Edhellond - Elf Haven - Climate & Architecture
Far to the South in the narrow land between the mountains and the sea, Edhellond’s climate is that of a costal desert, with cool fog in the morning and dry heat during the day.
When mortal men begin settling near Edhellond in the Third Age, they never venture out early in the morning, for they have all heard tales of the wild creatures who live in the mists.
Unlike their kin in the hidden valley of Imladris, the elves of Edhellond are much more inclined to roam, trekking high into the mountains and taking their boats far up rivers and along the coast.
This leads to an amazingly diverse cuisine. All the food.
Living along two mountain rivers provides access to flora and fauna otherwise not common in the desert.
Similar to other elven architecture, the style of architecture in Edhellond is organic and inspired by nature.
Like their kin in Lothlorien, the elves of Edhellond build into their surroundings. Many structures are built into the cliffside or the tropical trees along the river.
Common materials are adobe, bamboo, and palm fronds. Because there is so little rain, most buildings are open to the outdoors and blend easily with their surroundings.
In canon, Edhellond was founded by refuges from Beleriand, possibly of Doriath who wanted to distance themselves from the Noldor. Their numbers were increased by adventurous Silvan elves who came over the mountains seeking the sea. Like Mithlond, Edhellond was an elven port from whence ships sailed into the West.

30 Day LOTRO screenshot challenge: Day 24 - Homeland
Moradriel hails from Edhellond. Much has changed since she lived there long ago. By the end of the Third Age, it's filled with some rather energetic and unsafe lads. Running around, chasing each other with their swords drawn. She assumes that's just what Men do though. The Avorrim have managed to clean the place up quite nicely though.

One of the saddest quests I’ve ever had to do. At least he got to look across the bay once more

Edhellond was an ancient harbor in southern Gondor. It had been established southwest of where the Ringló entered the Morthond near where the combined waters flowed into Cobas Haven.Edhellond was founded by Sindar before the end of the First Age, who had come there as refugees from Beleriand during Morgoth's ascendancy. At first the population of the haven was quite small since the refugees had come in just three small ships, but over time their numbers had been increased by Nandor who came down the Anduin. From Edhellond Elves began sailing westward from the time of the fall of Eregion (in S.A. 1697)Amroth, Prince of Lórien, was lost at sea near Edhellond in 1981 when he attempted to swim to shore to seek his beloved Nimrodel. The ship from which he jumped overboard was the last ship of Elves to leave from Edhellond, which was deserted from then on although remembered in the traditions of Men in Gondor.

Edhellond
Edhellond: 'Elf-havens' (Sind.) An ancient harbour of the Silvan Elves in the lee of Dol Amroth, on the coast of Belfalas. Throughout the Third Age, the tradition remained in Dol Amroth that Elves from Mirkwood and Lórien would ride the Great River from their Forests to the Sea, resting at Edhellond before taking ships into the West. (Folk said there was Elf-blood in the veins of the people of Amroth's Hill.)
