Lottacoins Island Part 1
The plan was set to have Peach be bait and to look for where those strange birds been taken people. We found out where the birds were taken people and follow ahead to get Peach back.
FEAR THE MIGHT OF IDLE!
Mario and Luigi brothership spoilers?
This was a difficult one for me. I started this drawing when i was having a bad day and ever since, I've never felt motivation to finish it since every time I tried, those memories would come back to me.
But hey, even though it was hard, I finished it and here it is! I love them a lot and I feel like they deserve the world.
I beat the new Mario and Luigi game a while back, and I had a lot of fun! When I saw these kids, I thought it'd be fun if Chopper and Flyer interacted with them.

So was anybody going to tell me Starlow and Peach adopt a bunch of kids in Brothership and basically elope together or was I just supposed to play the game myself and find out?
Also I do NOT remember Starlow being this gay for Princess Peach but maybe I need to replay the other games, it HAS been a little while.
Brothership Fic: The Crooked Cord who stole Bonding Day
As Concordia prepares for its yearly tradition of Bonding Day, the continental residents discover that their offerings for the Great Conductor have all been stolen⌠and itâs up to the IDLE Crew of Desolatt to solve this conundrum.
â
A silly Christmas fic I conjured up and wanted to write for the holiday season⌠still contains Brothership spoilers though. Proceed with caution.
Characters/settings belong to Nintendo and Acquire Corp. I simply made this for fun.
No Concordian couldnât be more excited, for the landâs holiday season was on the horizon.
Lights were hung from the homes within the many landscapes of the continent. Groups of kid friends played in the snow that had gathered, especially in Slippenglide. The people there always saw more visitors arrive during the holidays.
The Uni-Tree was most especially catered to. Lights were strung from the base of the tree as high as they could go. Various gifts were placed around the treeâs base, including whatever trinkets or snacks the people of Concordia were giving out.
Connie, a young Wattanist, watched over the Uni-Tree. Her job was to watch over the gifts as her mentor, Cozette, had instructed.
âHow are the offerings, Connie?â Cozette asks as she approaches her student. âAll present and accounted for?â She then giggles at her small unintentional pun.
âTheyâre all here, Ms. Cozette!â Connie said joyfully. âItâs all ready for Bonding Day!â
âGreat work, Connie!â Says Cozette. ââŚItâs getting late. Iâll take you home. Come with me.â
Connie then steps beside Cozette, taking her hand as they walk away from the Uni-Tree. ââŚWhat do you think the Great Conductorâs blessing will be this year?â She asks.
Cozette chuckles a little. âIâm sure that whatever it is, it will be very special, Connie.â She said, a small smile plastered on her face.
âŚEvery year, Concordia would give out offerings to the Great Conductor. The revered God would then bestow the continent with a grand blessing in return⌠only in just two days would the continent see the Great Conductor at the Center of Concordia once again for such a glorious moment.
âŚLittle did they all know someone was out to ruin their holiday cheerâŚ
â
The next morning before Bonding Day was springing with life. Many spoke of the upcoming holiday with vigor, excited to see the Great Conductor in all of his glory.
Seeing the God up and about was not so common, thus seeing him was always exciting. Wondering what his yearly blessing could be was even more so.
Every Concordian hoped that, with their offerings, his blessing will be spectacular⌠the better the offerings, the better the blessing, right?
No one believed that anything could ruin this festive day⌠but they quickly stood corrected as Connie suddenly announced some dreadful news to the public.
âThe offerings!!â Connie exclaims, panicking through Concordiaâs center. âTheyâre gone!â
At the sound of the young Wattanistâs horror, many erupted into a panic. The news got around surprisingly quickly, and soon, the entire Center of Concordia was filled with people from various villages and towns, all of them confused and concerned for the state of their holiday.
âWithout our offerings, the Great Conductor wonât give us his blessing!â Says a worried female Concordian.
âConnie and Cozette will know what to do, right?â A male Concordian suggests.
Amongst the troubled worrying, Connie and Cozette appear at the base of the Uni-Tree. Connie stands off to the side, a horrible expression of worry on her face, while Cozette stands upfront to do the talking.
âEveryone! Please!â Cozette announces, waving her hands through the air. âSettle down! I am certain we can find a way to fix this before tomorrow morning!â
âWhoever that thief is⌠ohh, they are NEVER going to hear the end of it from me!â Willma, Rumblaâs chief, suddenly blurts out. Her children seem to agree.
ââŚWho would even try to steal offerings to the Great Conductor?â Burnadette, Skorcheenâs Princess, asks herself.
Her lover, Chilliam, seems to be just as confused. ââŚI-I donât know, Burnadette⌠but Iâm sure weâll find them! Donât worry!â
Burnadette seems to be immediately calmed by Chilliamâs words⌠she looks to him lovingly, Chilliam does the same back. ââŚOh, my chillykinsâŚâ she says. A small chuckle then escapes Chilliam.
âHm⌠whoever stole the offerings seems to have left no trace of themselvesâŚâ Says Technikki. âThey may be quite hard to track down.â
âNot to worry!â A confident, peppy voice alerts from the crowd. Everyone turns to face the source of the noise.
Out from the massive group, four young children emerge⌠many had known this group for being able to only cause trouble, but maybe after their time with the Princess Peach and Starlow from Marioâs world⌠theyâve learned a lot from them, havenât they?
The group of four stands before the crowd, each of them baring strong confidence in their eyes.
âWeâll take care of it!â The girl in pink upfront confirmed to Technikki.
ââŚI remember you⌠IDLE, correct?â Technikki asks.
âAllow us to introduce ourselves!â Says the petit little girl. âIreen here!â Says Ireen, striking a pose.
âDulles!â Says Dulles, a lanky pre-teen boy in green, as he strikes his own pose.
âLoog!â Says Loog, a young boy in blue, spreading his arms outward from his sides.
âEllow!â Says Ellow, a stocky fellow in yellow, spreading his arms upward.
âThat makes usâŚâ Ireen proclaims as the four children line up, ready to strike their final pose.
âIDLE!!â The children all say in unison. Most seemed impressed, before the subject had quickly changed⌠there was a bigger conflict at hand, after all.
ââŚBut can you handle that?â Cozette asks.
âYou lot are quite youngâŚâ Says Willma.
âWeâve seen worse!â Ireen said confidently.
Cozette then recalls the time the continent had split⌠it seemed like it was decades ago, despite it only being three years since then⌠they had seen a lot, but that didnât mean they were ready to face a thief.
âIâm not sure if youâre readyâŚâ Says Cozette.
âIf they can ride a rocket to break through a barrier, then they can face a thief.â Technikki said, taking a prideful stance.
âWhat? Whenâ?â Cozette asked, immediately perplexedâŚ. No one had ever told her that, not even Connie.
