Negotiation & Deal-Making
The sound of the class freaked me out a little to begin with. Negotiation and Deal-Making sounded like an intense, heavy work load class that would stress me out. Making my way into week four now, I have nothing but good things to say about my time throughout this course. After making my way through the last three weeks, I have learned a plethora of new information to help further my professional career in the entertainment industry. My favorite assignment of this month has been the research case presentation. It takes students deeper into finding out more about negotiation’s that have happened in the entertainment industry. This assignment was particularly my favorite because of the topic I got to write about. This assignment helped us develop our researching skills through the use of EBSCOHost and other research databases. Also, we got to take a deeper look into our negotiation styles and how each style communicates. We did this by taking a Buzzfeed test to help us figure out which type of communicator we are. This will help better our negotiations in the future in order to steer the conversation in a way best suited for the people we are communicating with. After the completion of this class, I will continue to use the skills I have learned in the future. I will apply these skill sets to my future classes throughout the remaining duration of my time here at Full Sail. In addition, I will take these skills beyond the classroom and use them in day to day conversation and negotiation. Whether it be personal or professional, what I have learned in this class will further myself in the industry and at home. In conclusion, I am looking forward to continuing my education over the next few months leading up to graduation and I can’t wait to see what is in store.
If you are interested in finding out more about which communication style you are, take the Buzzfeed quiz I did and find out!

Business and the environment
Article Here
Trevor Russel’s article says in incredible detail what I wish to say with this blog. Though the article itself is approaching its 20th birthday, it’s still fairly relevant, save for his praise of BP for acknowledging “ that the threat of global climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of coal and oil was serious enough to merit public attention and action” (Russel). But how could he have known that that company would end up causing one of the biggest climate related disasters in recent memory?
Russel brings about a point that many of the other articles don’t bring up, which is large businesses’ collective efforts to not take responsibility for their effect on the environment in the past. These efforts have culminated in claims that large companies “do not know whether burning fossil fuels causes global warming” (Russel). Today this is an easily disprovable statement, but perhaps 20 years ago it was not. It is hard for me to suspend disbelief and humor the notion that businesses didn’t understand their impact upon the environment. Russel himself effectively claims that these companies were merely coming up with excuses in order to not take the blame, and I think that if it weren’t for the clear scientific proof that they are the problem, these companies would likely still make outrageous claims like this today in order to shirk responsibility.
The article is specifically about the Kyoto protocol, which calls on all members of the UN to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The subject of the protocol makes it relevant to the point at hand, but the Kyoto protocol itself is currently not very relevant, so whether or not Russel’s article is still applicable to current day is up for debate, but I personally think it is, as it boils down to climate change, which is still very much a problem as displayed by numerous other articles in this blog.
