As politicking for the 2023 general election hits up, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has hinted that all necessary measures to delete the controversial section 84(12) of the electoral act 2022 is being worked on with the relevant agencies. Recall that the contentious section which reads: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election,” has thrown political stakeholders into confusion, following a verdict by a Federal High Court which sat in Umuahia recently. State House Correspondents asked Malami to give an update on the implementation of the ruling by a federal high court in Umuahia, that ordered the attorney-general of the federation to delete section 84 (12) of the amended electoral act, to which he responded, “the process is still on”.
