I had to sneak a photo of the altar and choir benches before services on Ash Wednesday. The church has been making some effort to restore the church to something closer to what it was when first built. Iâm not sure if it was that or a misguided effort to be humbler* which was behind the make-under of the altar, but Iâll be honest and say I rather miss the big gold cross.
*I say âmisguided effortâ because a church filled almost exclusively by the upper-middle class isnât fooling anyone. It is not a working class parish.

If you do not embrace your LGBT brothers and sisterâs in Christ, then as far as Iâm concerned you no longer get to call yourself a Christian. You have disregarded what is quite possibly His most important commandment to us and decide to discard a beautiful and wonderful part of Godâs creation.
And Iâm not okay with that. And Iâm tired of being the one asked to make all of the sacrifices to make the more closed minded members of our parish feel more comfortable.Â
I donât know how I would identify myself religiously right now, but right now, I donât think itâs Episcopal anymore. Iâm not even sure itâs Christian.
Jesus is among us like a flitting moth â will we notice his presence in the street-sleeper? He pierces the dark like a silent, streaking owl seeking food for hungry and defenseless nestlings. He will overturn this worldâs unjust foundations like badgers undermining a crooked wall. Like the batâs sonar, his call comes to each one uniquely â have we heard his urgent âcome and followâ?

On Friday most of the faculty of General Theological Seminary (a prestigious seminary of the Episcopal Church) declared a general strike.
Striking faculty demanded only a good faith meeting with GTS administrators.
GTS Dean Kurt Dunkle responded by *firing* them, insidiously interpreting their strike as an offer of resignation...
