I present to you folks, the Broken Toys AU.

I thought of sharing this since @ninja-knox-ur-sox-off and @winterpower98 got me into Lego Monkie Kid with their art.

Considering no one really knows much about MK's situation involving his birth parents, here's one of my interpretations with this particular AU. There is hints of Yugioh in this but no knowledge of the series is needed! I'll fill in the necessary holes when it comes up.

A 9 year old MK whose out shopping for his parents comes across a peculiar item. It is a deck full of Duel Monsters cards, specifically the Frightfur Archetype.

(For those not accustomed to Yu-Gi-Oh, Frightfurs are a deck type that revolves around the concept of toys and have two sibling monsters called Edge Imps and Fluffals.

This is a Fluffal, Fluffal Leo for example.

This is a Edge Imp, Edge Imp Saw to be precise.

A Fluffal and Edge Imp fuse together to form Frightfurs which are the bosses of the deck! Demon possessed toys with incredible power, when Fluffal Leo fuses with Edge Imp Saw, it becomes Frightfur Leo!

These are the only Yu-Gi-Oh card Archetypes that will pop up! Now onto the AU itself.)

Thinking the cards are cool, MK takes them home with him. Each night he begins having dreams of the monsters coming to life and act like a family towards him. It didn't come apparent that there were more to these cards until his abusive parents decide to punish him one day.

The cards had come to life and protected him! MK has the power to bring these monsters and their respective magic into reality, something that he uses to leave his abusive home once and for all.

One day however, a 10 year old MK gets into an accident that leaves him horribly mangled. In order to save him, the Frightfurs had put him back together with their magic at the cost of accidentally turning MK into a Frightfur Type Toy Demon. To keep his monstrous form under wraps, his Monkey King Plush was converted into a housing vessel for his true form. However if MK becomes too stressed or angry, then his toy nature comes out to play.

Other ways for his toy nature to show is that he doesn't feel pain, visible injuries reveal cotton instead of blood or flesh, and MK has a habit of eating things like tools or cotton stuffing.

Rumors of a creepy kid with monsters following him spread throughout Megapolis but no one knows who it is until MK becomes the Monkie King's successor.

His relationship to the canon characters for this AU:

Pigsy: MK was found sleeping outside of Pigsy's Noodles one night and is taken by Pigsy. Their relationship is almost the same as in canon but Pigsy is more open about being his father figure and protective of MK. Knows about his Frightfur family and true form.

Tang: He meets MK during one of his visits to Pigsy's Noodles. Tang teaches the boy proper living skills and has enrolled in online school so he can have a proper education. A lot MK's Monkey King merch comes from Tang. Knows about MK's Frightfur family and true form.

Mei: They meet at the arcade when Mei was trying to win a plush dragon from a rigged crane machine. Mei is MK's best friend who indulges in trying any outfits he sews together and come to him to fix up any plushies or torn clothing. Knows about his Frightfur family but hasn't seen his true form just part of his toy nature.

Sandy: Encounters MK at the docks trying to sew together a few tarps. MK comes to Sandy very often whenever he's having a bit of bad day or needs to relax. Sandy has quite a few cat plushies and cat toys that the young man handmade for him and his cats. Has seen MK's Frightfur family but not his true form, only part of his toy nature.

Sun Wukong/Monkey King: Wukong knew there was something special about MK when he first arrived to his mountain. He was very concerned seeing all the stitches across the young man's body so he's a bit more careful and serious when it comes to training. Wukong often sends MK home after training with sewing materials or peaches. Knows about his Frightfur family but nothing about his toy nature or true form.

Red Son: Immediately knew there was some off about MK upon their first encounter. He was already wary of the boy when he summoned one of his Fluffals to fend off his family back at the mountain where DBK was sealed. Summoning Frightfur Chimera made Red Son begin an investigation on MK's origins and just what he exactly is. Knows about Frightfur family but not his true form or toy nature.

This MK will be known as Fright since this won't be the only LMK au I make with a drastic twist to the character. He's called Fright since he tends to scare others a whole lot. Fright is very kind like canon MK but is quick to anger or hold a grudge should someone takes advantage of his trust and emotions. He likes to sew, repair or make toys, costumes and clothing in his spare time.

MK's True Form

This is the Frightfur Vendor! Whenever MK's friends visit the sanctuary, they can use these vendors since the monsters inside can serve as a guide for their visit. Edge Imps are mischievous Fiends with decent amount of offensive power and are quite crafty. They may be few in number but are quite difficult to get rid of.

Before we get into the Edge Imps, I forgot to clarify some things. Frightfurs are powerful monsters which have a cost to pay should MK summon them without using the fusion method. Whenever MK summons a Frightfur without fusing them or using a card effect, it takes a chunk of his life energy.

Becoming a toy demon lowered the cost but it's a dangerous method should he overuse it. So don't expect him to spam Frightfurs every five seconds. MK will be summoning Fluffals and Edge Imps in battle first then fuse them. If any of his monster pals get defeated, they return to the Frightfur Sanctuary to recover.

Finally MK actually has a limit for how many monsters he can have out on the field. When he was human, he had a 5 monster limit but becoming a toy demon made that limit 7. Summoning too many monsters puts a strain on his mental health and could result in going berserk or passing out. I'll be going over the rest of MK's abilities on their own page.

