In reality it's more 10,000 years old but Jade looks twenty so you can imagine which one Smoke would gun for in average conversations.

With such a long lifespan, it’s very likely the Outworlders age differently. I mean, if Nitara claims to be a girl in Earthrealm’s prehistoric times,

Smoke: Just how long have you lived? Nitara: I was a girl when you Earthrealmers first mastered fire. 

and Sindel claims Edenians are touched by the divine that allow them live long

Smoke: Why do Edenians live so long? Sindel: We are touched by the divine, Tomas.

I would not be surprised if 10 000 years for Outworlder is considered as teenage or early adulthood. Though of course how fast Edenians mature is up to debate. For example, the earliest “timelines” never made me doubt in 10 000 years old Kitana’s maturity but within the alternative timeline, she came out as pretty spoiled and maybe even childishly naive at times, I think? While in the New Era, Kitana and Mileena are trained since childhood to fulfill their duties as princesses but the way Sindel is worrying/nagging their daughters about romantic and/or sexual relationship (for example being concerned about Johnny interest in Kitana) and the way Kitana is questioned as the commander of Outworld Army (albeit mainly by her enemy)

Reiko: You?! In command of Outworld's army? Kitana: It's a much better fit than you think, Reiko.

So, Edenians are basically humans that live super long and get some cool powers and stuff, right? But what if there were like, some very small things in which they are very, very different from us but you wouldn’t know unless you actually lived with one of them. It can be either biological or cultural

I wish there was more input on the Edenians in the new timeline. I also wish they were given their independence 😩. One thing I loved about the Midway continuity is how every character was given a basic insight on their goals in Mortal Kombat at least. This is one thing that the new timeline failed to do in respect to the new characters. To answer the question, here is my opinion on each Edenian:

My favourite Edenian is Tanya as she was the first female Mortal Kombat character, along with Sonya Blade, that caught my attention. When I played first MK game (MK 4), I was intrigued by this innocent looking Edenian who turns out to be working for Shinnok all along (as I would learn seven years after). Her diplomacy and will for self-preservation also caught my interest.

Kitana: I love Kitana as well. However, my problem is how she was handled in the new timeline. In my opinion, she is one of the characters NRS screwed over. Since infancy, she grew up believing Shao Kahn was her father only to find out that he wasn’t what she thought he was. To make things worse, he had requested that a clone be made to replace her if she dared defect from his side. She joins Raiden side, only to get killed by her mother. In MK 11, her past self is brought back due to Kronika’s time shenanigans. She defeats Shao Kahn and is reunited with Lui Kang...until Aftermath rears its ugly head.

Sindel gets resurrected by Shang Tsung, Fujin and Nightwolf, you’d expect a happy ending, right? Sike, her mother has been a moustache-twirling villainess all along and Kitana ends up being a slave. You know, I feel bad for her as she has been poorly written by incompetent writers. Hopefully, she’ll get a better fate in the reboot, if it does come.

I hate how flat her character arc in MK 11 fell and how her revenant could work with Kronika after knowing the latter was working with Shao Kahn. I’d also have preferred she ruled Edenia like in the old timeline, rather than becoming Kahn of Outworld but it is what it is.

Jade: also love her and her devotion to Kitana. I wish there was more we knew about her other than those two. Unfortunately, she got an upgrade from being Kitana’s bodyguard to being Kotal’s woman. Again, screw NRS.

Sindel: a loving mother and a tragic character in the old timeline...until NRS came and turned her into Shao Kahn 2.0. I’m no longer mad that she’s a villain, I don’t mind that, it’s how poorly the retcon was done that angers me. I’m not really a fan of her but she had an interesting story in the old timeline.