âNever mind that, Cozette.â Says Tecknikki. âIâve seen what IDLE is capable of⌠let them do it.â She then gives the kids a soft smile.
Cozette seems conflicted⌠she knows Technikki, and trusts her word⌠but still, theyâre children. She then feels a small tap on her arm. She turns, and sees Connie looking up at her.
âMs. Cozette⌠they did a lot to help restore Concordia.â Says Connie. âLet them help⌠please?â
Connie was a face Cozette always had trouble saying no to, but she knew that she could trust Connie. Cozette sighed, and gave Connie a warm smile. She then turns to the IDLE kids.
âAlright, Iâll let you all help.â Says Cozette. âJust be sure to not cause any trouble.â
âAnd when you find the crook, bring 'em to me!â Says Willma. âIâll be sure to tell them what for! Their earsâll practically fall off!â
âYou show 'em, Ma!â Billdit cheers, while his sister, Maykit, claps softly for her mother.
âIt is settled, hm?â Tecknikki asks as she turns to the IDLE kids. âI am confident that our holiday traditions are in good hands.â
âWeâre counting on you!â Says Connie.
âYeah! We got a new mystery to solve!â Says Ireen, exited to help bring back Bonding Day. âCâmon, gang!â
The four then sped off to Desolatt, their homeland, with no hesitation. The crowd before the Uni-Tree watches them hurry off, hoping that their holiday is in good hands.
~~~
Ireenâs mother peacefully stands in her home, washing some dishes⌠as she worked though, she began to question her daughterâs whereaboutsâŚ
Last sheâd heard from her was when she left with her friends to go practice their IDLE performances, but she had yet to return⌠where had the little rascal gone now?
Suddenly, a loud banging sound is heard on the front door. âMooooom!â Ireen yells from outside. âIâm back! Let us in!â
âIâm coming, Ireen, Iâm coming!â Says Ireenâs mother as she dries her hands and heads to the door. âAnd whoâs this 'us'? Are you with your friends still?â
Ireenâs mother opens the door, and is immediately met with her daughter and her friends. They all looked as if they were in a hurry.
âWhatâs the rush?â The mother asks. âAnd where have you been all morning?â
âYou havenât heard?â Ireen asks, perplexed that her mother hadnât heard a single inkling of the Bonding Day thievery. âThe offerings under the Uni-Tree have been stolen!â
Ireenâs mother quickly goes into shock⌠her daughter was known to fib a little, but never about something so severe. âOh! Oh, dear!â She says. ââŚI had no ideaâŚâ
âAnd IDLEâs gonna save Bonding Day!â Loog butts in.
âAh, I see.â Says Ireenâs mother. âI get it⌠good luck to all of you. Iâve got your back, always.â
âThanks, mom.â Ireen says softly. She and then other IDLE kids enter Ireenâs home, and follow her to her room. Ireenâs mother watches, happy that her daughter has such good friends.
~~~
âOkay!â Ireen exclaims out, standing up on her bed while her friends look up to her. âAll we need to do is find the crook, and bring him to justice!â
ââŚButâŚâ Dulles interrupts. âWhere do we start?â
âThere arenât a lot of people in Concordia who stealâŚâ Ellow iterates.
ââŚThen who would be a crook?â Dulles asks.
Everyone goes into a deep silence⌠Ellow was right, not many in Concordia showed themselves to be thievesâŚ
ââŚWait!â Loog exclaims. âWhat about those goons? What was their group name again?â
âWhat⌠Comprehension Corps?â Dulles asks.
âNo, not that⌠Hypotension Corps?â Loog asks back.
ââŚThe Extension Corps, right?â Ellow asks the others.
âYeah! The Extension Corps!â Ireen exclaims, confidently pointing to Ellow.
âWhy them, though?â Dulles asks. âArenât they doing good now?â
âHeard they were working at Club DyodeâŚâ Loog pointed out.
âYou never know, guys!â Says Ireen. ââŚIt couldâve been some ruse! They couldâve been lying right under Mario and Luigiâs noses!â
ââŚThey kinda do seem like the kind to lieâŚâ Says Ellow.
âExactly!â Says Loog. ââŚAnd whoâs to say they didnât?â
âThatâs the spirit!â Says Ireen. âLetâs go see them and find out! They live in Slippenglide, right?â She asks.
ââŚYeahâŚâ Says Ellow. âOne of the members has a lab there. It was a up a hill.â
âOh, yeah⌠the labâŚâ Loog says with a tinge of dread.
ââŚI get youâre scared, Loog, but we gotta go!â Says Ireen. âBonding Day is in danger!â
ââŚYeah! Letâs go!â Says Loog, now invigorated and ready to head out to Slippenglide, bearing a determined smile.
âCâmon gang!â Says Ireen as she jumps from her bed, Ellow and Loog following close behind. Dulles then sighs as he realizes what theyâre doing.
ââŚOh, we gotta walk thereâŚâ Says Dulles, any ounce of excitement he had now gone.
âSlippenglide isnât too far from here!â Says Ireen. âItâs in the next sea after ours!â
âYeah⌠but thatâs still so farâŚâ Says Dulles.
âYouâll live.â Says Loog.
ââŚCome on, guys!â Ireen announces. âWeâve got crooks to catch!â
The four rush out of Ireenâs room and say goodbye to her mother as they passed⌠before they all explained where they were going to her. She then prepared little lunches for them and gave them all winter gear⌠Ireenâs mother was sweet like that.
IDLE then hurried to Slippenglide⌠with Dulles barely following behind.
~~~
It had been a long trip, much longer than Ireen had anticipated. Concordia is a vast, grand world⌠it shouldâve been anticipated, really.
As they approach Slippenglideâs center, they can hear Prince Chilliam and Princess Burnadette speaking to one anotherâŚ
ââŚI think itâs good to take our minds off the stress of the holiday trouble, hm?â Chilliam asks his lover. âAs long as youâre here with me, Iâm okay.â
âI just hope those kids can find who stole the offerings and bring them all back.â Burnadette says with a small, nervous chuckle.
As the IDLE kids came rushing toward the landâs center, the two royals spot them.
âOh! IDLE, right?â Prince Chilliam asks. âThose kids who volunteered to help save Bonding Day?â
Yep! Thatâs us!â Says Ireen, stopping in her tracks, the other members following suit. âWeâre here to interrogate the Extension Corps!â
âAh, I seeâŚâ Says Chilliam. âTheyâre suspects?â
âYes they are!â Says Ireen. âWeâre certain that theyâre the ones behind the holiday thievery!â
âAhh⌠youâre making good progress!â Says Burnadette. âGood luck!â
âThanks!â Says Ireen. âCome on, guys!â The four then hurry away, Chilliam and Burnadette watching them as they hurry off.
