Approved Inter State Transmission System maintenance can narrow Northern Region import capability without proving shortage. Ishanagar interconnection work was assessed to reduce import ATC and TTC by 1,900 MW. Fatehpur-Sasaram work carried another 900 MW effect.

The 2,800 MW sum shows programme exposure, not simultaneous derating unless windows overlap. ATC and TTC measure the secure transfer envelope under assessed conditions. Lower capability means less import headroom, not automatic consumer curtailment.

News on power sector outages must also distinguish approval from execution. Ishanagar was scheduled for 7-9 September, subject to Western Region approval and Northern demand conditions. POWERGRID commissioned assets under the Bikaner-III Green Energy transmission project: three 1,500 MVA ICTs, two 500 MVA ICTs and associated lines and bays. Five renewable-connectivity bays cover 1,467 MW.

The connected list includes seven developers. TP Saurya had 190 MW ready for commissioning, while ACME’s 300 MW battery-storage project carried the same expected commercial-operation date of 22 August 2026. That date does not confirm COD.

DERC temporarily relaxed Delhi’s State electricity tariffs after June 2026 power-purchase costs exceeded the approved base. BRPL claimed FPPAS of 31.64%, BYPL 24.02% and TPDDL 23.71%.

The State electricity regulator did not accept full claims. Above the normal 10% billing-cycle ceiling, it permitted additional FPPAS of 7.94% for BRPL, 7.43% for BYPL and 8.50% for TPDDL. Total recoverable rates are 17.94%, 17.43% and 18.50%, respectively.

This prevents two errors. Using only additional rates understates the permitted surcharge, while using discom claims overstates the order. The State electricity tariffs decision applies for one month only from the 10 August order. Other regulatory provisions remain in force. Kerala’s Power regulator rejected KPUPL’s additional distribution licence request for the Perumbavoor industrial park. The 30-acre park had one consumer, Kaynes, requiring 2 MVA. KSERC found insufficient intermediary economy for a separate licensee.

KSEBL must provide 24-hour supply, so licence rejection does not remove incumbent service. The State electricity regulator distinguished the economics of another distribution layer from the duty to supply the premises.

Kaynes had been allotted 28 acres and proposed Rs 500 crore of investment, a 7.25 lakh sq ft facility and 1,600 jobs. An 11 kV dedicated underground feeder from KSEBL’s Rayonpuram substation was proposed, with internal distribution at the consumer’s cost. EnergylineIndia.com reviews the final order. The Power regulator did not foreclose a materially different future application. It rejected the present evidence. Any renewed case before the Power regulator needs a broader customer base and clear benefits. The Power regulator kept KSEBL responsible for immediate supply.

Punjab’s power-quality meter procurement re-entered the Latest power sector tenders after the High Court set aside the earlier process. PSPCL scheduled a fresh tender to open on 21 August 2026.

The new invitation does not complete the underlying obligation. PSERC kept the show-cause proceeding in Petition 46/2024 alive and allowed another six weeks. The record establishes invitation and bid opening, not evaluation, award, supply, installation or operation.

Power regulator assesses procurement and compliance separately. The earlier direction required a response to the Section 142 notice, complete data and firm procurement, installation and operating timelines. The 12 August 2026 Daily thermal power reports show NTPC exceeded its daily programme. Monitored stations produced 1,062.70 MU against 979.40 MU programmed, a surplus of 83.30 MU. Available capacity was 48,669.58 MW from 60,007.23 MW monitored.

Year-to-date performance remained below programme. From 1 April, generation reached 135,921.86 MU against 136,630.02 MU programmed, leaving a gap of 708.16 MU or 0.52%. The Southern Region was 2,634.12 MU ahead, but Northern, Western and Eastern stations remained below programme.

Karma Energy’s Q1 FY27 filing presents a mixed Renewable energy news outcome. Revenue from operations rose 4.8% to Rs 3.2037 crore from Rs 3.0582 crore. Total income moved lower to Rs 3.5905 crore from Rs 3.7732 crore.

Profit before tax fell to Rs 0.5045 crore from Rs 0.9004 crore, while profit after tax declined 27.6% to Rs 0.4406 crore from Rs 0.6081 crore.

The prior-year comparison included an exceptional item of Rs 0.8143 crore. It comprised interest on debtors written off previously and related interest. POWERGRID has commissioned several components of the Rajasthan Phase IV Part 1A Inter State Transmission System, but the transfer corridor remains incomplete. Four transformers totalling 4,000 MVA were charged during April and July 2026. The Bikaner line loop-in was charged in March.

The 682 circuit-kilometre Bikaner-III-Neemrana-II line drives the schedule. CEA anticipates April 2027 against the original December 2025 target. Recorded progress includes 905 tower foundations, 896 erections and 349.22 circuit kilometres of stringing.

Power Grid projects must be assessed component by component. Charged transformers create partial capability but not a completed corridor. EnergylineIndia.com explains this distinction. The Rs 4,741 crore Inter State Transmission System requires construction, stringing, testing and successful charging. The monitored date is indicative. The Inter State Transmission System should not be described as wholly unavailable, yet the unfinished line restricts full transfer capability. A seven-fold imbalance marked the Real-time electricity market India session on 12 August 2026. Purchase bids reached 31,225.5 MWh, while sell bids totalled 4,225 MWh. All 4,225 MWh cleared at the Rs 10,000/MWh price ceiling.

