This is more of an uncanny valley thing than a glitch thing, but considering how Komani poured all this “money” into making eFootball 2022, including having a photogrammetry rig the size of an effing trailer to realistically portray players, the result is pretty glorious.
Personally, the last FIFA-style game I enjoyed came out in the N64 era and I even think Rocket League is a better soccer game than anything FIFA or Konami has put out in the last decade. That’s because there is a gulf between the realism of soccer and the meta-realism of video games that just can’t be bridged.
The rhythms of IRL soccer doesn’t translate to a 5 minute video game match unless you simplify the pace and mechanics, which is why Rocket League, Foosball tables, and futebol de botão are more satisfying games to play. They have unique but simple mechanics that expand in complexity as you learn how to play, which is exactly why IRL soccer is great, it’s a simple game to learn with an ever expanding complexity.