âThey seem nice.â Says Chilliam.
âAnd very courageous, passionate...â Says Burnadette.
ââŚOh, like you?â Chilliam asks, swooning his lover.
âOh! You stop it!â Says Burnadette, chuckling.
âItâs true!â Says Chilliam, pecking Burnadette on the cheek.
âŚRegardless of the situation, their love always shines through.
â
It didnât take too long for everyone to go uphill. Ireen had taken the lead with Loog following behind. Dulles was the farthest away, tired of walking. Ellow was just in front of him, helping him along.
As they all finally reach the top of the hill, Dulles is barely trailing behind. ââŚAre we⌠there yet?â He asks as he reaches the others.
âThere is no way you are that tired.â Loog chastises.
âBut I amâŚâ Says Dulles, practically gasping for air.
âIâm shorter than you and got all the way up here without a hitch!â Says Loog.
âQuit yapping!â Ireen exclaims. She then turns toward the building in front of them.
ââŚOhh, yeah⌠I forgot we were coming here for a secâŚâ Says Loog, that same tinge of dread from before coating his tone as he gazes upon Tenâs lab.
None of them couldnât help but simply smell the narcissism that came off the place, for the lab had been built in Tenâs visage⌠whatever was in there was certainly the stolen offerings.
âWe just go in, and get out.â Says Ireen. âItâs not that hard. Come on.â
The four then step up hill toward the labâs entrance, but as they approach, theyâre all suddenly halted⌠two small, round little creatures with long arms had blocked their path. The goonsâ beady eyes and large smiles staring back at them.
âAhh!â Dulles exclaims.
ââŚWhatâre those!?â Ellow asks, sight panic ringing in his voice.
âThey all mustâve got little minions to help 'em!â Loog suggests to the others.
ââŚBut what can we do it about it?â Dulles asks.
âWe beat 'em up!â Says Ireen. âMy mom didnât raise a coward!â
Ireen, with no hesitation, lunges for the one of the goons. She attaches herself to its head and holds herself up as it tries to pry her off, scurrying around like a headless chicken.
The creatureâs struggling causes it to run into an icy wall, immediately knocking it unconscious. Ireen lands on her bottom as the goon falls. She then gets up to her feet and stands over it.
âHah!â Ireen bellows. âHowâd you like them apples?â
As Ireen celebrates her victory, she hears the sound of collective screaming from the other IDLE members. She turns back, and spots the others cowering before the other little minion.
âIreen!â Loog exclaimed. âWeâre in a bit of a pickle over here!â
Ireen immediately rushes to other goon, and punches it square in the back, knocking it down to the floor. It was quickly dizzied as it fell, not daring to get back up.
The other IDLE members get to their feet and quickly back away from the minion, stepping to Ireen, each of them baring a terrified expression.
ââŚUgh, that was awfulâŚâ Says Loog, sighing.
âMaybe you all could learn a thing or two from me about fighting.â Says Ireen. ââŚI still need to teach you all.â
Ellow then turns back to face the lab, spotting something hung up on the door frame. ââŚHey, whatâs that?â He asks. The others turn back as well, also spotting the note.
They all scurry to the door, and Dulles retrieves the small note. The others look up at it, perplexed.
ââŚ'Out Fishing'?â Ireen questions. âThose dorks are out fishing?â
âHey!â A raspy voice exclaims from behind the group. âWhat is the meaning of this!?â
The four look back, and are quickly caught off guard⌠the suspects they were looking for had returned home. All three of the Corps members looked appalled at the sight of IDLE. They also noticed how Shun was carrying some kind of makeshift cooler⌠they were, in fact, out fishing.
âWhat business do you have here?â Ten asks, sneering at the kids. âYouâre trying to steal from us, arenât you?â
âThatâs what we should be asking you!â Says Ireen. âWhat have you done with the offerings under the Uni-Tree!?â
âOh, how dare you accuse us of theft?â Ten questions, even more appalled than he already was at IDLEâs presence. âWe havenât laid a scratch on those!â
âAll weâve been doing is catching fish!â Says Ecks. âWhatâs so wrong about three humble men getting their weekly food supply?â
ââŚThat doesnât matter! Quit hiding it!â Says Loog. âShow us where you keep the offerings!â
âThe only offerings we have are our own offerings hidden inside the lab!â Ecks retorts.
âSince youâre so defensive, show us!â Says Ireen. âThen maybe will believe you! Maybe!â
âFine! Fine, weâll show you!â Says Ecks, practically yelling at the children. He then hovers over toward the entrance with everyone else following suit⌠until theyâre halted by a sudden shrill.
âAGHHHH!!â Ecks exclaims from inside. âWhat happened in here!?â
The others quickly rush inside and spot the mess that had occurred⌠papers were strewn everywhere. Desks and cabinets had been thrown to floor⌠and the painting of Ten had been ripped off the wall, revealing a hole in the wall, which had nothing inside it.
âAhhh!!â Ten exclaims. âMy painting!â
âTHATâS what youâre worried about!?â Ecks exclaims. âOur offerings are gone!â
ââŚAt least we still got our fish. We can use some of those as our offerings.â Says Shun, before a minion from before grabs onto the cooler and snatches it out of his hand. The little minion then runs off with the stolen fish.
âOhh, you just HAD to say something, didnât you!?â Ecks chastises. âNot only are our offerings gone, so is our food! Great!â
ââŚW-what about my paintingâŚ?â Ten asks, tears forming in his eyes.
âNO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR PAINTING!!!â Ecks exclaims.
As the three continue to bicker, the group of four reaches their first road block⌠the Extension Corps werenât expecting this at all. All they wanted to do was just get food and come home⌠maybe they truly had turned over a new leafâŚ
âAlright, we get it!â Says Ireen, quickly causing the Extension Corps to silence themselves. âWe were wrong, you didnât steal the offerings. Youâre in the clear.â
ââŚThatâs something good, at least.â Says Ecks. âCan you lot leave now? I donât think the man-child here wants anyone around.â He turns to Ten.
Ten was now on his knees, barely able to formulate words. ââŚMy paintingâŚâ He sobs.
ââŚSure, weâll leave you to it.â Says Ireen. She then turns to others, appearing disappointed. âCome on.â
Ireen and the rest of the group awkwardly leave, leaving Ten to mope over the painting. As they leave, they can faintly hear Ecks bickering with the other Extension Corps members.
~~~
The IDLE Crew walks into Desolatt, now on their way back to Ireenâs home. They had no leads⌠they would if they knew who those little goons belonged to, but none of them knew.
All they could do now was regroup, and hope something new gives them a new leadâŚ
ââŚI really thought we had itâŚâ Says Ireen with a disappointed tone.
âIâm sure weâll find a new lead soon, Ireen.â Says Ellow, trying to lift her spirits.
