I had a light bulb moment as I was rewatching ep. 4 of Friend Zone, specifically the scene where Earth overhears the argument/break up between Sam and Pop. Sam breaks up with Pop because Pop was cheating, and apparently sleeping around with lots of guys. And that made me wonder if, in that moment, Earth made a connection to Stud and thought, "oh, maybe this is what dating Stud would be like. Don't want that :/" and clung onto this idealized version of Sam he's been building in his head even more.
@ctl-yuejie here! to add to the earthsam ask: i think they're really good together but we can see some tiffs between them already. It seems like when they got together Earth might have been putting Sam on a pedestal and maybe gone a little bit overboard with accommodating him. He's not a pushover but I think that he was so head-over heels for this gorgeous, nice and accomplished older guy he didn't even notice that he put his own needs after sam's. now he starts to voice the things he's not(1)
@ctl-yuejie here! ...happy with and this kind of disturbs the way Sam thought their relationships work. And instead of trying to change his way or talk about it he seemingly looks for certain spark in someone else instead of doing the tough thing and put in work into his relationship. (2)
Unfortunately, that is all also true. Earth put too much effort into making sure Sam was happy and comfortable and forgot himself, now that they’ve been together for so long, he is seeing the result of that and feeling neglected. Unfortunately, that will be the downfall of their relationship as it was. I don’t know if they will remain together after Sam cheats on Earth with Stud (knowing GMMTV, they probably will), but even if they do, it will not be the same thing. It’s sad really, because GMMTV really can’t write a healthy relationship to save their lives.