Now that's out of the way, let's get to the monsters!

Returning Cutters: Edge Imp Sabres 'Capone'

The first Edge Imp MK summoned and his go to for starting a battle. Sabres boast a decent amount of attack power amongst their fellow Edge Imps only tied to their Chain and Scythe brethren. These shears are super stubborn since they don't go down easily without a single fight! By sending a card into standby, Sabres can come back from the grave for another round.

Capone is a Edge Imp Sabres whose handles are red instead of dark grey or black. He's a huge fan of past gangsters and antiheroes, especially Al Capone hence his name. This Edge Imp knows every underground information network that can be found in Megapolis and helps design disguises for Team Monkie Kid to use.

Sharp Gambler: Edge Imp Saw

'Nez'

An Edge Imp who MK uses to challenge the tide of a battle. Edge Imp Saws are the weakest in offensive power but have some decent defense to overcome such an issue. These living saw blades are just like their inanimate relatives, a chance between success or defeat. By sacrificing a Fluffal, Edge Imp Saws grant MK the chance to pull two cards from his deck pool. One card does have to go back but it can pay off should he get something helpful.

Nez is an Edge Imp Saw whose eyes are blue instead of magenta. Unlike most Saws, Nez is actually quite shy instead of extrovert. She prefers quiet places, sky gazing and listening to audiobooks. Nez is only threatening should someone make her mad, in that case she'll tear down any object in her path while she chases the nimrod responsible.

Supplying Matyr: Edge Imp Chain 'Wright'

A beefy Edge Imp MK can fall back on for needed tactical support. Chains are more defensive than most of their tool brethren, they can take a lot of hits but not dish out as much damage. However this particular species of Edge Imps are ones that opponents have to be careful with the most.

An attacking Chain can add another Chain for MK to use later and should this monster fall in battle, our Monkie Kid gains an instant boon with a free Frightfur type Trap or Spell for further applications.

Wright is a Edge Imp Chain whose smaller chains are red in color instead of gold. He's a bookworm with an immense thirst for knowledge. In fact, him, Tang and Warlock alongside a Fluffal named Alder often meet up to exchange information, debate or share book suggestions.

Frightful Imitation: Edge Imp Frightfuloid 'Krafty'

An unnerving ally MK can rely on during a disadvantageous fight. This type of Edge Imp are more mysterious as they share an aura similar to Frightfurs: a pseudo-Frightfur. Frightfuloids are truly dangerous when accompanied by a Frightfur. These mismatched dolls can copy the physical strengths of any on field Frightfur they pick.

Krafty is a Frightfuloid whose dog cap has two button eyes than one. An absolute gremlin who likes to cause harmless mischief to those around him. He is respectful towards his friends and doesn't perform any tricks related to their fears, treasured items or any triggers. Even a prankster must have some chivalry.

Painful Mimic: Edge Imp Tomahawk 'Cherokee'

A burly monster MK calls upon for a painful first move against opponents. Edge Imp Tomahawks are powerful Edge Imps that come second in offensive strength amongst the group. By sacrificing another Edge Imp, these living axes can take a chunk out of their opponents' life force or mimic the sacrificed Edge Imp if it came from the deck pool.

Cherokee is a Edge Imp Tomahawk whose has a obisidian bedrock axe that's apart of his mouth. He is a cultural historians that likes to study ancient cultures, ceremonies and tribal traditions of many different people or societies. Quite respective to the beliefs of others but only gets involved against it should his friends or family's lives are on the line.

Shielding Fusionist: Edge Imp Scythe 'Valor'

A monster MK often uses in dire situations. Edge Imp Scythes are equal to Saws in offensive power but have no capability to defend themselves. This issue is easily balanced by their powerful magic.

Edge Imp Scythes can fuse any Fluffals and Edge Imps that MK has on standby sacrificing themselves. A quick way to bring out a Frightfur for the more dangerous battles. These manta ray shaped monsters can even protect a Frightfur from harm while out of commission.

Valor is an Edge Imp Scythe with a red ribbon tied to one of her handles. She is quite protective and prefers a fair fight in any situation. MK easily trusts Valor when it comes to battling as the Scythe can easily analyze and find a solution when needed most.

Fusion Evangelist: Edge Imp Cotton Eater 'Egil'

General of the Edge Imps that MK summons for his most dangerous fights. Just like Frightfur Skull Meisters, Edge Imp Cotton Eaters are also Pendulum Monsters. They boast enough power that surpasses even a few Frightfurs and good defense to boot!

Cotton Eaters are winged supporters for Frightfurs and fellow Fusion allies. All fusion allies get a small boost in power when Cotton Eaters are in their magical or 'Pendulum State' and even grant MK an extra card to use should he create a Frightfur through Fusion! As a Monster, these imps use vengeful magic to do damage to opponents for each fallen Frightfur ally.

Egil is an Edge Imp Cotton Eater with a black halo on his back. He's quite friendly and laid-back when not in battle. Usually opts to float around watching the various toy monsters enjoy their day. However, Egil is a hardened veteran which shows when on the frontline. His bladed teeth cut down any foe with no mercy and he becomes rage incarnate should any Frightfurs fall.
