she arrives home a little over midnight. later than what was their deal, but morgan couldn't imagine going straight home after what happened. cold night air cleaned her lungs and mind, tears wiped until new ones formed —— again and again —— keeping her from going home —— because this is so embarassing, because it didn't just happen to her, because she wasn't in the mood to lie what REALLY happened. she walked until her nose was bright red, her eyes puffed from crying, her tired legs begging to sit.

a surprise kiss that means so much more.

It’s late and it’s only the two of them who stuck around to work well past the meeting and the others leaving for the night. He was asked to stay. Finish up the plans that they’d discussed. Give input on the few ideas he tossed back that lined up with Tony’s. Of course he would say yes. Denying Tony much of anything? He’s not sure he can do that. Not with the miles and miles of history between the two of them. So much that being let in? It means the world to him. More than he ever expresses. Or ever would. It’d just be too awkward to try.

Someone thought it would be hilarious. To hang some mistletoe in a place where Bucky doesn’t notice until he’s on his way out. Side by side with Tony who comes to an abrupt stop. The suddenness of it all has Bucky’s stops pausing in near unison. A confused look of bewilderment shoves his eyebrows together as he looks over at the man beside him. There’s a glint in Tony’s eyes. One that has Bucky squinting but curious as to----a finger is jutted upwards. Mistletoe.

He can’t be serious? Tony Stark---there’s a puff of laughter. Bucky doesn’t realize it was his. But Tony’s brows lift and Bucky realizes--he is. There’s something in his chest that suddenly bursts to life. Warm and tight in his throat. Yeah, okay. It’s a feeling that spreads up to his head. Makes him dizzy as he takes a step closer and forces himself to swallow. His touch comes feather light. Against the side of Tony’s jaw. Flesh and bone fingers brush over the soft stubble from a too long day. He can hear his pulse in his ears when he leans in and their lips meet. A sharp inhale through his nose and his fingers curl. (So do his toes--but Tony can’t see that.)

He should’ve pulled back by now but he doesn’t--instead he goes to but returns for more. And there’s nothing light about this kiss. Nothing at all. It’s a firm press of lips that nudges a sound from the back of his throat as lips part and that noise spills over into Tony’s mouth. 

SEEING  HIM  LIKE  THIS  was  not  how  he  imagined  their  reunion.     things  had  always  been  so  unspoken  but  ever  present  for  them.       never  any  move  to  act  on  their  feelings  ,  but  the  lingering  stares  at  lips  &  hugs  that  lasted just  a  little  too  long  ------------     but  tony  had  always  been  with  pepper.        &&  the  one  time  he  wasn’t  ,  the  accords  &  bucky  split  them  apart.           he  can’t  blame  tony  for  the  way  he  reacted  ------  it  had  gutted  steve  to  lie  to  him.          to  look  him  in  the  eye  &  say  he  cared  about  bucky  more  when  he  should  have  told  him  he  loved  him  &  that  he  was  sorry.           STUBBORN  TILL  THE  END.  

He’s kept his distance. A polite distance, certainly, a working distance: but after everything —— hell, he ain’t even sure where to begin.  

 He heard about Morgan through the grapevine, though —— hard not to, these days —— and yeah, he talked to Pepper a bit, felt out if visiting would even be a good idea. 

And hell, he doesn’t know if it is or not, but either way: here he is, stepping up on the step of the little lakeside cabin, a little gift bag in hand ( he hadn’t the slightest clue about what kind’ve gifts to bring for a baby, but the old lady at the shop he stopped in was astoundingly helpful ) — and gives a easy knock on the door, stifling that little tug of apprehension about how this will go. 

RUMMAGING THROUGH HER LUGGAGE, a crease forms in between her brows, she’s quite certain she’d set the device down near here a moment ago. ❝ If I don’t find my phone soon we’ll be late... The entire itinerary for this trip is on there. ❞ How could I be so careless? Pepper scolds herself and sighs, being out of the country on business doesn’t normally have her so frazzled. She bends further, digging deeper inside of her suitcase until her fingertips discover a familiar rectangular shape. ❝ Thank god. ❞ The strawberry blonde fishes it out and then gives her appearance the once over before leaving. She opted for something a little different, a dress that’s elegant and no less professional than her usual attire, but definitely striking in its own way. Paired with nude louis vuittons, she’s not hard to pick out from a crowd. 

Upon approaching Tony’s hotel door, she knocks to announce her presence and proceeds to enter. ❝ Please tell me you’re decent? ❞ There's slight sarcasm laced in her voice. It wouldn’t be the first time she’s accidentally walked in on her boss when he’s not dressed and she is sure it won’t be the last, but if she can avoid the situation, she will. Not that she finds him repulsive, he’s quite attractive, but those are dangerous thoughts to be thinking and she can’t afford such DISTRACTIONS. ❝ We’re expected to be at the Hôtel d’Evreux in thirty minutes. I've already arranged for our chauffeur to arrive in ten. ❞