All offered energy found buyers. Not every purchase bid was served. Nor do uncovered bids prove involuntary consumer curtailment, because the evidence omits participant identities, bid conditions and follow-on procurement.

The RTM market in India also recorded a maximum block purchase demand of 2,000 MW against 300 MW of sell and cleared volume. Those MW snapshots cannot be added separately to daily MWh totals. GUVNL’s approved Short term power contract is designed around Gujarat’s morning and evening peaks between October 2026 and March 2027. The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission authorised quantities ranging from 490 MW to 1,200 MW.

Tariffs are Rs 9.97-9.98/kWh in October, Rs 9.98/kWh from November through February and Rs 9.99/kWh in March. Some offers initially priced at Rs 12.99/kWh were reduced to Rs 9.98/kWh during matching. The State electricity regulator approved the resulting portfolio before PPA execution.

This is not round-the-clock procurement. The Short term power contract supplies energy during specified blocks when renewable output may not cover demand. Each Short term power contract must be judged against actual stressed hours, scheduled energy and avoided emergency purchases. Haldia Energy recovered fixed charges in FY26, but its receivable build-up shows why Coal power projects cannot be assessed through plant availability alone. The station achieved 99% availability under a 25-year cost-plus agreement.

Trade debtors increased to Rs 2,939 crore from Rs 1,414 crore. Net regulatory assets stood at Rs 599 crore, while tariff true-ups were completed only through FY21. A direction to refund about Rs 263 crore remains under appeal. The rating review records the exposure, not the final decision.

Revenue reached Rs 2,113 crore and operating profit Rs 869 crore. Total debt to operating profit rose to 5.2 times. IRENA expects the global Solar modules fleet to grow rapidly, creating a delayed waste challenge. Capacity reached 2,383 GW at end-2025. Under the agency’s 1.5°C scenario, it must rise above 5 TW by 2030 and 18 TW by 2050.

Cumulative end-of-life panel weight could exceed 200 million tonnes by 2050. Annual waste could rise above 25 million tonnes, exceeding 21% of global electronic-waste weight. China, the European Union, India and the United States may each process over one million tonnes annually from 2043.

Most markets lack solar-specific end-of-life rules. Outside several developed markets, retired Solar modules enter landfill with other electronic waste. India has built a larger Solar modules manufacturing base, but localisation remains shallower further upstream. Parliamentary answers dated 30 June 2026 recorded 48,337 MW of solar production-linked incentive awards and Rs 73,400 crore of investment. Capacity created included about 42 GW of Solar modules, 12 GW of cells and 2 GW of ingot-wafer production, including 3.4 GW of integrated thin-film capacity.

Approved module capacity increased from about 22 GW in March 2023 to about 213 GW, while cell capacity stood near 32 GW. Listed ingot-wafer capacity was about 2 GW, and listed polysilicon capacity was zero. Renewable energy India manufacturing has expanded fastest at final assembly.

Awards do not establish commissioning or utilisation. Solar modules imports declined between FY22 and FY26, while exports increased over the period. Direct programme employment reached about 17,200. Coal Import for blending by domestic coal-based power plants declined from 23.9 million tonnes in FY24 to 6.8 million tonnes in FY26. Coal India also held 122.46 million tonnes of stock on 12 March 2026, supporting a larger domestic supply buffer. But the blending figure has a specific denominator. It does not cover every coal import, and imported-coal-based stations may continue using foreign fuel because of plant design and commercial requirements. Some domestic plants may also need imported blending coal for technical or operational reasons. Revised linkages and SHAKTI provisions seek to increase access to Domestic Coal, but the published data do not identify how much of the 17.1-million-tonne decline resulted from additional domestic dispatch versus inventory use, changing generation or lower blending requirements. The reduction therefore demonstrates lower import exposure in one important category, not complete substitution of imported coal across the power sector.

India's Coal Gasification programme combines approximately 22.6 million tonnes a year of operating or under-implementation capacity with a new Rs 37,500 crore scheme expected to support another 75 million tonnes. Only about 8 million tonnes is identified as already operating, while the remainder depends on projects under implementation or capacity expected from the newly approved scheme. The earlier Rs 8,500 crore programme has approved eight projects and earmarked Rs 6,233.06 crore of assistance, but reported disbursement stood at just Rs 235.52 crore. The government estimates the first eight projects could save about Rs 16,500 crore annually in foreign exchange after commissioning, but that remains an expected benefit rather than a realised saving. The decisive test is therefore commissioned plants producing marketable syngas-derived products, not the sum of approved and prospective capacity.

Adani Power Jharkhand supplied 9,131 MU to Bangladesh in FY26, according to the Ministry of Power's plant-level series, compared with 7,669 MU in FY25. The project has supplied Bangladesh exclusively since FY23. That contractual structure distinguishes its Power Export from the domestic allocation of electricity from central generating stations. India separately trades electricity with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar through bilateral arrangements and power exchanges. The Ministry's country-level table reports 8,362 MU of FY26 exports to Bangladesh, however, which does not reconcile directly with APJL's higher plant-level figure. The reporting boundaries therefore need to be kept separate. The central point is contractual: generation located in India can be dedicated to an overseas purchaser, and installed capacity at the plant does not by itself create a domestic allocation claim.
