I think that in this scene of TLM 2, Eric was out of the room, behind the door. He was trying to let Ariel and Melody sharing a mother-daughter moment, but he was also obviously worried for his daughter, so he decided to spy behind the door (that's why he was entering the room right when Melody ran away).
BUT I also think that, despite him being desperate for the entire situation, when he heard THIS, he couldn't barely hold a giggle.

I love how Eric is in the center with such a determined expression and his arms crossed on his chest, I've never saw him in that pose in any of Disney official images that aren't from the movies, so it made me smile🥹

I think that, even in a modern AU, Eric would still be a pretty chill guy, so he probably wouldn’t understand long ahh arguments on socials. He would be like: “Why do people waste time arguing for hours with strangers on the other side of a screen about completely superfluous topics?”, and then he’d probably keep cuddling Ariel, while having the best moment of his life