Mileena: a really tragic character in the NRS continuity. She’s not really my cup of tea but imagine being used by a tyrant as a replacement, wanting to take over the realm after said tyrant is dead only to be betrayed by those whom you thought you could trust. Amongst the ones you think you can trust, one is using you to gain independence for her realm, the other is hoping you die so he can reclaim his position as the son of Argus while the one who is really loyal to you is killed. To make things worse, you’re killed by a bug lady under the orders of Papa Smurf of Montezuma (who is no better than SK in my opinion). Man, I really feel bad for Mileena.

Rain: I don’t like him. Neither do I get the hype around him.

Ermac: I am not really a fan of him but I hate how NRS made him a perpetual jobber. This is an entity who defeated Sonya, Johnny, Jax, Kung Lao and Kitana who were being mindcontrolled by Onaga in the old timeline. RIP, fam.

When I started to shipping them: after MKX. Since I was never that fond of the whole Mileena/Baraka thing from Deception/Armageddon or the whole Rain/Tanya thing from MKX, I loved the flirtatious tone when Mileena refers to Tanya as her 'dearest' or when she stated that it would be a shame to lose her in her intros. So it was perfectly safe to ship them in my book.

My thoughts: I'm aware that neither Tanya or Mileena have the best reputations in the MK universe and that at some point one will backstab the other to fulfill each one plans in canon if necessary. But who cares?. I will ship them romantically forever.

What makes me happy about them: The fact that they're literally the Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn from MK. Plus, is kind of cute to see Mileena gushing for Tanya (and who can blame Mileena? MKX!Tanya with her Cleopatra's vibe is smoking hot in my book).

What makes me sad about them: The fact that at some point one will betray the other at some point. Is true that Tanya has the 'swindler/deceiver/I will do whatever it takes to save myself first' gimmick but Mileena also has betrayed and backstabbed people who was closer to her because they interefered in her plans (Baraka in Deception is the first example that to comes to mind in this regard).

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Nothing at all except when some fics depicts Mileena as a sex-crazed bitch for no real reason at all than to write cheap nsfw fics. I love nsfw content with my ships involved, but well done nsfw.

Things that I look for in a fanfic: When it comes to taleena, I'm not that picky. But I have a thing for fluffy Taleena content like when Mileena pampers and spoils Tanya for any reason or when Tanya insists to take care of an injured Mileena after a rough training session.

My wishlist: I don't have a wishlist for Taleena, sorry.

Who I'd be comfortable them ending up, if not each other: nobody. After MKX, I can't ship Mileena with another person that is not Tanya and viceversa.

My happily ever after them: With Mileena and Tanya beating the shit out of both Kotal and D'Vorah and ruling Outworld together as Kahnums.

003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:

How I feel about this character: After Kitana, Tanya is my second favorite character. What I love from her is that she can be a real scheming and a smarter female villain who will fool anyone she wants shamelessly under her innocent and cute appearance. I have a thing for smart villains like her.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Mileena, Mileena and Mileena only.

My umpopular opinion for this character: I think that Tanya (and Rain in a lesser extent) deserves more recognition as a MK villain. Plain and simple.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Since we have seen so little of Tanya, I kind of headcanon that she used to be friends with Jade and that at some point, she betrayed her for some reason and that is the reason why Jade hates Tanya's guts with passion. So, I dare say that I really love her rivalry with Jade because I sense sassiness from both sides.

One thing I wish would happen/happened with this character in canon: I'd love to see more Edenian stuff in general (not only Tanya's background). And that's why I wish that there was a pre-Mortal Kombat game set in Edenia/Outworld during Kahn's invasion of Edenia in the same fashion of Mythologies/Shaolin Monks. I sense that Tanya's point of view about the fall of Edenia would be the most interesting after Sindel's one.

Favorite friendship for this character: I think that the word friendship and Tanya can't be together in a sentence. So, I rather say 'associates' than friends. In that regard, I kind of liked her association with Rain (even if I don't ship them actually). It also can be seen as 'friends with benefits' too after seeing Tanya's MKX!ending

My crossover ship: No, I don't have a crossover ship for Tanya, because like I said before, I only ship her with Mileena and Mileena only.