âBut the sunâs past its peak.â Says Ireen. âWhat if we donât have time to find the crook?â
âWe will.â Says Ellow. âGive it time.â
Ireen puts her head down and quietly mutters. ââŚOkayâŚâ before going silent again.
Silence engulfed the four of them, not sure of what to say or do that could possibly brighten the moodâŚ
ââŚHey! Little guys!?â A gruff voice calls from ahead. âWhereâd you all go!?â
The four look up, and quickly spot the source of the call. A bulky figure stood not too far from them. He had long arms and big sack of rocks on his back⌠he almost looked familiarâŚ
âHey! Maybe he can help us!â Says Ireen. She then runs forward with the others following her.
ââŚWhereâd they goâŚ?â The guy asks, before IDLE approaches.
âHey! Whatâre you doing here?â Ireen asks as she approaches the stranger.
The guy turns around and spots the four. He immediately clasps his hands together as if he were begging. âPlease! Ya gotta help me!â He says. âMy little guys are missing!â
âYour⌠little guys?â Ireen asks. âWhat do they look like?â
âUhâ! Theyâre round, and got long arms!â Says the guy. âYou seen anything like 'em?â
The four are quickly overrun with shock⌠round little fellas with long arms
âDid they have big, wide grins?â Loog asks.
âYeah!â Says the guy. âYouâve seen 'em somewhere?â
The four go silent and huddle together. They whisper, making sure the mystery guy canât hear them. The big guy canât help but wonder what could possibly be more important than his guys.
The four then turn back to face the guy, Ireen looking at him square in the eyes. âSorry, what was your name?â
ââŚThe nameâs Gorumbla. Why?â Gorumbla asks, confused.
âWe gotta check something real quick. Weâll be back with more word on your guys.â Says Ireen. âWait here!â
The four then run off, leaving the saddened Gorumbla completely on his own⌠they had to tell Willma and Cozette.
~~~
Willma and Cozette stood before the Uni-Tree, discussing the holidayâs outcome⌠IDLE had yet to give either of them their intel on the crook, and the night was slowly approaching.
The sooner night were to arrive, the less time they had to find the stolen offerings by morning.
âIâm certain theyâve found a lead by now.â Says Cozette.
Willma nods. âA crook is always found, no matter how well theyâve covered their tracks!â She says. âYou ever heard of forensic tests?â
ââŚI still canât fathom that this happened at allâŚâ Says Cozette.
âWell, thieves do bad things, Cozette.â Says Willma. âYou gotta live with it.â
Cozette silently nods as she hears a voice calling out for her and Willma.
âCozette! Willma!â Ireen exclaims as she and the rest of IDLE approaches.
âOh! IDLE!â Cozette exclaims, relieved. âHave you found anything?â
âI think weâve got a good lead!â Says Ireen.
âWe were in Slippenglide looking for our first suspects right? We found minions of the crook!â Says Loog.
ââŚIt honestly suckedâŚâ Says Dulles. âThe minions tried to attack us.â
âWe thought the Extension Corps were the crooks, but they proved themselves to be innocent.â Ireen points out. âBut we found the true crook!â
âWho is it?â Willma asks, putting her hands to her hips.
âA big guy named Gorumbla.â Says Ellow. âHe was out looking for his 'little guys' andâ!â
âWHAT!?â Willma exclaims, her voice practically shaking the Uni-Tree. âAnd I thought that boy had learned his lesson⌠lying to a family member, who does that!?â
The four IDLE members were taken aback⌠Gorumbla is part of Willmaâs familyâŚ?
Among IDLEâs shock, Cozette wanted to tell Willma to relax⌠but she didnât. Sheâd be deeply disgruntled and disappointed too if someone close to her did such a thing.
âWhere is he? Show me where he is!â Says Willma. âIâm gonna talk his ears off!â
âWe found him in Desolatt and told him to wait there!â Says Ireen. âHe should still be there!â
âThatâs a long wayâŚâ Says Cozette. âAre you sure you want to walk that far, Willma?â
âI may be old, but I can handle a good long walk.â Says Willma. âTake me to Gorumbla!â
âWith pleasure, Willma!â Says Ireen. âCome on!â
The six of them head to Desolatt, IDLE leading the way. Willma was almost walking ahead of them, her pure and unbridled fury fueling her.
~~~
Gorumbla sat, waiting for the kids to return. He moped alone, wondering where his guys had went and why they seemed to completely absent⌠he had looked just about everywhere, but they were nowhere to be found, not even near his homeâŚ
âGORUMBLA!!!â A bellowing voice shrieked from afar and into the heavens. âYouâve got a lot of explaining to do, young man!â
Gorumbla seemed to immediately recognize the source of the shrill, he turned back and spotted the kids from before, but that wasnât all. He spotted a lady in blue who he barely knew, and another lady in greenâŚ
ââŚAuntieâŚ?â Gorumbla asks as the group of six approach. âWhat happened?â
âYou know what you did, Gorumbla!â Says Willma, fuming. âDonât you try and hide it!â
âHuh?â Gorumbla asks, taken aback. âI didnât do anythin', Auntie! I swear!â
âExcuses!â Says Willma.
âWe know you stole the offerings!â Says Ireen.
âI didnât steal anythin'! I donât steal anymore!â Says Gorumbla, now standing up to defend himself. âYou gotta believe me, Auntie!â
âThen why did we spot your 'little guys' in Slippenglide?â Loog questions. âThey stole the Extension Corps' offerings while they were out!â
âHuh? Slippenglide!?â Gorumbla asks in a panic. âThatâs where theyâve all been? Why didnât ya tell me that sooner?â
âBecause youâre a crook, thatâs why!â Says Ireen.
âNow, show us where youâve kept those offerings!â Willma demands.
âI donât know! I didnât take 'em!â Says Gorumbla, voice breaking slightly.
âQuit lyin', you fibber!â Says Willma. ââŚTheyâre hidden at your house, arenât they?â
âNo! I donât know where they are!â Says Gorumbla, now fallen to his knees.
âAnd yet you keep lyingâŚâ Says Willma. âIâll take us to Rumbla, I know where his house is.â
âIâll quickly grab Connie⌠we must make sure every offering is still there.â Says Cozette. âShe had kept track of everything. Iâm certain she will know if something is missing.â
âItâs settled then!â Says Willma. She then turns to IDLE and Gorumbla. âCome on, all of you.â
Willma leads everyone to Rumbla while Cozette leaves to find Connie. As they walk, Gorumbla appears deeply saddenedâŚ
~~~
Everyone stood by Gorumblaâs home, awaiting Cozetteâs return with Connie. Willmaâs children, Billdit and Maykit, stood off to the side. They had spotted their motherâs return, and suggested they come along, even if Willma didnât fully want them to.
After a moment of complete silence, someone eventually approaches.
