Caption on Flickr: “Milwaukee Road E9A 37C shoves a scoot southward through Rondout in July, 1975. As of July 10, 2010, the tower still stands, and is manned 24/7. There have been some changes, though. The Soo Line took over the Milwaukee Road and painted the tower, including the brickwork, an awful tan; the EJ&E eliminated its double track crossing, and CN eliminated the EJ&E, but one train a day, a switch run, usually comes through; Metra has taken over the commuter service and MP36POS units have all but eliminated the F40Cs and F40PHs which in turn eliminated the E units; Rondout has been eliminated as a station stop and the brick platforms have been blacktopped over; the train order signals of both the Milwaukee road and the EJ&E are gone; the three headed signal in the distance has been replaced by a signal bridge; another three headed signal sprouted up just to the right of the tower stairs; the concrete silo in the distance is gone; and the parking lot is now full of big silver boxes and other clutter, ruining most of the shots. But, a bike path has resulted in a foot bridge over the tracks, making possible shots straight down on the tracks.”
Updated: “Since I wrote the caption, the passenger platform has been completely removed.”
