about the ecaa question: the maths section is quite unlike A levels or Step. The closest equivalent would be the Test of Mathematics for University Admission. Ultimately, the crux of the ecaa maths section (or any other admissions test) is not the difficulty per se (i.e whether it is set at O/A level standard). It is a more a test of fluency and speed, rather than accuracy and difficulty (which explains why they are multiple choice).
Ah, fabulous, thank you so much!!

Hi, international student here :) Is the maths section of the economics admission assessment similar to other tests? I mean like A-level exams or STEP? Just so I can practice
Helpful experts? I didn’t do A-levels or STEP, but from what I know + looking at the admissions assessment, I think it’d be largely similar to A-level maths (if not a bit easier? The content seems very similar to what’s covered in IB Maths SL), but not at all like STEP.

It seems like the ECAA was a deciding factor to whether or not applicants get an interview but then again isn't economics supposed to be one of the most competitive subjects? I found that Churchill has really good insight into the whole AA/Interview thing in their website as well.
Yes, economics is one of the most competitive subjects. It’s important to note that while we’ve been going on about how the AA factors into admissions decisions, it’s likely not standardised across the uni. Like everything else, different DoS’s/admissions tutors may give different weightings to different parts of the application based on what exactly they’re looking for/whether they need to make distinctions between similar applicants.
Thanks for the Churchill link -- not sure how much it applies to other colleges, but they’ve said HERE that “in deciding who to call to interview, we will only use performance in admissions assessments positively, not negatively, i.e. no one will be ruled out of interview by their performance in an admissions assessment, but applicants who perform strongly in an assessment, but who otherwise we were not planning to call to interview, may be invited.” Definitely interesting to note!