âIâm back! I have brought Connie!â Says Cozette, hurrying to the group with Connie in tow.
âWe wonât be waiting any longer now.â Says Willma. âYou do what you have to, Connie.â
Connie silently nods and steps up to Gorumblaâs small home and peeks inside⌠a small gasp is heard from her as she takes a look inside
âJust about every offering is in these bags!â Says Connie. ââŚExcept any snacksâŚâ
Everyone outside is taken aback⌠not only had Gorumbla stolen the offerings⌠had he been eating food that wasnât meant for him?
âI canât believe you!â Says Willma. âHow could you stoop this low!?â
âI didnât do it, Auntie!â Says Gorumbla. âThatâs someone elseâs problem, not me!â
âHow can I believe you when the evidence is right here, in your home?â Willma asks.
ââŚYou sure, Ma?â Billdit asks. âHe sure doesnât sound like heâs fibbing.â
âMother⌠you may believe Gorumblaâs to blame,â Maykit begins. âBut maybe this is all someone elseâs game?â
âThe evidence is right here!â Says Willma. âIâm not believing an ounce of his lies unless Iâm proven wrong!â
Gorumbla immediately looks disgruntled, as if he could just run away and cry⌠and yet only Billdit and Maykit seemed to notice.
âWe can just collect all of the bags and set the offerings up back at the Uni-Tree.â Says Cozette.
âBut what about Gorumbla?â Ireen asks.
âIâll need some time to think on thatâŚâ Says Willma. Gorumbla recoils at the thought of what his punishment could possibly be.
Ireen then puts her hands to her hips and looks to the other IDLE members. âMystery solved, gang!â She says. âBonding Day is saved!â
The four children cheer and pat themselves on the back. Cozette then chuckles a bit. âAnd itâs thanks to all of you.â She says. âAll we need to do is get these offerings back under the Uni-Tree.â
IDLE and the two Wattanists then begin preparing to bring the offerings back to the Uni-Tree. As they begin to head out, Ireen turns her head⌠and spots something.
A figure was sitting among a small pile of unused boulders, their head peaking just over the small pile. Ireen could barely see the figure before it fled, its only apparent feature being the top of its head⌠a long ponytail?
âŚIreen then couldnât shake the feeling that a new part of this puzzle has begun to surface.
~~~
Back at the Uni-Tree, everyone sets their offerings back where they were. Connie and Cozette kept a close eye on everything, Connie especially. With the sun nearing the horizon, everything had to be ready.
As three of the four IDLE members set everything up, Ireen sneaks by Loogâs shoulder.
âHey.â Ireen calls in a whisper. âHey!â
âHuh? Whatâs it to you, Ireen?â Loog questions. âWe gotta get the offerings ready! The sunâs about to set!â
ââŚI think we mightâve gotten the wrong guy.â Says Ireen.
ââŚWhat.â Says Loog, looking to Ireen like the most inane concoction of words had just escaped her vocal chords.
âWe got the wrong guy, Loog!â Says Ireen.
âWhatâd she say?â Dulles asks, now peering toward the others.
âWe gotâ!â Ireen tries to say, before Ellow peers toward the other three.
âHuh?â Ellow asks.
âWe got, the wrong, guy!!â Says Ireen, fed up with others.
âWhat do you mean?â Loog asks. âThose fellas in Slippenglide were Gorumblaâs minions! The minions who were stealing the offerings! What do you mean we caught the wrong crook?â
âI saw someone in Rumbla stalking us from a pile of rubble,â Ireen begins. âAnd now I canât help but think we missed something.â
ââŚYou sure?â Loog asks, uncertain.
âIâm sure, sure, Loog.â Says Ireen. âWe missed something⌠and Iâm sure it had to do with the weird guy I spotted in Rumbla.â
The other IDLE members then question their judgement⌠maybe they were wrong. Ireen wouldnât make up something this dire and unprecedented.
âBut⌠how we will catch them?â Ellow asks.
âI can help you all catch that crook.â Says a voice from beside the four.
The four look to their right and spot Technikki, who took a proud stance before them. She then straightens and places her goggles back down.
âReally?â Ireen asks.
âOf course.â Says Technikki. âWe worked together when the continent was split. You helped me with the Technikki Engine, Iâll help you back.â
âWhatever you got in mind, weâre sure itâs great!â Says Ireen. She then turns to the others. âRight, guys?â
âYeah! Of course!â Loog exclaims, throwing a fist into the air.
âYeah!â Dulles agrees. âTechnikki makes the best stuff!â
ââŚI remember that engineâŚâ Says Ellow. âIt was so cool!â
A quiet chuckle escapes Technikki as she averts her gaze from IDLE. She looks back back up, a small yet bright smile crossing her lips.
âThank you.â Technikki says softly. âFollow me to Merrygo, weâll work everything out there.â
As everyone else prepares for Bonding Day morning, IDLE sneaks off with Technikki up front⌠they were fixing this mistake, one way or another.
~~~
The sun had set over Concordia, revealing a starlit sky above the continent. Despite Merrygoâs distance, the Uni-Tree still shone bright.
IDLE worked along with Technikki, who had already begun making blueprints and plans for what she wished to make alongside them⌠she was deemed a quick thinker by many, being up to par with another genius of MerrygoâŚ
âI keep my equipment and such in their own drawers. You should be able to find everything, I made a list.â Says Technikki, handing a small piece of paper to Ireen. âTry not to misplace anything.â
Ireen takes a good, hard look at the list Technikki handed her. ââŚFishing net, sensors⌠you got it!â She says. âHey! Help me find what we need!â She hurries to the others, excited to help out.
Everyone finds what they need with ease. As they all placed the needed materials on Technikkiâs work desk, she immediately began tinkering with it. She wasted no time in putting her work together.
It wasnât long before Technikkiâs invention was complete⌠a cannon-like contraption with a sensor connected to it by a few thin cords. Within the cannon laid the old fishnet.
âIf they step on the panel, the net will shoot out from the cannon and encase them inside it, rendering them caught with this.â Says Tecknikki as she pulls out a fake offering wrapped in tissue paper.
ââŚDoes it have a name yet?â Loog asks, a tint of curiosity in his tone.
Technikki lets out a small chuckle as she adjusts her goggles, a proud smile on her face. âThe Technikki Trap.â She says. âIâm certain itâll do us wonders.â
The five of them exit the workshop, standing behind it to where theyâre barely visible. Technikki holds onto the trap as she turns to IDLE. âWhich one of you would like to place down the bait and panel?â
âI do! Iâll do it!â Says Dulles, bringing a hand up⌠itâd be the least difficult thing he had done the entire day.
