These few lines from a short poem by Edward Thomas were evoked when my wife directed me to a patch of new flowering growth on Cowslip Lane this morning.
~
"TALL nettles cover up,
As they have done
These many springs,
The rusty harrow, the plough
Long worn out,
And the roller made of stone:
Only the elm butt
Tops the nettles now..."
~
Today I saw small nettles
Gentle violet glow
Leaves of muted green
Springtime Beauty Show
~
A little further on - Parsons Lane - were some primroses I planted last year:

Good Morning, can I join you?
First, I'd like to say -
I know my colour's deeper
But I should love to stay....
~
We may be slightly different
Yet no-one can deny
We're flowers! Things of beauty!
We grow... we bloom... we die...
~
You're very welcome, primrose
Before, we looked the same
But now there is a greater beauty -
