Things I Can't Live Without #5: The Ball on a Rope
Batman has developed a really nice play drive for balls. Balls on ropes. I like the ones with plastic T-tug handles, which let me get a good grip during our tug games without getting rope burns.
Our former working ball of choice was the EliteK9 2.5" yellow ball on T-tug. After a very lively email conversation with my beloved GSD people debating balls and ball washers (the washer inside the ball that secures it to the rope), I've made the switch to Bende balls.
Bende is a Hungarian dog equipment company, and you know those Hungarians make great balls! Their balls are solid rubber and harder than the hollow EliteK9 balls, which are soft enough for Batman to puncture and get a tooth stuck into.
I have high hopes for these Bende balls. They're tough to find in the States, but I located a supplier in PA called K9Guardian. The large (2.75") balls with 2' toggle are my favorite. I found that the 12" toggle is too short for chase games.
As you can see, the Bende ball is much more solidly built than the EliteK9 ball, which has warped into an elliptical shape after two weeks of use. One downside is that the Bende is heavier as result, but I don't mind. Batman loves these new balls, and they don't get stuck in his toofs!
