❝   AHHHHHHH!  ❞    he screams at the top of his lungs in the hopes of invoking some higher power.   then he thinks it’s happened in the craziest of ways  (  though not so much when you consider the full context of the parallel world plagued by monsters  )  when the monster flies across the clearing  and leaves rick dumbfounded,  but safe.   the adventurer rises to his feet in a swift motion,  then slowly looks at his own hands,  then brings one to his own throat.  had his scream done that?   did he have powers now?    ❝  holy shit  …  ❞   when he catches something move with the corner of his eye,  he is quick to draw the small fire pistol he had at his side  (  custom made, thank you very much  )   and point in the incoming creature’s direction.

               despite  the  fact  that  she  can  feel  her  heart  breaking  as  jane  speaks ,  she  hopes  her  face  doesn’t  give  it  away .  the  words  sit  heavy  on  her  heart  as  she  listens ,  allows  the  weight  of  them  to  settle  between  the  two  of  them .  robin  isn’t  sure  when  she’d  become  a  sort  of  confidant ...  but  she  doesn’t  mind .  especially  if  it  means  the  outcast  doesn’t  feel  quite  so  alone  in  the  world .  she’s  been  there ...  felt  like  there  was  no  one  to  talk  to ,  like  there  was  no  one  in  the  whole  damn  world  who  could  ever  understand .  and  no  one ...  no  matter  how  shitty  or  perfect  or  anything  in  between ...  deserved  to  feel  like  that .

               so  she  listens ,  knowing  that  the  loneliness  and  the  guilt  can  be  all  consuming  because  she’s  felt  it .  she  let  it  eat  her  alive  once  upon  a  time  and  if  she  can  keep  jane  from  drowning  in  what  ifs  and  should  have  beens ?  she’ll  sit  there  all  night  and  listen  to  her ,  talk  to  her .  they  haven’t  been  close .  they  haven’t  spoken  much  at  all  especially  since  she’d  left  for  california .  but  there’s  a  level  of  protectiveness  that  rises  to  her  throat  as  the  younger  lets  the  words  tumble  from  her  lips  in  the aftermath  of  vecna  as  the  town  rallied  around  those  who  had  lost  so  much .  but  no  one  knew  just  how  much  they  had  lost .

               but  for  now ,  the  world  around  them  fades  to  the  background  and  her  full  focus  is  on  jane  because  now  that  she  knows  the  truth ?  now  that  she  knows  who  henry  was ?  she  can’t  begin  to  imagine  what  jane’s  going  through ,  what  questions  must  be  churning  in  the  back  of  her  mind .  so  she  let’s  the  quiet  settle ,  makes  sure  that  jane’s  said  everything  she  needs  to ,  everything  that’s  on  her  chest  so  that  she  doesn’t  feel  silenced .  and  then  she  reaches  a  hand  out ,  gently  resting  against  her  shoulder  to  give  a  soft  squeeze  before  allowing  it  to  fall  back  to  her  lap .

with  a  better  view  of  her  injuries,   he  silently  works  out  the  beginning  of  a  plan  on  how  to  fix  them,   scrambling  around  for  makeshift  first  aid  items.    ❛    we’re  gonna  get  you  fixed  right  up  .   .   .    ❜    his  voice  is  still  soft  and  there’s  somewhat  of  a  wobble  to  it  as  fear  threatens  to  slip  out.   it  really  wasn’t  as  bad  as  he  was  thinking  when  he  saw  her  lying  there  but  it  was  pretty  fuckin’  bad  nonetheless.     ❛   then  when  we  get  home:  bedrest.  we’ll  make  triple  decker  eggo  extravaganzas  all  week  long  and  your  friends  can  come  over  every  day  and    ━    and   maybe  we  can  convince  joyce  to  make  you  some  of  that  .   .   .  whatever  it  is  you  guys  call  it.     ❜    he’s  vaguely  aware  of  the  people  around  them,   of  the  woman  just  behind  his  shoulder  handing  over  supplies  as  he  calls  out  for  them.   HIS  HEART  POUNDING  SO  ERRATICALLY   his  own  voice  sounded  miles  away.     ❛    whatdya   think  of  that  ,  huh  ?   save  the  world  one  last  time  and  be  a  little  .  .  .  boring  for  a  while  .   .  .    ❜
