Prompt One 2018
ECL310
When I was in grade three I remember my teacher reading to the class Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We sat in silence absorbing every word, it was fantastic!. The teacher read Roald’s next book Charlie and The Glass Elevator as well and it was also a big favourite. Years later I was lucky enough to be teaching my own grade 3 and 4′s when the Harry Potter series came out. Once again a class sat in silence absorbing very word as this time I read the novel to the grade.
For your reflection this week we would enjoy discovering your memories of being read to. Preferably this would come from your own classroom experiences, otherwise, it can be a reflection on what a parent read to you, or if that doesn’t fit, you can share what you would like to read to a class when you have the chance.
All of the ECL310 team look forward to sharing in this,
be creative, make a video, a Wordle, a sound recording, a cloze activity, anything you like!
And here is a youtube assisting us in promoting the importance of adults reading to ALL children!

Good luck!

Week 9
For my multimodal text I have chosen the extremely powerful ‘To This Day Project’ by Shane Koyczan.

This is an amazing example of using digital art and animation to add to a narrators impact when telling a story. The images serve as powerful exclamation marks on the narrators words to tell a truly impactful story.
This could be used in higher year levels as well as mature middle years levels to cover the difficult topic of bullying. This can then be used as inspiration for the students own creativity and using many different modes to express a story.

Week 7
It is extremely important that teachers and students be able to interact. A teacher must be able to support a student in many different ways in order to make sure a student can reach their full potential. One way of doing this is to have an open, online area of discussion for students to interact with each other but to also ask the teacher questions. Such thing exists in Edmodo, which is explained in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHtwgZEHzNs
It also offers teachers the ability to find resources from other teachers around the world that they find useful.
Another resource is the My Storybook website. This allows students to create a story book online with their own drawings and pre-existing stickers and items as well. This would help tremendously with developing narrative writing.

ECL310 Week 9
This week I chose to do my multimodal text being a Youtube video on respect made by grade 5 students. In this video students used film, their voices and physical actions to portray a story of bullying how to treat each other with respect. This would be my mentor text as I would be able to delve into the topic of respect and how to be a good person and what actions you shouldn’t do. Perhaps use this to demonstrate to the class, my expectations of their behaviour.

Week 7 Post
Two resources I have found that would greatly help improve the literacy skills using technology for Teachers is the app ‘Confer’, which allows teachers to organise their notes for students during reading conferences, You can further use this app by creating different folders such as writing or reading and then inside those folders create individual folders for each student.
The other resource I would suggest is the article that gives tips and pointers on how to teach English effectively to the class. It is called ‘10 Simple Strategies to Help Language Learners Succeed in the Classroom’ https://owlcation.com/academia/5-Easy-Strategies-to-Help-English-Language-Learners-Succeed-in-Your-Classroom
