When I was growing up in early 90s, Cakes automatically meant they had to be Santhas or Eastern Bakery. Out of the two , my favourite used to be the latter with their Pineapple drop cookies, Butter Cakes & Puff Pastries. My cousin till date gets goodies from the instiution which is probably 90 years old. After a long time I tasted both their butter as well as queen cakes. Queen cakes are like muffins with raisins & roasted cashews almost bread like in texture. What makes both their cakes is its unique flavor which I couldn't discern beyond vanilla . I then asked my cousin itself & he told me that the spice you would also find in restaurants as mouth fresheners . That is when it clicked , it was shahjeera aka caraway seeds with their distinct Anise like flavor. Apparently in olden days , it was a popular flavoring agent in confectionery which is uncommon now. So refreshing it was, I had it with some Bergamot flavored Earl Grey Tea from Cameron Highlands. #queencake #foodloose #caraway #easternbakery #thiruvananthapuram #kerala #highteaparty #earlgrey #bergamot #cameronhighlands #tea #malaysia #vegetarian (at Eastern Bakery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCQxJ7AlsVe/?igshid=1gp3xve9wfsda
