From the Ashes, A New Family?
Greed spoke to him and Pride tried to listen, he did. He was taught that if someone was talking to him he was supposed to pay attention and listen. It was hard. Everything hurt bad enough it was hard to focus on anything else, but being held was nice. One nice thing next to a river of bad things. Pride held on tighter and let out another sob.
A reason? He was sure the humans had one, he saw what the grey people Father had made and unleashed did to humans. Fighting against them, against Father, Pride understood why. It was to keep themselves safe. Even he fought against them, they attacked anyone who got close including him. He didn’t know Father enough to mourn him, outside of the other being his parent. It was his siblings that hurt the most. It hurt a lot when Lust died, it was even worse with all of them gone now.
What was the reason for all of them? He couldn’t think of any. Because they helped Father? They weren’t the ones devouring people and being loose int he streets. Becauce they were his children? For being homunculi? The more he tried to think about it the worse he felt. No idea came to him. Pride couldn’t think of a single thing his siblings had done to deserve being slaughtered. That the chimera had done to deserve being slaughtered. They didn’t do anything wrong, they never did anything Pride didn’t know humnas had already done. How come his family were the bad ones that had to die?
He curled up, trying to breathe, “………………..back……………want……………..them back………” he sobbed, “……………want……them back………….I want my brother!……………want them back!” under the crying he could hear his sibling’s voice telling him to stop crying. Under that, Pride could almost tell himself a second pair of arms were wrapped around him telling him it was okay to cry as much as he needed. If Greed wasn’t going to yell at him for it, he just wanted to cry until he was empty.
There was no way that Greed would tell him to stop, he knew this pain far more than Pride realized. “I know kid,” he comforted quietly. “I want ~him~ back too.” Him, the only ‘family’ he’d had... but he hadn’t been killed or taken away from him, no he had just vanished one day leaving Greed all on his own to figure things out. This sobbing mess he now tried to comfort had been him once upon a time not so long ago. Greed had wished he’d had someone to comfort him... wished someone had cared enough to come find him. But he wasn’t ‘Ed’, so none of them cared...
Pressing violet eyes shut, he forced that old pain down. It was ancient history now... and now, another world away. What he needed... what they both needed... was to start over. “Hey... hey k... Pride, listen to me for a sec...” Greed started. “I know it’s not the same but... since, well since neither one of us have anything or anyone left here... How ‘bout you stick with me? It’s not gonna be easy, but I wouldn’t mind havin’ ya around, especially ‘cause it doesn’t look like I’m goin’ anywhere any time soon...”
