At a first glance, the village of Godric’s Hollow was idyllic and quaint with its small cottages and a village square with only a church, a post office, a pub, and a handful of retail shops. It was one of the rare places where wizards lived alongside Muggles, forced to hide their magical abilities, their culture, their very nature on every single day of their life, and Gellert Grindelwald concluded that it may have been exactly due to the illusion of peace that the wizard families appeared to be utterly ignorant to the fact that they lived in complete oppression.

Indeed, were it not for the rumors of one of the Hallows being hidden in the village, Godric’s Hollow would have been one of the last places Gellert considered suitable for a temporary stay, though as he greeted his grand-aunt with a kiss on the cheek and a bright smile, no traces of his true thoughts could be found in Gellert’s countenance, and he required no more than a single hour to ensure that he had Bathilda Bagshot completely wrapped around his finger, that she believed that his expulsion had been nothing more than a tragic misunderstanding.

And so, she did not question him when he settled down in the garden and began to read and scribble down notes like one possessed, most likely believing him to be making up for the lessons he could no longer attend when in fact, Gellert was cataloging the results of the rather gruesome experiments that had been the reason for his expulsion.
