There’s only a little alcohol on his breath when he scales a school wall far past curfew, nearly slipping and falling to his doom twice along the way. There’s a chill in the night air that he doesn’t notice past the tingling of drink in his blood, not even through the tear in his shirt left behind by a particularly gnarly tangle of vines.
He swears loudly when he finally finds a window that isn’t locked against the night, the same way he swore loudly every time he came across one that was, tugging it open with one hand as the other clings to the edge of a chipped brick and a strong leaf of ivy. His climbing through the open window isn’t particularly graceful, his stomach dragging against its edge, the open pane beginning to come down across his lean torso. He all but tumbles in, falling over a desk and knocking over a pile of important-looking papers as his hands barely stop him from face-planting against the floor.
Another string of foul words spills from his lips as he stands, tossing unruly fringe out of his eyes and carelessly pushing his clothes more or less back into place. It’s only then that he hears the vaguely familiar clearing of a baritone throat and he looks up, greeting Kay with a crooked smile atop the heaving breaths, a result of his strenuous efforts to stay alive and upright only moments before.
“Hello, poppet,” he announces himself with a grand flourish of his arms.
“Remember me? I’ve come to rescue you from your tower, o tragic damsel. But first,” he declares, silencing any potential retort from Kay with a raised finger before slipping past him with a casual pat on his shoulder, “I’ve got to take a piss.”
It’s not that Kay couldn’t stand to have a roommate, it’s just that attacks at three in the morning, isn’t something most people would be keen about. So having the counselor keeping tabs on his situation, they have assigned him to another room.
So, all those ‘fun’ memories with the ever so lovely Edward has gone to the drain. He wouldn’t say that they were close, their roommate life has been nothing but a short encounter, and it’s a waste, truly, they would have been really close friends by now
But Kay wakes up in the middle of the night with a voice swearing in such familiarity. “What the fuck” he says under his breath, pushing himself up to see whoever has gone to cut his sleep. With nothing but short boxers on, he clears his throat to see that it’s nobody but Edward, face plant on the face.
He looks at him, crossing his arms. “You look stupid” he comments, finding his manners long gone once Kay starts seeing him as a friend. He disregards his nickname and laughs, amused at his friend, no matter what. He sits down against his bed before nodding. “Go ahead, you know where to go anyway” he says, reserving the other questions for later.
