18. A memorable meal this year?I’m yelling this is the best question. I love people who have memorable meals in their lives. The most memorable meal for me this year was the zucchini blossoms that we got on a market in Merano in Südtirol. We got 10 blossoms for the unbeatable price of one whole euro!! We filled them with cheese, fried them and had them on some lovely fresh Spinatspätzle with just a little bit of olive oil. And to this day I cannot fucking believe that my boyfriend managed to cook that on a single gas cooker and with nothing but camping cuttlery. I knew he was a great cook but he really outdid himself there. Magic.

1. Song of the year?

Spotify informs me that it’s This is Where I Came In by the Bee Gees, which I have indeed been listening to quite a bit this year. If this is about songs released this year… uuhhhhhh…. I liked the combination of visuals, music & story in Janelle Monáe’s album film thing, so I’m gonna pick Make Me Feel.

5. TV show of the year?

If we allow TV shows that were (partially) released earlier than 2018 but that I only watched this year: The Good Place (I really loved the first season in particular). I didn’t watch a lot of shows that premiered in 2018, but I liked The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!

13. What time do you go to bed?Usually right now would be my bed time. I usually plan to be going to bed at 10pm but then it mostly ends up being 11 or 11:30 and then I need about an hour to fall asleep. I rarely stay up past midnight. I’m a terrible morning person as it is, it would get so much worse if I didn’t get a minimum of 8 hours sleep.

20. What was your last thought before you went to bed last night?That “Das Hexenhandy” really is a fucking superb Drei Fragezeichen episode and I should listen to it again which I then did! Also I just realised that the person who made up these questions probably thinks that “going to bed” and “falling asleep” are the same thing. Ooooh to live their life for just one night!

1. book you’ve reread the mosttimes? 

That wouldeither be the Harry Potter series since I’ve reread all of these books a lot, or someof the original Famous Five books by Enid Blyton—I really got into these booksin early elementary school and I must’ve reread my dad and uncle’s old editionsof them a lot. So that’s FF for elementary school and HP for middle/highschool, but since then I don’t think there’s a book that I’ve reread veryoften.

2. top 5 books of all time?

That’s difficult,so I’ll cheat a little.

Top 3, in no particular order:

TheHarry Potter series, since it meant so much to me as a child/adolescent

TheItalo Calvino books that I’ve read (Invisible Cities and If on a Winter’s Nighta Traveler) (even though I’m still really conflicted about Winter’s Night). Theway he plays with genres and novel structure is really cool.

BeckyChamber’s Wayfarers series (The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and A Closedand Common Orbit have been published so far). Scifi books that have superinteresting worldbuilding and focus on the people who inhabit this world* andhow they interact with the world and, especially, with each other? NICE (*theseworlds would be more accurate here)

Other contenders:

MeinUrgroßvater und ich (My Great Grandfather and I) by James Krüss. It’sreally lovely and Krüss obviously likes language and story-telling and I reallyneed to reread it.

TheSpeculative Grammarian Essential Guide to Linguistics (“the premier scholarlyjournal featuring research in the oft neglected field of satirical linguistics”).I got it before I enrolled at university (but when I was already very much intolinguistics), and it’s been getting funnier each semester.

Jeder stirbt für sich allein (Alone in Berlin orEvery Man Dies Alone) by Hans Fallada. (I think I’ve got to thank you forblogging about this book, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have noticed thisbook.) Boy, did this book make me cry!!! Also, I really liked Fallada’s writingstyle.
