Hello! ~ This is my first tutorial and it'll show you how to just simply edit. This tutorial is not set, so you can change the settings to whatever suits your picture. I used Photoshop CS5 for this tut and you can download CS2,3,4, and 5 here.
1. First, pick out a picture and prep it (crop it etc.) You don't have to save the picture you want, just copy your screen (ctrl + alt + prtsc) and paste it then crop it. I am using the picture below:
2. Go to Image » Adjustments » Curves. (You can use Auto Tone and Auto Contrast if you want, but they usually work best with pictures that are not dark nor light but in the middle)
3. When you get to Curves, make three points. One in the middle, top and bottom of the line. The top point will make the light parts of your picture lighter or darker depending on where you move it. This also applies to the bottom point (but the bottom point changes the dark parts) The middle point will change your whole picture, not just parts of it.
4. Go to Image » Adjustments » Levels (if you can't find it refer to step 2's pic)
5. When the Levels window pops up, you will see a total of five arrows. Levels will also lighten/darken your picture.
6. Go to Image » Adjustments » Brightness/Contrast (if you can't find it refer to step 2's pic)
7. In Brightness/Contrast, you change the contrast and brightness of your picture.
8. Go to Image » Adjustments » Vibrance (if you can't find it refer to step 2's pic)
9. Vibrance will change how colorful your picture is. Vibrance is like a less powerful version of saturation and goes easy on your picture. Saturation is more powerful and has more effect. I put no more than +10 saturation.
10. Go to Image » Adjustments » Hue/Saturation
11. In Hue/Saturation i only use the Lightness part, i don't use hue a lot and i already used saturation in vibrance. The lightness part is pretty self-explainable.
12. Go to Image » Adjustments » Color Balance
13. In Color Balance, i usually add more red, green and yellow. That option makes your picture more balanced.
14. Go to Image » Adjustments » Selective Color
15. Ahh, I love selective color. Selective Color changes the colors on your pic. You can choose which color you can adjust. If you want to adjust more than one color, don't click OK and just choose another color from the drop down. I usually add more cyan, magenta and yellow but less black to just start off and it adjusts the model's hair color (if you have a model in your picture)
16. Go to Filter » Sharpen » Sharpen (sharpening makes your picture look more HD)
17. Go to Layer » Flatten Image
19. Save your image as a PNG
