A sigh on the back of his mind was all Dragel could let out once the elevator’s emergency lights kicked in. Disruptions like this on the job wouldn’t be anything of note within a normal day, but this tiring day has proven anything but.
Serving as a proxy for one of their staff who had called in sick wasn’t the best decision he had made. While it’s true that there were no cargo landings today in the warehouse, it didn’t mean his effort could just be loaned to everybody in need, nor would he waste time driving around town looking for a far off hotel.
But the stoneheart cursed his manager for not thinking in that direction. And now he was stuck in the elevator for the the time being, awaiting its repair, with another person. Picking up a package shouldn’t have to be this tedious.
The question was then picked up by his ears, which made him turn to the stranger with an inquisitive look on his stony features.
“Dragel,” The tone he used to answer was somewhat dry and clear cut. He didn’t even bother to show her his staff identification. “And to answer that second question; package pickup.” And he was damn not above abandoning the package too if he had reasonable cause. “You?” He assumed she had something to do with the blackout, although he was still debating on it.
Kori supposed Dragel is a name, but it doesn’t tell her what Dragel is. Picking up a package would be a shithouse lie, so Kori decides to believe it. “Are you someone I can trust, Dragel?”
Dragel isn’t human, but Kori knows from experience that doesn’t necessarily make him her enemy. The trouble is, she’s hunting a demon and doesn’t have time to decide if Dragel is safe to turn her back on or not. Kori has been hunted herself too often to risk letting a monster get behind her.
“The thing is, Dragel,” Kori says, “there’s a demon in this building. It has the power to stop elevators. It also has the power to send us falling to our deaths. I’d like to get out of this elevator before it does that, but I need to be sure you won’t stab me in the back the second I take my eyes off you.”
