12. How do you keep your place in a book?

Bookmarks, usually, though if I have to put a book down in an emergency (like I’ve just dropped food in my lap or someone’s asked an urgent question), then I’ll prop it against something that’ll keep my place, or frantically try to remember the page number.

15. What’s a cover that fooled you?

This is not, in fact, a standard space-opera-y story, or as cheesy as “first contact in the Middle Ages” sounds. It’s much more thought-provoking and well-researched.

Seven book covers in seven days

Eifelheim by Michael Flynn! A medieval German priest, and his village, dealing with a crashed alien ship and its survivors. I loved it for how deeply Flynn explored the idea and for all the conversations where the priest is talking religious philosophy and the aliens are talking science and yet it makes sense. (There’s also some very cool science and a lot of tension, especially as the story continues.)
