Power Procurement Reveals Gujarat's Peak Supply Strategy
GERC's latest order shows Power Procurement decisions differ sharply between normal and peak demand periods. GUVNL purchased 793 MW of round-the-clock supply for August 2026 at Rs 6.05-6.15 per kWh, while securing 800 MW for the March 2027 evening peak at Rs 9.96 per kWh. The selected suppliers include Adani Raipur, Greenko AP01, ACME Venus, ACME Sigma and other market participants. Although some bids for other months reached Rs 20 per kWh, they were not accepted. The pricing pattern indicates that Gujarat is prepared to pay higher rates for limited evening shortages while avoiding costly purchases where supply conditions are less constrained. The latest order highlights how Power Procurement increasingly depends on time-specific demand rather than average energy availability. EnergylineIndia.com tracks these developments.
