(more…)

Crisis Communication Planning
I just completed my last assignment in Reputation Management Strategies with Tom Vizcarrondo and what a fantastic month it has been learning about Crisis Management and how to be proactive before a crisis hits. I have to say that my favorite assignment thus far was the Crisis Communication Plan Part 1 and Part 2 from weeks three and four of the class. I am sure Tom is probably thinking how was the most intense, all encompassing, and heavily graded assignment my favorite? Well the answer is simple it WAS intense, it WAS all encompassing in regards to the information and knowledge that was needed, the knowledge that Tom had help provide from the very beginning of the class. The last two weeks were a challenge and I am not going to lie I was panicking the entire time. However, after seeing my Part 1 grade of the Crisis Communications Plan, I felt relief wash over me. I realized that I had learned so much not only from this class, but also in a recent job opportunity at my temp agency: Office Team. During one of my assignments at Office Team, I was tasked with creating a 100-page interactive manual for ECIC (Early Childhood Investment Corporation.) The manual was spectacular and I received a lot of praise for my accomplishments and attention to detail. When the Crisis Communications Plan was sitting right in front of me, I could barely contain myself. I knew that I wanted to have the BEST assignment using not only the knowledge that I learned within the class on Crisis Management and Company Reputation but also all of the fun gadgets that I could add onto my final assignment that I gained through my time at ECIC.
I believe the knowledge that will be helpful to me as a public relations professional will be Crisis Management. Crisis Management sets the bar and provides a proactive plan that is not only useful during a crisis but also helps you think as a professional about how a message can and will come across your intended audience. The knowledge that I learned this month will be me look at identity, image, crisis, etc. from a different light, a professional’s light. I admit that sounds a little corny, but its true. Before this class, I never realized so much pre-planning went into reputation management and crisis management. The Crisis Communication’s book by Peter F. Anthonissen is like the bible of PR strategies and Crisis Management. It is not only saved on my laptop but also as a PDF in my iPhone. There was so much to learn about this month, and I really feel like I am leaving the class with a great understanding of Reputation Management Strategies.
