've been involved, but that doesn't mean they can crucify an audiovisual medium for not meeting personal expectations that perhaps weren't even established from the series' inception.

Some say that if they had dropped the name "Talamasca," it wouldn't have been so harsh on, and I can see that, but I don't think it would have saved it because it would have been labeled mediocre. Perhaps no one would have even heard about its premiere, and it would have faded into obscurity, becoming just another cult series anyway.

Even so, I concede and agree that if they insist on being respectful of the source material, they should have put a little more effort into that aspect. In that sense, I feel they could improve because there's room for correction and learning. I don't think it's right to go to the extreme of calling it a lost cause; many of the "errors" or "conveniences" can easily be corrected in a subsequent second season (please, God)

I also don't think it's fair to call it the worst thing in the world, because if you want something truly awful and beyond redemption, watch Ryan Murphy's most recent productions and then tell me if this is as bad as it seems (and let's not even talk about productions with supernatural worlds or creatures that they completely waste).

As I mentioned in my post about Guy, we have to ask ourselves if something is really bad because I don't like it or because it's genuinely poorly made. Going to such extremes as "I don't like something = antichrist" is harmful to online discussions because it doesn't allow for healthy debate and makes people who want to talk about the series afraid that someone will come along and try to silence them with insults. This applies to every series/movie that's consumed.

Getting back to the series, and talking about the characters, Guy is my Guy💗​. I adore him, give me 100 of those. It's impressive how he has layer upon layer of things to explore about him, even if they didn't necessarily plan it that way. The most common criticism I read is that, for a protagonist, he's too "passive" and that things just happen to him. To paraphrase, he could be in the scene or not, and it would still happen, and I disagree.

In my post about Guy, I also mentioned this: his journey in the series is about realizing that he has no power over anything and that he's just a pawn on the chessboard of this supernatural world. Everyone has their own agenda and won't hesitate to use him or discard him if necessary. For me, the real fun lies in seeing how he handles these situations and how he navigates them, ultimately becoming a better and more authentic version of himself.

Something the season left me wanting more of, but which I feel they were saving for later, is the development of Guy's powers and how far they can go. We saw something very interesting in chapter 4: far from reading minds, he can also feel what the other person feels and, in turn, create a trance by delving deep into someone's memory, allowing them to relive the feelings from that specific point in their memory (super empathy? Will Graham, is that you?).

Since I'm not familiar with the books, I don't know if the Mind gift works like this or if it has more layers, but if not, we'd be dealing with a rather strange and peculiar psychic. There's no doubt why he's like catnip to vampires (?).

And speaking of vampires, let's talk about Jasper. I agree that he has to be the most interesting addition to the vampire universe (aside from Burton, of course) so far. And yes, it would be a huge waste if they don't use him in a second season or some other series (nothing in this world would make me go back to The Mayfair Witches… unless they somehow sneak him into that show - please no!). I love how intense he is; I mean, he met Guy for a day and a half and practically offered him the world.

I adore how unhinged he is, and the contrast between how he treated Owen and Guy doesn't help; like, there was a clear favoritism between the two, if you know what I mean (and you can even dissect those two dynamics so much, a gift that keeps on giving).

Continuing with the vampires (spoiler) Doris/Emma, ​​Doris my beloved, my Shayla & Helen/Fiona. Doris being a vampire and the 752 was a very pleasant surprise, which makes everything more tragic when you think about it. Because the connection between twins is something unique, now that one is a vampire, that could have changed or been completely broken; it's like losing a part of yourself. Although their brief encounter suggests to me that it hasn't gone away entirely; they just need to be together a little longer.

What I do agree with is that it's a bit strange that, given all the Order's knowledge, somewhere there had to be something about the Gifts. How come Doris didn't think to learn one? Or is she simply incapable of learning? That no matter what she does, she can't learn any skill except how to shut down her mind? (Which isn't very surprising, knowing that everyone in Talamasca is taught that, human or not.)

Or perhaps the Order made her believe she was useless for it, and that's why she accepted that as her own uselessness? (That is, they made her think she was too weak for that.) It's also not entirely clear how she escaped while being so closely watched. Either there are things Doris isn't saying, or it's genuinely another plot hole. Many questions, few answers.

And in Helen's case, I assume they let her in because they thought it would keep her under control long-term. It probably worked for them because she actively started searching for her sister when she learned of the possibility that 752 existed, giving her hope that the answer lay there. I assume Jasper was deliberately given a clue about the existence of this "book" so he would search for it, and therefore Helen would know about it when she was assigned the case, which would set the plot in motion.

I think the problem some people have is that it's not explicitly stated in the series, so it remains somewhat vague, and if you don't pick up on it, you lose it.

Something that is a problem for me, or rather a complaint, is that Olive was largely sidelined. We didn't really learn her motives, how long she'd been working with Helen, if she'd recently been assigned that mission, if she ever cared about Guy or just felt sorry for him at some point (because she could have caused his death at the beginning of the story simply by manipulating him—I assume— in his first encounter with Keves, for example). I wanted more of her (and the other characters too!).

To wrap up this jumble of somewhat disconnected thoughts, let me share a little anecdote. When I told a friend to watch the series, he did (I was very happy) and told me that he finished it. While he didn't dislike it, he felt empty because it left him with more questions than answers, and I feel that's the series' general problem.

It's not bad at all, it's better than MW, it (barely) stands on its own, but it's still missing a lot to be on par with IWTV and blend seamlessly into the universe they've established so far. I hope they fix these things about the lore, for example, because I'd be really sad if they wasted so much potential (and I think that's why I'm excited about the idea of ​​them continuing it; far from being discouraged by not having answers, I'm excited to find out more! I'm very curious about what they can do in the future).

Even with everything I've said, don't doubt that the series is a definite yes for me, I mean, I'm totally hooked! But that doesn't mean I can't watch certain things, you know. I like to dissect everything I see (whether I like it or not), it's inevitable. I could even do more reviews of other things I've seen; I'll think about it for the future.

Remember to watch Talamasca on Netflix if it's available in your country starting December 1st, as this increases the chances of a second season! (Never lose hope!).
