I love Évelyne, but I recognise that she’s a human being who should be respected. Similarly, I love Delphine, but I recognise that she’s a complex character, and that’s what is so fascinating about Cophine: not the supposed purity or moral high ground, but the interaction of complicated motives and desires with powerful love. That’s exactly how it is in real life.

I’ve also gotten seriously pissed off by the elitism and clique-like behaviour of so many of the EHWs I’ve encountered. I entered the fandom during the run of S4 - does that mean I can never be a real fan? Do my friends who don’t ship Cophine not get to be legitimate fans of the show? All of this is turning me off my ship, and I hate it.

It’s a bit weird, to be honest, because they make up the group that produces the most Cophine content (fics, gifsets, photosets, etc.) in the fandom, and any Cophine shipper will encounter their work. But really, I’m not entirely sure I want to be associated with them anymore.

Of course, this is not to say that I disagree with all their views, nor are all the people I’m disentangling myself from actually EHWs/“Brochuddhists”. I am still very much a Cophine shipper, and I’m writing Cophine fic. I think it’s a lovely pairing and I’m glad there’s so much content surrounding it.

But I believe that it has been misinterpreted and mischaracterised (to some degree) by the EHW folk, and as these mistakes grow ever stronger and ever more influential, I think that I might need to divorce myself from supporting the EHWs and their followers.

I still don’t totally know how I feel about all this, though. It’s like I’m being pulled in multiple directions and I don’t know which one to lean towards.

Oh dear.

They’re “Évelyne Horny Worshippers”, and basically they’re obsessed with Évelyne Brochu to the point where they feel the need to satirise how obsessed they are. The name came from an antagonistic anon and they claimed it as their own.

Many of them take the stance (or appear to take the stance) that Delphine is a less morally ambiguous character than she is, and many of them dislike the Shay/Cosima pairing immensely.

Unfortunately, they’ve generated much of the good Cosima/Delphine content, and it’s hard to be a Cophine shipper (as I am) without interacting with them and their mock-veneration and mock-deification of Évelyne.
