Embed support for all PanoMoments users
We’re building a new living photo format for the Web and VR called PanoMoments. Our goal is to one day see them everywhere, but that’s a big wish to fulfill with a new format. Today, we’re excited to announce a small step towards that future - we now support the oEmbed API which allows PanoMoments to be embedded across any of the 1000’s of sites that support Embedly. This includes sites like Medium, Reddit, the NY Times, and many more.
And while the Pro / Commercial accounts are required for more sophisticated iFrame / white label integrations, Embedly embeds are open and free for all PanoMoments users. To get started, all you have to do is copy the PanoMoment URL like:
https://my.panomoments.com/u/MomentCaptureStudio/m/composite-europe
And then simply paste it into any site that accepts Embedly. Here’s a quick demo on how to embed a PanoMoment on Medium:
To embed in sites that don’t directly support the Embedly API, you can just copy / paste the HTML code snippet found on https://my.panomoments.com/me (click the share icon under the PanoMoment you’d like to embed). The HTML snippet looks like this:
<blockquote class=”embedly-card”><h4><a href=”https://my.panomoments.com/u/MomentCaptureStudio/m/composite-europe">Cross-fade Composite</a></h4></blockquote><script async src=”//cdn.embedly.com/widgets/platform.js” charset=”UTF-8"></script>
In the next few months we hope to get PanoMoments integrated in even more sites (yes, even Facebook). Here are a few of the things we’re working on:
Partial rotations (< 360 degrees)
Commercial licensing and offline file hosting
Streaming support for other browsers (Safari is our priority)
Magic window gyro support in the web
Sound support
Improved iOS performance (arriving in the iOS 11.3 update in April)
Facebook integration
Since the beginning, our goal has been to provide a platform where people can discover, create, and share PanoMoments captured around the world. Feel free to reach out to us via email if you have any questions, feedback, or are interested in working together.
- The PanoMoments team
TweetPaste RIP
TweetPaste, my webapp for embedding tweets has been down for weeks now - by choice - so it's about time I made a formal announcement to say that, I'm afraid it won't be coming back any time soon.
I built it in 2008 and it ran for about 2 years, and got some use which made me pleased, but between paying for two domain names (tweetpaste.net and thingamaweb.com), and dealing with what happens when demand gets high and my inbox is bombarded with errors from requests that can't be fulfilled (due to Twitter throttling), it's become a bit too much to handle, but more importantly, it's no longer the best tool for the job.
Twitter supports oEmbed, a technology adopted by WordPress and many others, for embedding content from a simple URL, rather than through unwieldy slabs of HTML. embed.ly is a great tool that puts a lot of that power in the pockets for those either not on WordPress, or for those who want to use oEmbed consumers that WordPress isn't familiar with. With these types of technologies, you simply put the URL of a tweet directly into your post, hit Publish and you're done. That's brilliant. Not all solutions are as accessible as TweetPaste was, but it's still fairly early days.
Thank you to the thousands of people who used TweetPaste to enrich their content, and if you need any help or advice switching over, please let me know. You can find me on Twitter as @moxypark.

Embed Button Now On ShareThis List
ShareThis has added Embedly’s Embed Button to their list of ways to share content. You can give your readers complete freedom to share content when using ShareThis with this new integration.
The Embed Button can be added to any page on its own as well. Viewers can share content easily when this is added to your site.
The Embed Button is easy to implement, and using it on ShareThis is as well. Both are so simple, its actually fool proof.
First pick a platform.
Next select the style you like from their clear cut options.
Search for “Embedly” in the sharing buttons. Drag it into the selected services.
Then click get the code. Poof, your done.
We have a full tutorial on our site on how to add the Embed Button as well. Check it out and start adding this to your site so your content travels further.

A Picture Tour Of Our New Office: Welcome home
A couple weeks back Embedly took another big step, just after our 5th birthday, we moved into a new office space. Brighter, bigger, and better is how we’d describe it in a few short words. We packed our boxes, and over a couple streets we went.
When we started thinking about relocating to make room for our expanding team, we wanted to stay close to what had been home for us. The Boston area; filled with entrepreneurs and startups, has treated us well. It was particularly important for us to be centrally located in downtown Boston, yet close to Cambridge, a hub for innovation.
Our larger, brighter office with designated spaces provides rooms to meet as collaborative teams, discuss new trends in technology, and serve our current customers better. It also gives a place to drop in a few more desks so we can add to our growing team.
Our office continues to be open concept where we all work and sit as a team. We've shifted where we sit so we can get to know one another a bit more, and develop synergies that may not have been present.
Enjoy taking a look at some pictures below. We’re still unpacking the boxes- but if you are in the area, stop by and check out our new digs at 100 North Washington Street, Boston!
We're Hacking This Weekend
We'll be in NYC this weekend at the Hacking Journalism Hackathon. We're thrilled to be hosting such an influential event on how we consume and share media.
A study from March of 2014, found that
---Millennials spend 18 hours a day consuming media---
18 hours a day! If you're not sleeping then you're likely consuming media. Think about that. What else do you spend 18 hours a day doing, besides breathing? We see a lot of new trends in the media consumption space, and can't wait to see what will surface from the weekend.
A big shout out to our sponsors for the weekend, Conde Naste, Parse.ly, Ramp, and the MIT Media Lab. We are excited to have them at the table as we engage in conversations around media, with an emphasis on video.
Are you coming to the Hackathon this weekend? We're excited to have you be a part of something so big. We have a limited number of spots for the presentations on Sunday. If you want to see the presentations or have questions around the weekend, email me at laura (at) embed (dot) ly
A New Site For A New Year- Delivered A Couple Weeks Early
It's refreshing and fun to work with developers, bloggers and even executives here at Embedly. We constantly strive to help our customer serve their end users better. Thank you for sticking with us for the last half a decade, we hope you'll be there for the next half a decade, and then-some.
We're proud of all we've done, but if you know us, you know we aren't about to sit back, kick back and relax. We've worked hard to develop a new website which has gone live today!
In our redesign, we spent lots of time thinking of you, our user. In how you use our service, and how we could make it faster to find what you are looking for. We hope the site is easy for you to navigate, and demonstrates all the services we're able to offer you. Take a look at the new site, let us know what you love about, if there are features from the old one you miss, and how we can improve it for a better user experience. We'd love your feedback so check it out and send us a tweet!
We want to continue to push boundaries and offer you the best experience possible. For that reason, we continue to evolve, and hope to roll out some new features and products in 2015. Thanks for a wonderful 2014- Here's to an even better 2015 with all of you.