Technikki nods. âPlace these at the end of the maze.â She instructs as she hands Dulles the fake offering and sensor panel. âItâll be our crookâs 'little reward.'â
Dulles gives Technikki a sharp nod as he hurries over to mazeâs end and gently places their bait down with the senor next to it. He hurries back, a wide and proud smile crossing his lips.
âThe next step, once the crook steps on the panel, is shooting them with the net.â Says Technikki.
âI have good aim! I can do that!â Says Loog. âIâve practiced with a dart board.â
âAh, I see.â Says Technikki. âYouâre perfect for this then. Once the panel is pressed, a buzzer will go off from inside the workshop. Once that buzzer goes off, you fire.â
Technikki steps inside her workshop for a moment and comes back out with the cannon, the net already loaded inside. She gently lets Loog hold onto it, and he quickly gets into position, already prepared to take his shot.
âAlright! I can do that!â Says Loog, determined to assist in catching the thief.
âNow we just have to wait⌠Iâm 95% sure that our target is here with us.â Says Technikki as she creeps down onto one knee, as if trying to stay hidden.
âHow do you know?â Ireen asks.
âA genius intuition, my friend.â Says Technikki. âNever second guess Technikki the genius!â
The five of them then wait for what felt like hours. While the kids are practically falling asleep, Technikki remains wide awake, her unseeable eyes looking outward into Merrygo, facing toward the maze.
After awhile, the buzzer eventually goes off. The kids jump in their spots while Technikki whips her head around to Loog.
âFire!â Technikki demands in a whisper.
Loog wastes no time in aiming for the crook, who knew not of what was coming to him, and aims directly for the man and shoots.
The net flies at tremendous speeds toward the unsuspecting thief and wraps around his entire body, rendering him trapped as he falls to floor.
IDLE attempts to celebrate the capture amongst themselves, for Technikki quietly stops them⌠they couldnât make too much noise. Technikki steps up with IDLE in tow, up to the man who sought to ruin their holiday.
âHm.â Technikki hums, looking upon the man trapped in the net. Oddly enough, he wasnât trying to escape, as if expecting that this was his fate. She then turns to Ireen. âIs this the man you saw?â
âHuh⌠I couldnât make out everything about him, but I recognize that hair.â Says Ireen.
The manâs long and green hair stuck out upward, but that wasnât his most defining feature. His long, bushy eyebrows made him stand out. He was also extremely lanky, taller than any Concordian had likely ever known.
The thief nods nonchalantly. âYeah, yeah, okay.â He says. âYou caught me. Oh, no, what ever wil I doooo?â
ââŚHeâs so nonchalant. Ew.â Says Loog.
A small laugh escapes the crookâs lips, as if he enjoyed the displeasure he gave others. The others sneered at him, even Technikki, who curled her lips in distaste.
ââŚSo nonchalant for someone who got caughtâŚâ Says Technikki, adjusting her goggles.
âHah!â The crook bellowed. ââŚAs if 'ol Hermit ainât two steps ahead of you, genius?â
A disgruntled frown appears on Technikkiâs face. How dare he insult her genius? But not only that⌠did he truly think ahead?
Technikki turns back to the others, who seemed just as disgruntled and confused as her. âAll of you, head back to the Uni-Tree. Iâll take care of 'ol Hermit.â She says with a strong distasted tone.
Ireen whips her head back to the others. âCome on! We donât have any time to waste!â
Ireen runs ahead with the others following close behind. As they all rush to the Uni-Tree, a sickening chortle escapes Hermitâs throat.
ââŚWhat are you laughing at?â Technikki asks, clearly already in an ugly mood.
Hermit didnât seem to stop chuckling, which only upset Technikki further. His laugh was like nails on a chalkboard, a cat throwing up onto a carpet⌠it made her sick.
âI donât know what made you think you do anything about any of this.â Says Hermit. âYour hope makes me sick.â
âAnd hearing your voice makes me sick.â Technikki puts out bluntly.
ââŚYou wanna know why I did it, donât you?â Hermit asks, a sickening smile slithering upon his lips⌠the smile reached past his eyes, and looked completely unnatural for a Concordian face.
A quiet sneer escapes Technikki. âAs if Iâd touch you with a thirty-nine and a half foot pole.â She says. ââŚBut my curiosity beckonsâŚâ
âTake me outta this net, and bring me to the Uni-Tree.â Says Hermit. âThat silly curiosity of yours wonât regret it.â
Technikki, in her distaste, lets out a small scoff. Hermit chuckles again at the sound, prompting her to go dead silent as she unwraps him out of the net. She recoils as she restrains him with her arm⌠had he bathed at all recently?
âYou ainât gotta hold onto me, darlin'.â Says Hermit. âI wonât do anything.â
Technikki shoved Hermit away, allowing him to stand on his own. The two then set out to Uni-Tree. Technikki would wash off and grab another set of clothes, but there simply wasnât any time.
If anything was to happen at the Uni-Tree, she wanted to be there to stop it⌠if possible.
~~~
IDLE hurried to the Uni-Tree as quickly as they could. Ireen took the lead with Loog just behind her. Ellow and Dulles slacked a bit, Dulles being the furthest behind.
âStop⌠running⌠so fast!â Dulles yells, out of breath.
âHow about you run faster?â Loog questions back at him.
âStop! We donât have time for all that!â Says Ireen. âWe gotta get to theâ!â
As the four of them rushed into Concordiaâs center, just before the Uni-Tree⌠they were met with utter turmoil.
More of Gorumblaâs little minions were scattering about, collecting any offering they could grab. Many Concordians were also around, trying to stop them, but to no avail.
IDLE watched the minions hurry to the edge of the center, and carelessly hurl the offerings into the sea.
All of them were completely taken aback⌠what did Hermit even gain by going through all this trouble for a single holiday?
Ireen then turns to the others. As if she were a drill sergeant, she stood straight up. âWe gotta help save the offerings!â She says. âLoog, you come with me. Dulles and Ellow, youâre together! Letâs go!â
With no hesitation, Ireen runs ahead with Loog hesitatingly following behind. Dulles reaches out for them, desperate to understand what they could do.
âIreen! Wait!â Dulles calls with a reached out hand, but to no avail. He sighs. âWhatâre we gonna do?â
Dulles then feels someone lay a hand on his shoulder. He turns back and sees Ellow, giving him a stern look.
âWe do what we can, Dulles.â Says Ellow. âWe can try and snatch the offerings from them while Ireen and Loog beat them up.â
Dulles seems hesitant, not wanting to go head first into minions he canât directly fight⌠but quickly reconsiders his judgement and nods to his friend. He wasnât going to let his cowardice get in the way of saving Bonding Day.
ââŚOkay⌠letâs do it!â Says Dulles, throwing a balled fist into the air.
The two quickly run off in the opposite direction of Ireen and Loog, who were already trying to take a handful of the minions out.
