The campus library was especially quiet during the afternoon. Most had gone out to enjoy the sunny Californian weather, or had retreated to the privacy of their dorms to recover from one of the largest parties of the year. There were a few milling about, some overeager freshmen just learning the layout of the campus and a few fourth years who seemed to desperately wish the year over.

Owen considered himself an exception from either group. He still hadn't adjusted to the relatively intense heat of Malibu and found himself with very little to do since everyone else was on recovery mode. On top of that, most of his reading material had been left in some of the unpacked boxes in his room and he had no inclination to sort through them. It was an easier affair to raid the fictional section of the library instead.

He had a spot in one of the sunnier patches of the library, sinking into one of the well-worn seats with a pile of books placed haphazardly on the coffee table in front of him. The books he had chosen came from a whole range of different genres, since he couldn't think of a particular one that he had wanted to read. There were a few more ambitious volumes like the Lord of the Rings, as well as a number of other classic stories. There was even a copy of the Hunger Games somewhere, although he had read that particular series several times already.
