Bike Computer vs Smartphone to Track Ride Performance

Again, the casual riders all begin with what they can leverage without spending an extra dime. We've all been there and done that. And that same principle applies to the day when you felt the urge to measure how good a rider you've become.

Some folks resort to a smartphone with a free GPS application (e.g. Strava), while some others splurge on a bike computer that links a string of sensors together to read cadence, heart rate, speed and distance.

I recall using one of these speed box on my stem, and there sits my gels, smartphone and the Strava application. Dead simple to install, I have mounted mine on my stem, just below my saddle. The adrenaline to perform whenever I sit on the saddle (Strava puts my performance up to the world wide web, including audiences who can be rather competitive) has just become real, as you taste the fresh concept of what a competition entails.