Ireen threw any attacks she could at them. Loog attempted as well, but kept messing up. Ireen had to regularly make sure he was up to speed, causing other minions to take advantage of that and gather more offerings to throw away.
Dulles and Ellow tried their hardest, but they werenât getting much of anywhere. Despite his boost in morale, Dulles could barely lay an inch on any of the minions. Ellow was the same. They kept getting overpowered but the little beasts.
Over time, the odds of IDLEâs win seemed to lower. More offerings were lost to the ocean depths. Eventually, every offering that had just been placed back down was lost.
The little minions cheered with delight, as if theyâd be getting some reward for their wrongdoing. IDLE and every other Concordian there sulked, saddened by their loss.
IDLE eventually regrouped, shoulders slouched and faces droopy. They all looked to each other, completely lost for words⌠before Ireen began to grumble, which slowly descended into a sharp grunt.
âUgh!! Why did this have to happen!?â Ireen exclaims. âIf it wasnât for that stupid crookâŚâ
ââŚOh, dearâŚâ Says an approaching voice. âIâm so sorryâŚâ
IDLE turns and spots Cozette walking along with Connie and Willma. The Wattanists seemed deeply saddened, while Willma simply looked disgruntled.
âWe all tried as best we could, butâŚâ Cozette begins. âOh, if only we had more help⌠or Willma.â
âIf I had gotten here earlier, they wouldâve been whacked off the face of the planet!â Says Willma. âHeck, Iâd go through the seas if I had to! Those offerings would still be here if Gorumbla wasnât holding me up.â
Connie stayed silent, not really wanting to speak. But at the name of Gorumbla, Ireen quickly stepped forward. âGorumblaâs not the thief!â
The Wattanists and chief look up to IDLE in confusion, Willma being the most perplexed. âWhat do you mean? All of the evidence pointed to him, didnât it?â Willma questioned.
ââŚIt seemed that way, but he was framed!â Says Ireen. âAnd Technikki and all of us found out who truly did it!â
ââŚWho?â Cozette asked.
âIDLE!â Technikki exclaims from not too far behind. âI do not mean to interlude, butâŚâ
Technikki steps up to the others, Hermit standing close next to her. The crook had but a disgustingly smug look on his face.
âNow whoâs this young man?â Willma asks.
âHis name is Hermit.â Says Technikki. âHeâll give us all the information we want⌠but do not fall for his 'flattery'. Itâs sickening.â
Hermit sneers at the group of people before him. âYouâre a grand little parade, arenât you?â He asks.
âOh, just cut to chase!â Says Ireen. âWhyâd you steal the offerings?â
âAnd leave no detail out!â Loog points out.
âIâll put it simply so you colorful bunch understand.â Says Hermit before he leans into the others. ââŚYou think I like the holidays? You think I think theyâre cute? No, I donât think theyâre cute. All the clatter about what offerings to get, all the cheer⌠it makes me sick.â
The others sneer at the man. Even Cozette and Connie, who bore mildly puzzled expressions. No one is able to say anything as Hermit continues to ramble.
âIâd rather be in complete silence within my home, but noooo.â Says Hermit, dramatically flicking his hands around. âI have to listen to you lot yap about it all constantly.â
The others want to retort before Hermit cuts them all off, waving a hand in front of them.
âIf I get rid of the offerings, then thereâs no cheer. And it couldnât just be me who did all the work⌠those little fellas from Rumbla I stumbled upon are real easy to trick with food.â Says Hermit. âAll of this scheming⌠for what is Bonding Day without offerings to give to the Great Conductor?â He says that last part in a gleeful tone.
ââŚIf theyâre no offerings to giveâŚâ Ireen explains, before going quiet.
âThen the good 'ol Great Conductor doesnât give you any blessing!â Says Hermit, a wide grin on his face.
As Hermit finishes his ramble, the Wattanists appear confused⌠why?
ââŚWhat do you mean?â Cozette asks, perplexed by Hermitâs logic.
Hermit looks back at Cozette, just as perplexed as her. âYou should know what I mean. Youâre a Wattanist, ainât you?â He asks. âYou know all about this holiday! You donât give to the Great Conductor, he doesnât give back!â
ââŚNo, that isnât⌠that isnât what thatâ!â Cozette tries to explain, before Ireen cuts her off, now pointing to Hermit.
âYouâve got some nerve to do all this!â Says Ireen. âAnd all because you hate holiday clatter?â
âI did explain that, yes?â Hermit asks, still smiling.
âYou⌠you ruined Bonding Day!!â Ireen exclaims.
ââŚRuined?â An unknown voice questions from nowhere.
Everyone turns around, looking for the voice, but no one was around⌠the voice had sounded like it had came from the Uni-Tree itselfâŚ
A bright golden glow then emanates from the behind the group. They all cover their eyes until the light finally clears⌠and before them, just in front of the Uni-Tree⌠he stood.
The Great Conductor. The overseer of Concordia, and all of its people. He hovered in the air before everyone that stood on the ground. Directly next to him was his assistant, and the Mario Bros. former partner, Snoutlet.
âT-the Great Conductor!â Says Cozette. âYouâre a tad earlyâŚâ
âI know, Cozette.â The Great Conductor says gently. âBut I feel I needed to clear up some thingsâŚâ
âWe arenât getting the blessing, are we?â Loog asks, disappointed.
âWhy dâya ask, Loog?â Snoutlet asks.
âWithout any offeringsâŚâ Loog tries to explain, before Dulles interjects.
âWe donât get our blessing!â Says Dulles.
âWe give to you, you give back to us, right?â Ellow asks.
âHermit ruined Bonding Day!â Ireen exclaims, pointing to Hermit again.
ââŚI feel like some of you must know thisâŚâ Says the Great Conductor. âYou think Bonding Dayâs all about the offerings?â
Most of the crowd seems confused, even Hermit, oddly enough. The only ones who arenât being Cozette and Connie. Cozette turns to the others, willing to explain.
âBonding Day isnât just about the offerings we giveâŚâ Cozette begins. A warm smile then appears on her face. âItâs about sharing the Bonds we have others.â
ââŚButâ but why were you and Connie so quick to go after the offerings?â Ireen asks.
ââŚEven if itâs not all about the offerings, they are still important.â Says Connie. âTheyâre simply just gifts meant to give thanks to the Great Conductor.â
âBut I donât need them.â Says the Great Conductor. âGifts are always nice⌠but what truly matters to me is the presence of Concordiaâs people.â
âWe care about the Bonds we share with ya!â Says Snoutlet. âYou bein' here is already enough.â
ââŚThen⌠did we just go on this wild gift chase for nothing?â Loog asks, visibly disgruntled that he and the others time mightâve been wasted.
âNo! No, of course not.â Says the Great Conductor.
