You know when you go into something hoping for the best? You hear all the comments about how it’s awful, shitty, and hard, but you’re hoping that maybe it won’t be that way despite what’s been said?
That’s life. That’s just life- school and work- it’s all the same. It’s awful, shitty, and hard- and it never stops. Sometimes you find a way to get a break, but it’s not often.
Who knew that life was just… Being pushed and bossed around? You go to school, feel guilty about not doing the homework, have teachers tell you what to do and how to act for hours. And then you go to work, have your co-workers judge you with their nasty glances and customers bend you over backward, then you get yelled at by your boss for not being perfect. Does it ever end?
Your only solace is coming home- home, where you can finally relax in bed and pretend that waking up tomorrow won’t bring the exact same bullshit as today. You live by yourself in a small apartment, so it was actually a little lonely when you came home, but Morgana would stay at your place sometimes to keep you company. But when you came home today, it wasn’t Morgana who was waiting for you on your couch.
It was Ryuji.
You drop your bag with a sigh, shutting the door and looking at him with pathetic puppy eyes as you hold out your arms. “Ryuji, hold me,” you whine, “today’s been a pile of garbage.”
Ryuji looks up at you surprised from his comic that he was reading, but he’s quick on his feet to spring up and head over to you. “Aw, baby, it’s the end of the world, isn’t it?” He coos and scoops you in his arms. Your boyfriend wasn’t the strongest- in fact, he was quite lean and just a lot of limbs, but you find familiar comfort in his embrace as he leads you to the couch.
“It is,” you tell him, sitting down on the lumpy cushions while keeping your hold on him. “I hate going to school. I hate going to work.”
“Tell me about it,” he groans and relaxes, one of his hands coming up and combing through your hair. You spare him a glance with a smile.
“Did you have a shitty day, too?”
“I guess so. It’s just the same shit, y’know? It gets exhausting so I thought I’d come here and see you.”
Ugh, you love him. No one understands you as much as Ryuji does.
“Thank you, and I totally get what you mean,” you put your face in his neck and cuddle closer. “What comic did you bring?”
“Oh, you’re going to love it!” Ryuji brightens up in a second as he leans forward to grab the book he discarded before, and then he falls into a long ramble as he tells you the plot and begins to show you the panels.
Eventually, the two of you order a pizza, continuing to cuddle and talk on the couch. When the pizza guy comes, you actually have him come in the house and set it on the coffee table in front of you so you don’t have to get up- you tip the guy generously for letting you be lazy.
Yeah, the world sucks. But with Ryuji… It feels just a bit better- almost worth it.

I'm a depressed Duck so 5 things that make me happy might take a while but here it goes.
Listening to music on long car rides. I’m a daydreamer by nature and music had always helped me create an image in my mind which in turn helps me figure out scenes/dialogue or ideas for stories and characters that I’ve been stuck on. Sometimes whole new characters come up and introduce themselves and demand their story be told.
Swimming. I am a fish stuck in a human body, even though open water gives me anxiety, I would spend all day in a pool, at the beach, in a pond if I could. Even when I was little, I would be in the water every chance I got. I’ve always secretly wanted to be a mermaid. I love the weightlessness of floating on your back and staring up at the clouds on a sunny day.
Animals and nature. I always say I like animals more than people and I’m 99.9% sure people think I’m joking. I’m not. Like, don’t get me wrong, I love my family but if I could spend the rest of my life out in the wild, taking pictures and studying wildlife, I’d be set. I watch all those wildlife shows like Planet Earth and Wild *insert country name* at 3am with no regrets. I soak all that knowledge up because it’s just so amazing. I will cry when/if I see an elephant in real life.
Dancing and music. I have social anxiety and even when I want to dance in public, when everyone else is, I physically can’t make my body do it. So I usually end up listening to Lizzo at 4 in the morning, shaking everything and just let go. It’s nothing special but I smile and feel happy and Good. Which is rare for me. I remember cleaning out my room, wearing old heels I’d found under my bed and listening to Lady Gaga’s “Fame Monster” while dancing my ass off. I fell multiple times, got a few bruises but I’d never felt better about myself than I did in that moment. I’m getting better about dancing in front of people because it makes me happy and fuck what anyone else thinks.
My family. It’s cliche but true. They piss me off, we don’t always get along but I wouldn’t be alive without them. I wouldn’t have graduated without my mom fighting for me to be home schooled. My dad answers all my stupid questions and taught me how to change tires, bleed brakes and change brake pads. My sister shares my love of movies and we fangirl over shit together and go to airshows and the drive-in even when it’s raining. My nieces love when I print out coloring pages for them that they got to pick themselves. I taught the oldest one how to tie her shoes, they catch bugs and frogs to show me and we raised tadpoles one Summer and fuck if the fact that my youngest niece, at 7 years old, picked up a spider in school and released it out of the window instead of squashing it because I made sure she knew how important spiders are, makes me cry tears of joy.
