I'm pairing these up together because yall are both so right. Our man Dan could have totally ignored the things he made his characters do in the beginning. The weird guys v girls jokes. The man-hating hammer. They were the beginning of his stips, could have just ignored it for the gag. But no! This man Doubles Down. He acknowledges what he did as lore. And he decided to be better for it.

Susan wasn't just hating men because they are terrible. She was hating them because her father's affair and her mother's comfort had skewed her worldview into generalizing and excusing the event due her dad as a man and not as a person.

Tedd could have stayed the hotdog horny pervert that dismisses the opinions of others in sexual remarks like "gay" or "lesbian". But not only did Dan have Tedd grow as a genderqueer icon who is actually into and open to trying out different kinks and identities, but also acknowledges that Tedd was wrong. Tedd didn't justify his actions before. He admitted calling Sarah as lesbian was dumb and in mean spirit so wanted to apologuize. Again! Perfect way to still justify the beginning of the series and provide character growth for them to go beyond that.

Also this guy has to be the many many queer awakenings for many many kids in the 2000s. Even if he was making shit up and not realizing what it means, he was still super respectful in how to present his "fictual" sexuality, and gave an incredible identifying character where someone can just look at Grace and be like "oh wow that's me"

every relationship and gender and sexual identity and awakening has been address and analyzed and we have made great and wonderful breakthroughts

My favorites are genderfluid Tedd, Demisexuals = superior Alien genders, and the demon duck being a bro. He is there putting all the work for us and might even one day take us to duck hell