âEven if the offerings are gone, we still appreciate you lot goin' outta your way for us!â Says Snoutlet. âAll of ya did absolutely terrific!â
All of IDLEâs spirits seemed to be lifted at that. ââŚDid a deity just tell us we did terrific?â Dulles asks.
ââŚAnd on our first true case since the continent split!?â Ireen questions. âWe rock!!â
IDLE then rejoices at their accomplishment, before Snoutlet approaches, appearing flattered. âYou ainât gotta call me a deity. Ya know me!â They say. âJust call me a friend, 'kay?â
All of them nod, still reeling from their accomplishment. âSure! But we do still appreciate it though!â Says Ireen.
âNo problem, pal!â Says Snoutlet. They then turn to face the Great Conductor. ââŚYâknow, Cozette did say weâre here kinda early⌠ya think that maybeâŚ?â
The Great Conductor seems to ponder something no one else knew. He then looks back down to Snoutlet with knowing eyes.
ââŚAh, why not? Iâm already here.â Says the Great Conductor. He then turns to the crowd that had begun to form around the Uni-TreeâŚ
âPeople of Concordia!â The Great Conductor announces, his voice booming. âI present unto you⌠my yearly blessing!â
The crowd erupts into cheers and cries of joy⌠the moment they had all waited for had finally come to pass⌠what no one had noticed was that Hermit had stepped away, completely isolated from the crowd.
The Great Conductor shuts his eyes, and a bright golden aura emanates around him. The aura spreads outward beyond the continents borders⌠so bright, you could see it from space.
Everyone looks away as the light spreads⌠until it eventually fades, and the crowd looks up in silence⌠as everyone looks upon what stood before them, they couldnât help but be in absolute disbelief, gasping at what they sawâŚ
ââŚM-Mario? Luigi?â Connie stammers, small tears forming in her eyes.
Before the Uni-Tree stood the two brothers, the saviors of Concordia. Along with the former members of IDLE, Princess Peach and Starlow. And off to the side was the old King of Offandon, Bowser, paired with his son.
The crowd before the Uni-Tree erupted into a colossal bunch of cheers. Connie then rushed over to the Bros., practically crying, as Mario hugged her back. Snoutlet also joined in, hovering right beside Luigi and immediately making their presence known.
Bowserâs son was soon met with his dear Concordian friend Buddy, along with a new friend of his, the sailor boy Arc. Bowser Jr. and Buddy were happy to reunite, despite Jr.âs doubts of Arc. After getting to know Arc, however⌠Junior made a new friend that day.
Bowser even joined the fray, getting to meet Arcâs father⌠a swell man, he is. The Koopa King and old sailor got along oddly well.
Eventually, Willma had left and returned with Gorumbla, who had been apologized to upon arrival. Even he got to meet the Bros.
âŚAnd IDLE couldnât be happier to see their old members. It had been only about three years since theyâd seen them last, but to the kids, it had been forever.
âPrincess Peach! Starlow!â Says Ireen. âItâs been so long!â
âLong time no see!â Says Loog.
âWe missed you!â Says Dulles.
âHowâs the Mushroom Kingdom been?â Ellow asks.
âOh! Weâre so glad to see you as well!â Says Princess Peach. âEverythingâs been fine back at home.â
âHowâve you all been?â Starlow asks. âAny more trouble popping up?â
âOh, you shouldâve seen what weâve been thorough today!â Says Ireen.
The four couldnât help but spill what had happened. All the trials, close calls, and triumphs⌠the Princess and Star Sprite couldnât have been more proud of IDLE. All of them had improved so much since they had last met.
They had come so far⌠they would go far, Princess Peach and Starlow were certain.
The Great Conductor looked on, glad he was able to get the Mushroom Kingdom residents on board for this trip⌠he wouldâve done this earlier, but he knew the Bros. may be busy⌠and he wasnât charged up on power anyway. He had just enough power to bring them back for a time.
Regardless of the circumstances, he was glad⌠glad that IDLE wanted to come together to help. Thankful that everyone involved in catching the offerings was willing to lend a hand to the kids⌠everything that had transpired almost brought a tear to his eye.
âŚIt was the greatest Bonding Day he had ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
~~~
Bonding Day had just passed. The Mario Bros. and their friends had just been sent home. The holiday season was coming to close.
Out of the entirety of Concordia, one place was the most silent among the dwindling holiday bustle⌠Conductor Croft, home of the Great Conductor.
Snoutlet hovered through the flowery fields, quietly patrolling it while the Great Conductor was away. As they looked about, they heard the rustling of a nearby bush.
âHuh?â Snoutlet yelps, turning to face the source of the sound. âWhoâs there!? Donât make me go ham on ya!â
As they look around, they spot no person⌠they move in closer, and spot a note⌠a note to Great ConductorâŚ
âHuhâŚâ Says Snoutlet. They turn around and try to call out⌠âGreat Conductor!! Great Conductor!!â
After a moment that was a few seconds too long, the Great Conductor suddenly appears. âHm? Yes, Snoutlet?â
âI found a letter!â Says Snoutlet. âIt says itâs for you.â They then move out of the way, allowing to see the handwritten letter that lay on the ground.
ââŚInterestingâŚâ Says the Great Conductor as he begins to read.
â˘â˘â˘
Hello, Great Conductor.
You could say Iâve been⌠oh, naughty, this year. Iâve done some bad stuff, I ainât gonna sugar coat it. I put these kids through some bad trouble, ticked off a bunch of people, especially this one dame from Merrygo⌠all because I just couldnât stand holiday clatter.
I thought being rid of their offerings meant no more holiday cheer for me to have to hear⌠but I stood corrected last night⌠it pained me to say it before, but I think my heartâs grown a good bit.
You ainât never needed any offerings. You only care about us being there for you⌠I canât help but consider that quite bold. Daring, for someone like me who always wanted a gift but couldnât have one. I could never wrap my head around the fact that those gifts were for you growing up.
Iâve grown a lot because of you. I wanted to thank you, and apologize for all the stuff I did⌠maybe soon I can get to everyone else I wronged and apologize to them too. Hope thisâll make it up to ya.
- Hermit
â˘â˘â˘
The Great Conductor couldnât help but lightly chuckle. ââŚHow nice of him.â He says.
âYou take his word for it?â Snoutlet asks.
âI believe I will⌠no wonder he had disappeared last night.â Says the Great Conductor. âHe had an epiphany.â
âIf you believe it, I believe it.â Says Snoutlet.
âThank you!!â Yells a voice from the bushesâŚ
The two look toward the bushes, but only see the faint and lanky silhouette of a man rushing away⌠they need not know who it was, for they already knew.
âŚThe Great Conductor was glad he could help Hermit come around and embrace true holiday cheer. Heâd be smiling right then⌠if he had a mouth.
The Dream Guardians meet IDLE!
