Eddie and Maisie came face to face with their characters, when they were taken on aĀ behind the scenes tour of Aardman's Bristol studio.

Redmayne likens Aardmanās stop-motion studio to Willy Wonkaās chocolate factory. āItās the most extraordinary place,ā he says. ā[They have] all these stunning sets that are colorful and vibrant and lifelike, and yet theyāre miniscule. And then they have a whole area thatās just the charactersā mouths ā like hundreds of thousands of different versions of Dugās mouth with different expressions. ⦠But they also have this zone which is where the animators go up and get dressed up in huge caveman outfits and film themselves playing the characters, so they can then model from that.āĀ
Though his playful session with Williams was the only time Redmayne got deep into what heād describe as āresearchā into early man... āItās weirdly much more physical than I expected,ā he says. āBecause youāre trying to channel all of the characterās traits into just your voice, which, for me, meant that I sort of put my back out and do weird things with my arms.ā
